You "guess"? So you find "guessing" is sufficient enough for passing your negative judgement on a country with over 308 million people? Well, I guess you don't need my response since you have your handy stereotypes, but I'll just answer anyway. Plus as much time as I've spent defending places I've never been, I might as well speak on behalf of my own country...

1. Playboy girls can't be merely narrowed down to American bleach blondes with fake boobs. Not only has this look been the staple for a relatively small percentage of the company history (and I was show this by a woman who's a big fan, not a man and she also happens to be European...), but several other countries also have their own separate publication. On top of that, they are not limited to playboy models, but tons of actresses, athletes, singers and yes even some fashion models such as Cindy Crawford, Lara Stone (European Playboy) and Lily Cole (European Playboy) have posed for the magazine. Baywatch also showed in over 140 countries around the world, so its popularity was definitely widespread.

You do realize that you're actually just CONFIRMING the stereotype with this "argument" don't you ?? First you're saying that Playboy has a lot of diversity in their models, yet when people who are not Playboy addicts think of the playboy this image comes up of blonde girls with big tits. So for some reason or not, even though the blond girls might be a smaller percentage, they seem to be more pronounced and remembered by the general reading group over there.

Secondly you state that there are also other versions of playboy (OUTSIDE the united states) which feature fashion models and such like. Isn't it kind of telling that you have all these examples of playboy's for the european audience which features fashions models while in the american version this is more exceptional then the rule. And I don't really care to find out in which playboy Cindy Crawford featured but blonde and large breasts....she pretty much falls in with that stereotype

2. The magazine's popularity has declined during the internet age. This is most likely because with the ability to look at naked women for free on the internet, there is less of a need to be seen buying the magazine in public or have them sent to one's house. So with it being no longer the primary means of seeing famous naked women without being seen at an adult film store, the magazine's popularity wend down. That said, monopolizing the desire to see famous nude women outside of porn in no way indicates whether the women therein were all the men's ideal woman or not.

Nor does it in any way disprove the claim. Seemingly when done from a commercial point of view marketing wise it seemed like big american companies thought blond women with big tits were the most effective marketing instrument.

3. America is so large and diverse that the support of only a relatively small percentage of the population is actually necessary to have great success EVEN if said thing is hated by a larger percentage it wouldn't matter. There are so many Americans that even to have 10% of Americans is almost like having all of Canada. That doesn't mean that that percentage represents Americans. Of course that 10% is only a random example.

True....but did you think of the opposite inclination of this argument ??? That if only 10% likes (as an example) the blondes with big tits....then why is there no market for the other 90%, which as you said happens to be quite large. Once again, this is more a confirmation of the stereotype then the other way around.

4. American women (who are the majority here of course) have their own ideals and tastes in women, which further speaks to the credibility of "guessing" what represents American tastes based on the fact that Pamela Anderson and some like her happen to be popular here. Busty blondes also happen to be popular in a large percentage of the world outside of America.

That some other countries happen to have the same liking does nothing to diminsh the american media fixation on women with larger breasts

5. Even aside from any of this, its extremely rude to not only label an entire country as having "horrendous tastes" but to pin down one type as representing them in the process.

Being rude or not is not a determinant in explaining if it might be true or not

6. The truth is, America has too many people and too much diversity for one thing to represent the ideal of all. The whole ideology of reducing the tastes of a mass population to the least sommon denominator is rooted in marketing. Advertisers endlessly seek to homogenize the general public for the sole purpose of enhancing their marketing strategies. For example, "20 million Americans prefer this" (small percentage btw) often comes from a survey of thousands and sometimes hundreds. From those few, formulas are used to determine how many people they represent. So its all about maximizing advertising dollars. That said, the least common denominator doesn't speak to ideals, only likes of a small sample.

But companies need a foundation on which to base their marketing. They're not just going to put something on the market on hope of getting a succes. It would be too risky for them to start with such a loose ground. Since companies have economic interest in appealing to so much people as possible, they'll make sure this is done.

7. Over here (with the increasing emphasis on looks in TV, film and music), celebrities are actually more popular for their looks now than playboy women. I'd be willing to bet that if you asked most Americans to choose 1 famous person as their ideal or closest to it looks wise they would name a celebrity before a playboy model.

You forget I wasn't the one who first named a playboy model. Needed to correct you on that. Seemingly when others heard the combination "blonde women with big tits" it immediatly conjured up an image of playboy. Just goes to show how that image is viewed internationally outside of the united states. And you're right...they won't only select playboy models. Maybe they'll choose people like Tricia Helfer, Hayden Pannetiere, Lindsay Lohan (blonde seemingly), Kayle Cuoco, Jessica Simpson, Kristen Bell, Heidi Montag, Anna Faris as someone like that.

8. I happen to not like Pamela Anderson, don't like the Girls Next Door and don't read the magazine either (though from what I've been shown, don't find the pre 90s ones to be that bad or as artificial and bland as the modern ones), but those that do aren't beneath me by any means nor are they beneath you.

"Beauty" is in the eye of the beholder

9. I wasn't even originally referring to a "type" of woman, only saying that the looks of some American women are appreciated more abroad than at home whereas others are appreciated more at home than abroad. I was also not really as much referring to the whole population, but BZ specifically.

I think the people at BZ might have a slightly different view on women then the general population so taking a survey here would certainly not give the same results as when compared to the general population. First of all, we know more models then the general population and secondly the fact that we're on this forum also defines us to a certain taste since porn or other trashy images and models are generally frowned upon here (as proven to the fact the first "who has the best booty" thread got deleted for that sole reason

10. Ironically when some said you should be banned because of your rudeness and insults, I said that you should be given another chance and that maybe she's misunderstood. This could be the case, or maybe I just have horrendous taste. I am American after all .

Ironically talking about rude.....playing on the person itself is what I would find rather rude.

All in all I have to say I agree with your point that my comment was a gross over-simplification in that I shouldn't deem all Americans to be the same with a certain stereotype. Millions of people will certainly have varied tastes and approvals.

On the other hand though I surely will maintain that even though it's a stereotype there are grounds to the stereotype. Be it rightly so or not, the american media does seem to embrace the image of the blond girl with slightly larger then average breasts. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure that even though all people are different, there is a large part of the population who agrees with this image created by the media.

I think that the strong sexual vibes given off may tend to de-individualize these women and thus make it easier. This desire should be separate from the celebration of womanly beauty.

Personally, I think that very large bust or buttocks tend distort the figure of most women (not all..) in a negative way ie. coco austin looks very bad imho..

but women like diora baird- with the right bone structure- tall, wide chest, athletic, bell shaped torso etc. can pull it off well. But these ladies are in the small minority.
