^I haven't seen it. I was a fan of the source material too (although more of an Asterix boy really), but I didn't like the cartoon adaptions at all. So, I was in two minds when it came out, but the animation a la The Polar Express sort of pushed me into not going...

I reckon I'll give the dvd a try. If you liked his derring-do though I'd recommend the books - although racial/national stereotypes are in abundance! I liked his quizzical zeal too, and for that reason my favourite was The Castafiore Emerald which kind of read like a book with that other famous Belgian: Hercule Poirot!

What don't you like about that style of animation? I never saw The Polar Express, but I did hear it said (possibly by your good self) that the characters had a certain creepy dead-behind-the-eyes look to them.. is that why? I gotta say there wasn't any of that with Tintin at all though - I really can't speak of it highly enough

^Behati is Harley Quinn, and don't you forget it!

Touché! I never saw it before, but she's a spit of the comic version.. it's that devious grin <_<

I was actually thinking of the Arkham City version of Harley with Tanya

^In that - yes, very Tanya! You'll have to forgive my ignorance in the realms of computer gaming...

^That might well have been me! Are you familiar with the 'uncanny valley'? I think it was that about The Polar Express that I didn't like. The CLU version of Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy too.

I guess as Tintin isn't strictly replicating human behaviour/likeness it won't cause the same sort of effect?

^Yeah, maybe it's because the characters are a little more stylised. Or maybe it's just because Weta Digital are the only ones who know how to do it right

Best of both worlds - you can blink at a piece of toast for that last one instead of the wall

Hey Don, I trust all's well?

As a fellow fan of the PS3's Uncharted series, I was wondering what you thought about the rumours of a movie being in the works? I saw a suggestion online that in preparation for the film, the developers made a few subtle changes to Nathan and Sulley's faces for the third game, with the intention of making them look like Gerard Butler and Kevin Spacey.

^Hmm, I doubt that's true - I think the point of locking in actors is a fair way away yet, and would have been much more so at the point of them doing the character modelling <_<

I can't say I really see the likeness tweaks anyway. So subtle that they needn't have bothered

Beyond that though - Spacey as Sulley.. yeah, maybe. But Gerard Butler? I don't see him as Nathan Drake at all. Besides everything else, he's a bit old isn't he? There's been a lot of murmuring fan support for Nathan Fillion to take the part, who's apparently said himself that he's keen for it. I reckon him ten years ago would have been perfect for it. He's got the look, the charisma and the rascally sense of humour. Alas, I fear he's too old now too. And as I saw someone else suggest, they're probably looking to turn it into a movie franchise if it's successful too - in which case age becomes even more of a factor.

It'll all go to shit if they don't nail those two characters and their relationship though - otherwise it'll just turn into another lifeless and forgettable action adventure film. The track record of video game movies is not good.. it's amazing they keep trying. But we can hope

I've always had something of an irrational hatred for Mr. Butler, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it isn't true. Reading the rumour while in the middle of playing the third game may have set me off looking for things that probably weren't there, but I did think Nathan looked considerably older than in the previous titles - his nose a little more prominent and his mouth slightly wider. Could just be a case of the mind playing tricks - beforehand, I actually thought the character Talbot looked more like Butler than Nathan did.

Didn't we already upload Gerard Butler into a computer game and then make him run around in circles and into walls a lot?

Oh geez, I don't really know. She didn't bring me here as such, but one of my first model fixations was with Danielle Atkin - one of the The Price is Right girls

She had me watching that show every day for a while..

But I dunno, I've gone through phases of following lots. I guess some of the main ones that got me hooked in were VS girls like Gisele, Adriana and Marisa, and SI girls like Josie, Yamila and Elsa <_<

What about you?

I'm not really bothered about him one way or another. Although he seems less dickish when he's actually playing a Scot

Can you think of any video game movies that were actually good? The first Resident Evil was okay.. (although Milla made it worth the price of admission alone). I quite liked Silent Hill actually. It's not a long list though.

A Bioshock movie would be amazing if they did it right

If we're discounting the numerous 'so bad it's funny' video game movies, then it is indeed a short list. I tend to agree on Resident Evil and would probably throw in Prince of Persia as another reasonably decent effort. Maybe Final Fantasy too, though I'm not sure how faithful it was to the original material. None are classics by any stretch of the imagination, but substantial improvements over standard video game fare.

If it retained some of the substance of the original story, I'd love to see a Bioshock adaptation. I've rarely come across a game that hooked me as much, and that was mostly down to the narrative. Always thought Jak & Daxter's epic story arc would make a good animated tale too.

^Yes, it really did happen - and I couldn't tell you as I couldn't bring myself to see it!

I know what you mean about him Michael*. He seems to be another one of those guys (re: Matthew McConaughey, Ryan Reynolds) that Hollywood thinks has a nice body and is 'marketable' and therefore decided we have to like - and so they'll shove them in any old shit, with Aniston or Hudson et al, until something sticks...

^Super Mario Bros? The original and the best! user_16407_CKYF6CNPjpg.gif

Actually, I didn't mind Silent Hill either - visually at least. I mean, I'm not a gamer so I had ZERO idea what the fuck was going on but aesthetically it was eerie and the effects looked good.

Prince of Persia was good huh? I never got around to seeing that.. or playing the most recent game come to think of it. But the previous Sands of Time trilogy were tops (Y). Might have to make an effort to see that soon.

Actually I'd love to see a Dead Space movie too - and not that cheapo animated film they already released

Or a Mass Effect game. That would be incredibly ambitious, but incredibly epic if someone gave it the love it deserves.
