Porn has been and always will be an open translation of acts already in society, hence a niche for everyone.

Well, nobody is denying it, but, it makes it look like some acts are more widely practiced than they really are.

But in that same vein guys having a beer bragging about conquests, give each other ideas. All of these things are already circulating , and porn is the literal transference of it.

For example, snuff films. Nothing is more disgusting and deplorable than that... but if you study the history of it... it's been around LONG before porn, as a modern medium, came about.

Anal. Anal has been depicted in ancient art, literature, and even in religious artifacts. It's obviously a lot more common than people perceive it to be.

Now, if you want to argue that these are all early makings of porn and hence should be treated as such, given it's influence, then fine, but take into account that many of these things weren't considered porn. Sexual acts depicting sodomy, bestiality, and the like, were never considered gratuitous and were merely telling the story of that centuries sexuality.

Porn, in our modern age, is just that: It's the virtual equivalent of a picture painted on a cave wall.

not really my thing, BUT i feel it is a free country, and there our those that enjoy it, and its their choice to watch it, those who constantly bash & berate someone for their tastes, are usually closeting some odd fetish or kinky shite themselves, and like Ana said, porn goes back as far back as anicent Egypt, and im sure if we dug deep enough, even further, so to each their own, as LONG as its not child or Snuff films

I don't know about little miss sunshine, but i feel like annaBBfan is either totally missing my point or is arguing just to argue. Why are you guys bringing up ancient Egypt, Medieval times and cave drawings of a guy screwing a ram?

Whats next, you gonna tell me that in ancient Greece, older men were educating young boys on how to be real men, and on their free time they were having sex with them. And that was actually encouraged and considered an honor. So you mean there were homosexuals before gay porn came out? OMG I dint know...

You are bringing up all these examples, like i am trying to say, that a few decades ago, porn came on the market and really showed people what those weird looking things between the legs were used for. Yeah, I understand that people have always been having sex. Yeah I understand that some of those acts were even more messed up than anything i could think of today. That is not my point.

And LMS, i am not saying that porn is evil, or whatever, what are you talking about with the whole "BUT i feel it is a free country, and there our those that enjoy it, and its their choice to watch it, those who constantly bash & berate someone for their tastes, are usually closeting some odd fetish or kinky shite themselves"

Where am I bashing someone or judging someone for their taste? Show me.

I watch porn myself. I wasn't bashing porn or people who watch it, or saying that its the root of all evil. I was just saying that for some people, it might change the way they see things and their expectations.

Whoa slow down cowboy, my comment wasn't directed at anyone, merely stating a point, being. Raised in a highly religionious environment and people will throw judgments left and right, all I was saying it is a persons right to. Watch whatever the hell they want to, when they want to, and when history was brought up, its merely saying its been around forever, and only really came out of the proverbial closet during the early 20th century

I'm not even arguing. Chill out.

I'm using the example that visual stimulation, since the beginning of time, hasn't been a tool of influence but a mirror of the sexual culture.

Calm down, I'm not attacking you or your opinion.

How is that an answer?

I understand that you think porn often times warps people's perception of sex: "might change the way they see things and their expectations".

What I'm saying is that I disagree, and I gave my reasoning... how did you not follow my line of logic?

Ana, I think the appropriate reply to his well thought and eloquently said reply would be to simply say "whatever". Some people just want to argue for the hell of it.

Okay, I admit I only skimmed the argument going on here, so forgive me if I've misconstrued anything, but I would definitely disagree with the idea that porn "hasn't been a tool of influence but a mirror of the sexual culture." In terms of modern pornography, we're talking about an industry that makes as much as $4 billion a year in the US. No industry makes that much money by mirroring what's most prevalent in society. Porn doesn't reflect what we're all doing in bed - that wouldn't sell. It reflects what we fantasize doing in bed. Fantasy sells. Ask Hollywood. Most porn makes money by pushing the sexual envelope just enough to be enticing to viewers without being off-putting, and I think it's inevitable that the more of these fantasies we consume, the more socially acceptable the acts portrayed become, and the more that happens, the more we integrate what we see in porn into our own sexual lives, and the further porn will then have to go to continue selling, thus continuing a cycle of influence. I feel quite okay in saying things like oral sex (performed on either gender), anal, threesomes, etc. would be a lot less common in society today if it weren't for porn - especially because I once saw a History Channel program on the history of sex saying so.

DUDE i watched those as well, VERY VERY VERY intresting, and in truth its true, we all put to much into magazines, TV, movies, same with porn, it can sometimes warpe how we think, making us THINK we need those toys, 3-somes, etc, or we're a "boring" person or couple, that we dont have a good "sex" life if we dont watch & learn. there is nothing wrong with watching if thats your desire, and you have the fredom to so so, but again people NOW have a high expections of what they THINK should happen in the bedroom, and can sometimes be let down when it doesnt play like we see on TV. Min is right though, the movies we see are playing out what alot of us see in our heads, making us quite kinky & imaginative race.

With that said, sometimes the down side is, we get addicted, and arent statisfed with what our 'mate' can provide us, we've become a very voyuristic society, and sometimes we have so much at our disposal, we forget to be ourselves and DO what we used to enjoy. just plain good ole fashioned tension filled sex with the person of our chosing. And for all posting here, this isnt passing judgement on anyone, or berating anyone, i feel we all have to freedom to chose what we watch, read, or do!

That is what i was trying to say. All I was saying that people look at sex differently when they watch porn.

I saw that too, and a lot of my argument comes from their specials and personal research, and the like.

Oh History Channel! If you only knew that your shows would cause discord on a fashion/model based forum online.

Well yeah, but what you were saying, is that all the acts like anal, oral etc, have been around well before the porn industry. But i never said that porn industry created them.
