I think once a company reaches a certain profile and status, moral pretty much goes out the window and they start to see employees no longer as people but easily disposable/replaceable objects. It is unfortunate but that's just the way it is.

Big companies also overspecialize their functions, and too much of their personnel have esoteric specializations and deep but non-transferable skills. Employees tend to be more general in skills and less market-based in privately owned companies or medium/small businesses.

Lily is a great editorial and commercial model. She is also a great spokesmodel. I have said this to Jennka before, Lily is the only one out of all of the Angels who deals with being interviewed the best She is calm, down-to-earth, poised, and eloquent. I guess that makes up for her lack of runway skills I think they often have her in the Pink section b/c that is the only part of the fashion show she can hide her weak walk. At the same time the irony is VS also usually put HF models in the Pink section

The irony for me is that the VS fashion show features a ton of my most beloved HF models, but few of them work much for the company at all. I enjoy the show just to see them, and I couldn't care less about the Angels.

Back in 2005, however, I did like Ale A , AnaBB, and Karolina K, though. But all of this was before my time.

I can't comment on the personalities of the angels......I've rarely seen their commercials and promotional activity. I only remember hearing Gisele talk and that was ages ago. As for the current Angel lineup, Lindsay Ellingson has a nice voice. That's all I've heard.

Yeah, of course. I do like the whole 'model focus' though, it's part of the fun and I enjoy it regardless. Personally, I don't like VS very much, but I like the VS fashion show a lot since it's good entertainment. I ignore VS until (right now), and have a good time with it on BZ.

I do think that Candice S., Alessandra, and the 'Angels' are more important than their other models. By cutting, for instance, Adriana loose during her prime, they lose some of their investment in one of their assets- so Adriana and Candice should have some pricing power and leverage on the negotiating table. They shouldn't be totally expendable like most of the models that rotate through their catalog.

We are model fanatics so obviously we would enjoy the whole model-focus aspect of VS. As I mentioned before, VS is so significant in some model fanatics’ lives IT IS their life. People’s crazies usually come out in full force around this time of year

They are promoting Candice more as they are fading out Adriana and Ale. Adriana is VS’ main cash cow so they are fading her out slower than Ale. Adriana also needs VS more than Ale because she doesn’t do much outside of VS. Ale has managed to venture out by doing work with other brands.

I hear your point about Adriana and Candice having the same pricing power. It does make sense but in practice it would not work. Like I said Adriana is their main cash cow. She is not only seasoned but she is also synonymous with the brand. Candice has not quite reach that level yet, but if VS keeps promoting her and if she plays her cards right she will eventually reach that level. Regardless, Adriana and Ale need to go soon. They can’t be with VS forever and I think it is time for some fresh faces to reign...just not Bubba

You said you were an intern. There should be a fuzzy marketing strategy narrative/explanation- based out of 'Fingerspitzengefuehl' (translated from German, would be 'fingertip-feel' or an intuitive sense of what the different segments of their markets are wishing for and what is the best combination of girls at any particular moment)

It would be interesting to know why they have the Angels that they have. Personally, I don't like any of them, but I think that Candice stands out. And I don't believe that they rotate the Angels randomly so see what sticks and the actual reasons for their selection is probably known by only a few key strategists and employees.

Why did they, for instance, promote Erin and Lindsay Ellingson so rapidly? I can see how Doutzen (who is very popular in holland) or Candice are indispensable. So, yes, they needed American blondes but there are a great many to choose from. But Erin and Lindsay are (at least to me) indifferent models and not oozing with appeal.

I was an Assistant Brand Manager at VS, not an intern. I think you are confusing it with Hearts On Fire (they did the 2006 Fantasy Bra). I did some branding work for them while at grad school.

I think the reason Candice stands out is b/c VS promotes her like crazy. She is in everything! Don’t get me wrong I do like Candice but it is obvious VS wants her to be the main face once Adriana and Ale hang up their wings.

Many of the Angels have mentioned in interviews when VS looks at their inventory and items sold, they also look at the model who modeled the items. If an item did well, whoever modeled the item will get more shots and exposure. I am sure it is more complex than that and some sort of algorithm is involved, but that’s one way they determine which models get to stay, comeback, and let go.

As for Bubba and Lindsay, they are promoting them as an attempt to make them "stick" and also to get as much ROI as possible. I could see Lindsay’s appeal. She has that sweet, innocent, blond, doe eye, look to her that could be considered sexy. Other than that her personality is pretty bland and in interviews she does not seem calm and natural. As for Erin, I don’t understand her appeal at all. She is a pretty girl with a commonplace look. You could easily find millions of girls who look like her. Also, she sounds snotty in her interviews. She tries to present herself as humble and down-to-earth but it all seems fake.

Briefly looking at the recent Limited' 10K & annual report: the majority of their VS' income comes from sales of bras and panties and the other segments in VS are not so important.

Whenever I'm in a VS store, I find their pink stuff to be terribly cheap in quality, appearance, and value, and literally like old navy type garbage. So I suppose that the teenage girls latch on these wares, and then graduate to the bras and panties.

And the Angels are their Girl Scout Troop Leaders.

VS also makes a lot of money from PINK but I think they consider it as a sub-brand that is not part of the main VS revenue

The only comment I will make about Leo is he is good actor who’s acting ability is over-hyped. He is very lucky to be part of many highly raved and anticipated films.

I understand why VS tries to be HF but it is not working. Most of their clothing items are poor quality nor is it stylish. Also most HF models are not suited to model lingerie. VS should just quit the whole HF and actually hire models who are qualified---this includes for the fashion show. I like seeing HF models at the show too but I feel quite a few are there just for the sake of being perceived as HF.

The line-up in 2005 was pretty good.

I live in the Northeast so 70 degrees sounds fabulous to me---not too cold but not too warm. That is just me and based on the environment I am used to. I could imagine someone who is used to living in a warm climate thinking 70 degrees is chilly

Letting your vagina air out and breath is indeed a good thing (Y) It decreases the occurrence of yeast infections and other funkiness. A doctor once told me it is good to sleep w/o panties so I sometimes do that when the weather isn't too cold

The weather here is pretty chilly. Around the 30's-40's, but it has been colder during this time of year in the past. I am just glad it is not snowing. Not a fan of [heavy] snow

I sometimes too engage in the mindless conversations. It is hard not to b/c you feel you get sucked in once you start reading the posts After awhile I realize it is pointless. People are going to have their opinions and they are not always interested in hearing what others have to say. All these conversations become cyclical b/c people repeat their opinions and responses over and over again

As I said many times, BZ is life to many members because they let it consume them. For some it is very easy to get sucked in and avoid reality and their real life when they are online. Some even go to the extreme of creating persona(s) of something they wish they were in real life

Lily does indeed seem like a sweet girl. I cannot imagine any of the Angels truly disliking her b/c she is so laid back and personable I think that's the reason why she was put with Adriana at the last VS event. Candi & Adriana don't click, and neither does Miranda & Adriana. Candi & Miranda seem pretty neutral towards each other so the best person to put w/ Adriana is Lily (or Doutzen and maybe Ale but Ale has already done a lot this season).
