^Back on unicorns again then..?
1. This is MY thread ![]()

^I agree, I'm still learning now - currently attempting Japanese, and have just had a crash-course in musical theatre! However, I remember arguing with a professor once about the relative merits of professional versus non-professional people and their "worth" to society. Whilst it's certainly true all should be respected on a personal basis, I (and this was my argument) would rather have a medical doctor clean my windows than a window cleaner operate on me.
I always say that some professions DO need serious studying - medicine is one of the most important of these. That is logical. But to study "management" (e.g.) for five years? Wtf?
I also think that this society needs all professions - doctors, singers, actors, painters, bakers, masons, builders... we should not look down on any of it. All should be valued the same... I´m just saying title is not everything and it doesn´t automatically mean wisdom, experience or intelligence.

Uhmm guys, I didn't mean this seriously![]()
I was dying to see a 1,000 word essay on this subject,
I like to read anything that Lay writes ![]()

I can see his face while telling him this
you misunderstood me. He knows pretty much about dieting, exercising and burning fat, he just doesn´t care anymore
and loves beer... I love beer too...
he eats a lot and still has no problem to lose weight quickly (two or three kg in one week). Used to weight 67kg, but his dream was to weight 90
he gave up when he could not get over 83
now he eats normally, exercises when he has time, and does kapap. And I love his belly
Oh, I see
Don´t know what to reply, because mostly I absolutely agree with you on this... one thing that springs to my mind is, that I have a dentist who is also a painterbut at least one thing is good about education here - the pressure on schools for languages. There are at least two foreign languages in the elementary school (and nowadays even in nurseries, English or German is being taught) and two or three in high school... and many, many language schools with certificates, with lots of languages from English to Chinese.
Sometimes I do that too but mostly I try to focus on the book (which is hard when I started reading other five )
That sounds good
The thing with languages is that it seems to be harder to learn them when you're older. These opportunities were not really available to me earlier in my life:(
With books- I tend to have pressing questions or problems... and I used multiple texts as research material. The material on the internet is just not good enough..
It´s harder, that´s right... but not impossible. I´m fighting my Spanish - contrary to how easy was it to learn English when I was much younger ![]()

^Absolutely - I've met plenty of 'professionals' who are complete arses personally. But they do know their field. That's the only point I was making.I also think that this society needs all professions - doctors, singers, actors, painters, bakers, masons, builders... we should not look down on any of it. Oh, and J.Scott Campbell - stop making me perve on 2D drawings! ![]()

Jennka, about unicorns (
) something I wanted to write earlier but forgot. A few weeks ago I went to the National Museum, and there was this huge collections of religion-related art... anyway, there was this, hmm, forgot how it is called... it was not a painting because it wasn't flat but it wasn't a statue either... whatever
and it showed Holy Mary with a unicorn. The descripiton under this piece of art said unicorn symbolizes Jesus and virginal things.... Honestly though, that did not look like a pretty unicorn at all. More like a hybrid of a goat and a dog :|

Funny you mention this... because in his books, Beagle describes unicorns as "no longer the careless color of sea foam, but rather the colour of snow falling on a moonlight night" and he continues - "But her eyes were still clear and unwearied, and she still moved like a shadow on the sea. She did not look anything like a horned horse, as unicorns are often pictures, being smaller and cloven-hoofed, and possessing that oldest, wildest grace that horses have never had, that deer have only in a shy, thin imitation and goats in dancing mockery. Her neck was long and slender, making her head seem smaller than it was, and the mane that fell almost to the middle of her back was as soft as dandelion fluff and as fine as cirrus. She had pointed ears and thin legs, with feathers of white hair at the ankles; and the long horn above her eyes shone and shivered with its own seashell light even in the deppest midnight. She had killed dragons with it, and healed a king whose poisoned wound would not close, and knocked down ripe chestnuts for bear cubs."
Interesting, isn´t it ![]()

Heey! Don´t judge before you read it. It´s my heart thing.
really wonderful book. You really have never heard about it before?
The whole book, rather than about unicorns, speaks about human nature - it´s grieve for immortality, happiness, symbols... and the most fascinating character from the whole book, King Haggard, the saddest, most cruel, unhappiest person whose only joy is watching his captured unicorns and their immortality in the sea... and on the other hand, his weird love for them. I don´t often feel sorry for bad characters in books - he was the exception.
Oh, sorry for ranting so much about the book. It´s my love - I have read it dozen times and can still go on reading it and finding something new there. I was searching for it for 2 years, because they don´t sell it here in Slovakia (at least did not when I needed it), and my father bought it for me on Christmass without me knowing - he got it right from New York from his friend there. For another year the book travelled with me everywhere
now I have it on Kindle, so the original can stay more unharmed in the book shelve ![]()
I know it´s silly.
but I don´t care ![]()

^Nor should you care. And no need to apologise either - you know I'm only being ornery (and in that I don't really mean it!Heey! Don´t judge before you read it. It´s my heart thing.really wonderful book. You really have never heard about it before?

You haven't converted me to the cult of the unicorn yet though. But maybe, in an attempt at rapprochement, this'll be my Hallowe'en costume:
