While he would have recieved my vote for CY Young, I don't see a big deal in his being snubbed for it. Besides, relievers already get an award.

um no, they dont get an important award, so lets not pretend its the same thing. because it aint. no one cares about the delivery man of the year award blah blah blah.
i'm so sick of mo getting snubbed over and over again. it wouldnt be such a big deal if eric gagne hadnt won the NL cy young in 2003. now it just pisses me off that mo has finished 3rd in the voting three times, and this year finished second. he's never gonna get recognized during his career it seems. how utterly disgusting.
i do feel there should be an equivalent for relievers. something that is held in high esteem like the cy young. maybe they will eventually come up with one. i propose it be named the Mariano Rivera Award. thats the only way justice will be served

The "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Year Award" (a terrible name) is given to the best reliver in baseball, I think that's important. MLB just does not market the reliever of the year award like they do with the MVP and CY Young. If sometime in the future they changed the name to the Mariano Rivera Award like you suggested, then probably people would see it to be just as important as the CY Young.

to the first point, i stand by my comment. remember, i was the one who posted the article when he won the award, but if it were considered on the same level of MVP or cy young, i think it would be presented as such and it isnt. also, since gagne won the cy young in 2003, clearly a reliever CAN get it, even though these people are understandably reluctant to give it out to relievers.
to the second point, yes i know people know this. now give the man a damn cy young award already and i'll shut up.
edit: also back to the first point, i think the shitty title of the award eliminates any legitimacy the thing might have...also isnt it given out before the postseason is over? idk...all of it just adds up to it not meaning as much in people's eyes.

OS, Gagne set history that year. Did not blow a save in that WHOLE YEAR!!! He had 55 saves chances that year, and he saved EACH GAME!!!
