I have a weird laugh, apparentlyPowerhouse. You get good nicknames!
Most of mine involve my surname, so I guess are less exciting.

(N.B. Surprising as it may seem, my surname is not really Bull.
![]()
)
How did you get the nickname "Laffy"?
Plus, it's short for Laffy Taffy and, well, you know...
Most people call me Laffs, though.
Honestly, more people call me Laffy or Laffs than they do Portia.
Even some teacher pick it up

Btw, Berno, I think your nickname is hollabackgirl13

Eeeeew. Girl business.
Speaking of the "first time" however, though it is out of my comfort zone, I have a story that is much too funny to keep silent about. An aquaintance of mine, of what sort I shall not disclose and to how I came about this knowledge I shall stay silent as well, happen to, upon her first period, I suppose if that's what they are called, be getting ready for her evening shower when she recognized a little brown stain in her undergarments the size of a Canadian dollar coin. Being born in January, she was the oldest girl in the class and so the knowlegde of the human menstrual cycle had been limitted to the one or two conversations with her mother and to the briefings in gym class. She did not recognize it right away but instead, half a second after seeing the stain, shouted at the top of her lungs with her little sister, father, brother, and her brother's friends in the audible range this exact sentence: "MOM! I POOED MY PANTS!"

To match your weird accent and pronunciations.

Is it good being associated with that song? ![]()
It's often funny how nicknames are coined and how they spread. I love it when someone really unlikely uses someone's nickname, like teachers, grandparents or whoever. Simple pleasures.
![]()
Laffy's not a bad one.
I don't think that I've ever met a Portia before.
![]()

Not all the time.My sisters gave me a really bad nickname when i was younger, it made me really upset.
![]()
I'm not saying it though :|
If it's any consolation one of my friends kept calling me Stephen (as in Merchant) for a spell. I really don't look like him
but I suppose that I can see the link
: I'm friends with a chap who looks alot like Ricky Gervais, I am tall and my eyes looked really kind of beady when I put this odd pair of glasses on as a joke a while back. :| Not impressed, especially as he told a load of my old friends that I now look like Stephen Merchant before I returned home for a reunion of sorts. ![]()

I'm pretty sure that I don't look like a "big, lanky, goggle-eyed freak" (The Office). :| He is the only one who says it, after all.
![]()
So what did they call you then?
What's the gist of it?

"big, lanky, goggle-eyed freak"
Forgive me,I've had wine and this just tickled me!
P...where goes you & your fine P I P-ing skillz?! ![]()
:brows: ![]()

i can haz more laffy art?

Piledriver, powerhouse?? :| OMG!
![]()
do you like Lily Allen?

Do you use a normal ball?I prefer normal football; I can't use my size as much in 5-a-side.
I'm a bit of a 'bully' on the football pitch.
![]()
I much prefer centre-back, one has a better view of the pitch and it's a little more exciting. Full back is a bit of fun though, especially when you get to attack. Do you still play regularly now then?
Hey, Bully-Boy!
Being a bit of a 'toff' and all that - I was wondering if you ever play a few chukkas of polo?
Of course, being a Baron, with a 'Stately Pile' back in Blighty and being Argentine - it's practically part of my DNA... <_<

Alas, I've never played polo.
I'm only a little bit 'toff'-like really.
I did dabble with fives a bit during my formative years though.
Are you an expat then? ![]()

HAHAHA Puberty is funnyBtw, Berno, I think your nickname is hollabackgirl13![]()

Do you know what they're talking about when they tell her to shake her laffy taffy?
They're not speaking of her ass... :|
Yeah, I'm the only Portia that I know, too

As a matter of fact I do.Piledriver, powerhouse?? :| OMG!![]()
do you like Lily Allen?
listen to her's (even though the subject matter is morbid, the songs are so happy sounding
)

:| . . . To be honest, I didn't really listen to the lyrics that closely. I just assumed that it was a generic hip hop song with nonsense lyrics.
That's rather unfortunate.
![]()
Poor you.
On another note, they don't sell taffy over here. I had it by accident when I was holidaying in the US and wasn't impressed.
Over here "Taffy" is a nickname for a Welshman.
Some Welshmen don't like being called Taffy, so you have to be careful with it. People used to call me Taffy because I'm part (a quarter) Welsh and I have a rather Welsh surname.
I'm English born and bread though really. ![]()
Portia's a nice name,
even though you do get slightly rinsed by Kanye West. ![]()

^No, but my dear Ma is British. She's from Portsmouth though, don't think a lot of polo goes on there!!!
I've lived there on and off over the years, and it's nice to read a bit more of a familiar 'turn of phrase'...
And my dear Laffy, I'm pretty unversed with the delights of 'taffy' too - we have similar stuff I guess, but they're all pretty bland.
And I went and listened to that song. How very vulgar :yuckky: !!!

Have you ever had Laffy Taffy, though? The candy? It's delightful

Poor me, for sure
The things people say to me...
Taffy is really good, imo. It's hell for braces, but I eat it anyway
Toffee (toff) is a common nickname and so is Taffy?
Am I noticing a trend here?
omg you gotta watch this!
i lol'ed for like 5 mins

^Yeah - "Sorry about that"!!!

I don't imagine that you appreciate the song references much.
I wouldn't have twigged had you not alerted me to the presence of the song and then led me through its meaning; I'm much too naive.
![]()
After being tricked into eating saltwater taffy and, of course, following your revelations, I don't really have any desire to sample laffy taffy any more. ![]()
You have braces? Apparently I have perfect teeth
. . . for a Brit at least.
I don't really have much faith in my dentist though, as a dental exam by him consists of him running his index finger along the front of one's teeth, then running it behind and exclaiming "no holes!".
I attend a Univeristy that his son wants to attend though so last time I got the consultation for free - win!
The exciting life that I lead.

Not all British slang and nicknames follow the "t-blank-double f-optional blank" format.
Oh my, I was with a lady doctor today who had the most incredible accent. Her accent was part-Irish, part-South African, and it was amazing.
It must be like a Berno-Laffy hybrid :| ; would that be a Lerno or a Baffy accent then? ![]()

No, I don't imagine that there's too much polo being playing around Portsmouth.
I used to live near a very good ground and seen a couple of good-quality matches purely by chance.
Did you stay in Portsmouth when you lived in England?
What's it like living down on the River Plate? Quite different from England one would imagine! Good steak for a start. ![]()
Enjoyed the "baron" post in the movie subforum, by the way. (Y)

Baffy!
