In school working part time. Busy life, but always understood that In life I shouldn't just get things handed to me
And Oh smehh, I wanted you to say that you loved your career in the marketing/graphic design field
![]()
I have been thinking about fashion marketing.....well study marketing in general because if the whole fashion thing doesn't work out, I got a marketing degree.........but I was think graphic design as a minor
Job security is something I definetly worry about in the future, thats why I'm pondering so hard at what to study. But like you said one step at a time...you want to stay in the business or move onto something else?
It is tough to juggle both school and work, so I commend you (Y)
Oh sorry, I wasn't not clear before. It is my job (where I work, the field, etc), not marketing or graphic design, that makes me want to move on with my career. I don't feel my current job let's me utilize my full potential, skills and passions. With the economy still being shitty it is tough to find a new job. I would like to continue working in the Adveritising/Marketing field, but maybe more on the Branding side (perhaps in fashion) b/c that's what I have a MS in.
Are you in HS or college right now? ![]()

Agree, another advantageunderstanding of each other is so underrated - and so needed in todays world. I love open-minded people, you can learn a hell lot from them.
Pinky, do you know anything about Mel? She dissapeared so suddenly!
I am not sure it this true for other countries, but I feel b/c the USA is such a individualist country some people are not that interested in learning about other cultures and races. It is the mentality of "as long as I am doing fine, why should I care about others!?" As a result there are a lot of micro-aggression, invalid assumptions and ignorance.
I know Mel sometimes gets busy with her job so that could be a reason why she has been away. Or she could be on holiday. She sometimes take nice long holidays. I hope she will be back soon b/c I miss her too! ![]()

I am considering doing something in fashion but it is easier said than done. Lots of minor stuff and details I need to take care of before I can jump right in.
Having skills in both Marketing and Graphic Design will definitely help you regardless of what specific field you would like to get into ![]()

She already wrote me, so my heart is at peace againBut why, one would asume that with USA being so multicultural and multiracial, the tolerance would be higher? Or does this apply only for the big cities?
That's great! Glad she is well ![]()
That's part of my point, it is assumed that b/c the US is multicultural and multiracial prejudice and discrimination barely exist. Don't get me wrong, people are more open-minded and accepting of other races, cultures, and etc. than they were 10 yrs ago especially in larger cities w/ high diversity percentages. However people do still do and say subtle and indirect things, whether intentional or not, that convey discrimination and prejudice.
For example, something that happened at work today. This doctor wanted someone from my department to take pictures at this event. We weren't able to do it b/c our camera was off-site. "Luckily" the doctor was able to borrow a camera from one of the Japanese attendees. Here is what he emailed one of co-workers: "I was able to find a camera. Not surprising, one of our Japanese attendees had a camera ." I am sure the doctor did not mean any harm but it does not excuse the fact the comment was inappropriate and racist ![]()

Glad you got my point and respected it.I was shocked that I didn't make any action,I was shopping at 2 or 3 shops and wasn't ready to go back and look for it,buy my brother rested me and looked then found it near the car door.
The date isn't set yet,my fiance is my relative,so we know each other from when we were children, but didn't get closer until just 4 months ago.
It not uncommon for relatives to fall in love/marry each other b/c of similar background and values. There is also a compatibility factor ![]()

It´s racist because he called him Japanese? I´m sorry Pinky, I think I´m missing the point here ![]()
Or is it related with the fact that Japanese tourists always have loads of cameras with them? Was it some kind of internal joke? ![]()

The stereotype is based on, Japanese tourists always have huge cameras with them everywhere they go. It was the assumption that b/c he's Japanese he would obviously have a camera with him that made the comment inappropriate. Sure, there is some truth to every stereotype but it does not applying to everyone within that certain group so it is ignorant to assume so.

Well, breaking into someone´s house and having a camera with you isn´t the same, I suppose? There are stereotypes in every culture, but not all of them must be taken so seriously. When we (my friends and I) visit our other friends that are foreign, we often make jokes of each other and of the stereotypes that every country has.
There are even stereotypes that apply to a certain area of my country - my friends from East call me "paštikárka" (something like "rillets" - it´s a word used for describing someone who comes from big city, and it´s originally meant to be unpleasant) and I call them CP-čkári or Vyhodňáre (another unpleasant word, describes someone that comes from the East) and we are all cool with that. I guess the tone counts too - if someone wants to be unpleasant, it doesn´t really matter what he will say, even beautiful words can turn into poison, and vice versa - even harsh words can be told with softness and love.
I think there are just some situations and words in our lives we should take less seriously and with more fun... but I got to understand that Americans are mostly very touchy about this racist subject - maybe exactly because of what Pinkie has written. I was once talking to Joe about this issue and he told me the same - that Americans, despite their multiracial country and backround, and maybe exactly because of that, are extremely touchy when it goes to this "race" subject.
Sometimes I feel like the Alice in Wonderland, staring at the monitor and asking myself "Did I just miss something?". Even the whole nonsense with the "token black girl". It´s just out of my world. When I look at models, I don´t see races. I just see women, beautiful or not. I don´t care if "some" company doesn´t have a "black" girl in it´s presentation - they don´t have redhead either, asian either, and, the most importantly, they don´t have many other beautiful girls I would like them to have
so I simply don´t care, because the girls are here, they are on runway, in editorials, I can find them if I want, they are present. It didn´t even occur to me that VS is obliged to have a girl of every race from this world. I mean - that sounds really stupid, doesn´t it?
I just wish people would stop pulling other people in boxes with colours. Or races. Why just not appreciate the differences between us, and make fun of them in that nice and kind way that can be accepted? And not point at each other - for whatever reason it is.

^ I hear you and respect your points
I can only speak from my experience and the different cultures I have lived in. Unfortunately [American] society is not capable, whether consciously or not, of looking past racial and cultural differences. I don't expect you to agree or understand my points b/c we live in different countries, cultures, and we from are different racial background. For that reason, it is difficult for me to convey fully the extend of how cultural and racial tensions affects people in a diverse society.
