donbot! What's it like there in the future? 2012, eh? Got a jet-pack yet?

I saw Wall-E yesterday - when talking about future, oh
but it was a wonderful story... still having his "Eva?" in my ears ![]()

sooo precious
I even cried ![]()

Never mind, it's here now too - and it's TERRIFYING!!!

Where are our jetpacks already? Hoverboards? Hovercars?
Hasn't the message sunken into the boffins by now that human beings want to hover?? ![]()

Great movie. No one does it quite like Pixar ![]()

Do you like it too? Even my fl loved it, lol, like, he was even touched by it
that doesn´t happen very often, mind you. I just loved how they didn´t need any words to express their feelings ![]()

What trick is there to it?
^No trickery, just crazy science! :Dinah:

I have a copy of the 'Tintin' movie. Haven't watched it, but skimming through it..I can tell that it's good stuff..based on one of the books. I read the comics avidly when I was a little kid-
Cigars of the Pharaoh (1934) · The Blue Lotus (1936) · The Black Island (1938) · King Ottokar's Sceptre (1939) · The Crab with the Golden Claws (1941) · The Shooting Star (1942) · The Secret of the Unicorn (1943) · Red Rackham's Treasure (1944) · The Seven Crystal Balls (1948) · Prisoners of the Sun (1949) · Land of Black Gold (1950) ·
I remember that the early ones were the best.
^Awesome
Let me know what you think of the movie once you watch it - I'd be interested how it rates with a fan of the original stuff. I haven't read any myself, or seen any of the cartoons either, and really had no idea what to expect going in. I hope that it was faithful to the characters and spirit of the source material, because I really enjoyed it.
I saw it the other day in 3D, and it really was one of the best cinematic experiences I've had for a while. The animation is absolutely stunning, and it's just a really fantastic, fun action adventure. There are some really high energy action sequences, as well as a great cast that brings together some more tender character moments and a good mix of humour thrown in. I really like how they treated the 3D too - not in your face or gimmicky at all, but it just drew you in more and added to the grand scale of the film.

It's been ages..I read every single Tintin comic when I was 10-12 years old.
Yeah, the sequence with the bird, flood, and the motorcycle, right? It's a gorgeous piece of work- I really like the artistic choices they made. I have a Tintin CAM so I didn't want to really watch the whole thing. I'd say that it captures the spirit of 'Tintin' and Captain Haddock pretty well.
Tintin is utterly relentless, utterly fearless, and silently fanatical.... in his search for the truth. That's the unifying theme in all the books.

Do you know what kidn of principle is there?

And yet he looks such a quiet and unassuming fellow <_<
Yeah, that scene in particular was a standout. You really should check it out on the big screen if you get the chance though - you won't be disappointed ![]()

Not really. I know it uses superconductivity, and the guy talks about 'quantum locking' too.. but I have no idea. Goes somewhat beyond my high school science knowledge ![]()
New love! Tanya Dziahileva ![]()
This picture makes me think she'd make an awesome Harley Quinn ![]()

^Quantum levitation?!?!Where are our jetpacks already? Hoverboards? Hovercars?Hasn't the message sunken into the boffins by now that human beings want to hover??
Does it work on water though? ![]()

Anything that contains quantum is crazy enough to work... though this superconductivity seems interesting - I´ve found this on the issue:
http://teachers.web.cern.ch/teachers/archi...onductivity.htm
What is superconductivity?Superconductivity is a phenomenon observed in several metals and ceramic materials. When these materials are cooled to temperatures ranging from near absolute zero ( 0 degrees Kelvin, -273 degrees Celsius) to liquid nitrogen temperatures ( 77 K, -196 C), their electrical resistance drops with a jump down to zero.
The cooling of the materials is achieved using liquid nitrogen or liquid helium for even lower temperatures. There is already in this small table a clear separation between the low and high temperature superconductors. While superconductivity at low temperature is well understood, there is no clear explanation as yet of this phenomena at "high temperatures".
MEISSNER EFFECT
Another property of superconducting materials is the Meissner Effect. It was observed that as a magnet is brought near a superconductor, the magnet encounters a repulsive force. It can be said that the superconductor completely expels the magnetic field and behaves as a perfect diamagnet.

A superconductive disk on the bottom, cooled by liquid nitrogen, causes the magnet above to levitate. The floating magnet induces a current, and therefore a magnetic field, in the superconductor, and the two magnetic fields repel to levitate the magnet.
This property has implications for making high speed, magnetically-levitated trains, for making powerful, small, superconducting magnets for magnetic resonance imaging, etc.
I´ve never heard about this before, damn.

^I thought I'd answer this over here on your thread where Mr. Icon appears to have shifted the conversation!Hey Baron, have you seen the new Adventures of Tintin movie?
^I haven't seen it. I was a fan of the source material too (although more of an Asterix boy really), but I didn't like the cartoon adaptions at all. So, I was in two minds when it came out, but the animation a la The Polar Express sort of pushed me into not going...^AwesomeLet me know what you think of the movie once you watch it - I'd be interested how it rates with a fan of the original stuff. I reckon I'll give the dvd a try. If you liked his derring-do though I'd recommend the books - although racial/national stereotypes are in abundance! I liked his quizzical zeal too, and for that reason my favourite was The Castafiore Emerald which kind of read like a book with that other famous Belgian: Hercule Poirot!
^Behati is Harley Quinn, and don't you forget it!This picture makes me think she'd make an awesome Harley Quinn![]()

I don't remember any of the Tintin stories. It's been too long since I've read them.

Yes, there's a dichotomy to his character.
