...Would Miranda be another 'cash cow' like Ale?

I am not sure what to think of Miranda. She has a lot of fans and people do kinda know who she is but I am not sure would these factors impact VS’ sales. For some reason I don’t think she has a significant influence on getting people to consistently shop at VS.

You know, I once talked to a woman who was stopping by from Georgia and, in our conversation, she started beaming so much about the 'VS giftcard' her husband gifted her for their anniversary. I don't think any high-brow, status-oriented urban woman would see the VS brand in that way, lol.

Something about the VS marketing strategy makes it seem like a scheme to pocket price premiums from people who live in lower-density areas and aren't saturated with too much buyer power and consumer choice. There's the town center, and it's now very often just a cluster of generic corporate stores.

VS started out as brand for the average everyday woman. They have created an illusion of glamour and sexiness that is “accessible” to most women [in the US]. Currently they are trying to venture out into the luxury goods arena which is fine as long as they don’t go too astray from the core of their brand.

Most of their consumers are either younger females or women with moderate incomes. If they try to go too high-end they would alienate most of their consumers. Also, considering the quality of their products is just “ok” I doubt they have the capability to produce anything truly high-end.

... Erin seems very..commonly pretty as you say, and perhaps relatable. I'm sure many young girls, from all across the country, could see themselves as a 'Erin' or relate to her appearance and background? Erin's the 'hot girl' from 'high school'

I agree, a lot of girls can relate to Erin’s appearance and background.

On a slightly different note, I have noticed ever since she and Leo called it quits she has been getting easily flusttered and stuttering during TV appearances. Leo traumatized her

It's probably more expensive for VS to develop more models than the Angels they already have. I can see how VS can get good quality HF models on the cheap in this way by paying them once and mooching off their already established personal brand equity and familiarity. I wonder how much was this year's (IIRC) $12 million dollar budget were fees to the models themselves. Probably not too much.

I know for a fact when they “re-branded” themselves from being too sexy, they also revised their contracts terms so it is less exclusive therefore paying their Angels less. However, it is still more than what most other brands pay.

I don’t remember how much VS pays the models to do the fashion show but what I do somewhat recall is, whatever the model makes the agency takes at least 35%.

^ Yikes...I shall not pry into the holidays anymore then

Luckily it wasn't anything too bad, I actually worked out today afer taking a 2 day break from it. And I hear ya, tis the season for the sniffles, runny noises, and mucus coughs :yuck: Thx for the good wishes though

Actually yes I do. I took a few last Saturday during our 8 hour shift help Sorry for the quality though. I took my Blackberry vs my iPhone out of the worries of dropping if from about 20 feet in the air. Sides, my Blackberry is subsidized via my job

Now to start with, here is what I was working on, the 3 little birds up above on the float. I was giving the task of gluing on the feathers on the breast of the birds using corn husks. The previous people f'ed up with the 2 right birds and they absolutely loved my work on the far left bird so I went ahead and re-corn husked the other 2 birds on the right...ya, I'm feeling special

Close up of the half-ass job. And they are STRICT about the quality of the work. They will either scrape off the work with no notice or have someone cover it up if possible.

I think Adriana’s “fame” has gone way into head that her sense of reality is skewed. A common drawback of being rich & famous I remember someone on tFS who has worked with her said, she is traumatized by her success to the point she has lost touch with reality. I could see that. And her delusional and obsessive fans definitely contribute to her madness

Yes, there are members here who have multiple personas---an account for each I am not clear why people do that. The most common reasons I have seen are, to vote multiple times on polls and to make it seem like “someone” agrees with them on points they make

Like I said before, it is all about escaping reality and “becoming” for a brief moment who you wish you were. It is so easy online since there is a degree of anonymity and lack of accountability.

That is really awesome the feathers are made out of corn husk. Talk about being sustainable And you did the birds!? Whoa, you got some mad legit skills there buddy! It is obvious the bird on the right is better quality than the other 2. It is a much higher grade. You must be very proud of yourself The float looks fabulous in general but that might be b/c I am an animal lover (except for rats, ferrets and possum---those fuckers can become extinct for all I care)

Thank you for sharing!

Well, that description would nicely fit with what I was thinking for the last year. When I look at her, she always acts like some kind of Xena the Warrior, not even mentioning how it irritates me that her English hasn´t improved a fu*kin bit. I thought such thing was impossible - I was obviously wrong. It also seems that model mostly attracts fans that are somehow "like her". Of course it is easier to find someone you can identify with, but the whole crazyness is sometimes unbelievable.

Lol those are quite logical reasons, I agree. The sad thing is, it still counts for nothing in real life. But I guess these people don´t realize it - or rather won´t

She is actually decent model who is capable of walking properly but VS has messed her up by encouraging her to do those tacky gestures on the runway Her English has not improved much b/c she puts no effort into it. Now she is dealing w/ the consequences b/c she has not made very good overall choices regarding her career. She has relied on VS too much. When she leaves she is pretty much screwed b/c she has done very few projects outside of VS. She is trying very hard to salvage her career but it's alittle too late b/c she isn't getting any younger. I know she recently did a campaign for a South Korean fashion brand but it is not a globally popular brand and most models start out doing minor work in Asia. It is strange she would do such a minor project so I speculate it is her attempt to "save" her career while she is still relevant.

Life is tough for a lot of people so they find whatever escape they can. Some abuse substances....and some create multiple accounts and/or a new identity on forums It is all about avoiding reality and being in denial

That's pretty negative thing to say PC, and it's not what I think of this forum, as it's too inactive for that sort of thing. I think that the posters that are doing themselves a disservice now are those that are obsessively-compulsively using their mobiles to make as many posts as possible just to kill time....doing so is the opposite of fun for me but the forum itself survives when photos are posted. The energy directed towards polls and competitions on the other hand....

What exactly did I say you found negative? :notsure: I have been a member on various fashion/model forums since the early 2000’s (damn, I feel old! ) and for a large chunk of the time I have been a staff member. I have seen a lot of stuff. There are members past and present who have multiple accounts and/or have created online personas. I am not going to get into specific details b/c it would take too long and it is unnecessary, nor am I going give specific members’ names out of respect. What I can tell you is whether or not a member post pictures is often irrelevant.

What are their main competitors in those particular segments and do these have a chance of putting pressure on Limited/VS to evolve? I have seen 'Aerie/AE' stores and are these significant? What are their top 3 or 4 competitors? What is their advantage over these actually, outside of marketing. More in terms of their operations and logistics?

What are their market shares? Their sales are > 6 B and their EBIT is ~1 B

You don't have to answer these questions, but I am just curious about what you remembered from your time there and how much reached you.

I know Les Wexner for awhile was concerned about Gilly Hicks being a threat to PINK. Not sure does he still feel that way.

I could see Aerie as a top competitor especially since it is a sub-brand of an appeal company versus PINK which is a sub-brand of a lingerie company.

What ballpark cuts do top agencies squeeze from top 100 HF models who work for top clients (like Valentino, etc.)?

I don’t know what it is currently.

Oh, the context makes it clearer. My mistake. I took your description as a descriptor of prolific posters that are posting today- I have never seen antics from the 30+ posts a day crowd and I think that they deserve leniency.

The thing with 'high end' lingere is all the Limited has to do is to make a few acquisitions of businesses that do have such expertise, and transfer their new production resources onto VS. Then go for scale if need be. A few small privately owned Italian and French firms would do. Or a few NY boutiques. It wouldn't be expensive for VS given the size of their reserves.

A more competitive, and more efficient VS, if it taps out the mainstream market's buyer power, is to continue improving the quality of their wares in, at the very least, a duopoly sort of industry structure. This, from what I've seen on BZ about their products and heard hasn't happened. (yet). It would be interesting (for you more than me of course..) to see how the market will evolve as soon as a strong competitor does emerge and threaten the Limited. How will the lingere market mature over time? that's an interesting question.

I don't think it would work out well if VS directly incorporates high-end lingerie into their product lines b/c it contradicts with their brand core and essence. I know they have already created a high-end line but considering the numerous times they have attempted at this, they will fail. The only possible way the "high-end" concept could work is if Limited Brands created a sub-brand indirectly connected to VS. Something in between the connection of PINK and La Senza to VS. A lot of brands do this. Limited Brands could go with your idea of acquiring a few small privately owned Italian and French firms or NY boutiques, and go from there

The thing w/ VS' products is their quality has gone down significantly for almost a decade. Perhaps it was b/c of the unstable economy so they were cutting corners, I don't know.

Like everything in life nothing last forever. VS cannot reign forever. Eventually something will happen and they will no longer be the top dog. Whether will it be they get knocked down or there will be another strong competitor (duopoly like you said), who knows. I doubt it would be something we will witness in the near future. A potential competitor could be the global brand Triumph. The brand has a long established history, they are in many countries, and they have sub-brands. They are currently not in the US but if they ever do decide to open shop here and they play their cards rights, they could be a threat to VS.

Yes, I was thinking like a completely different storefront and brand, kind of how Banana Republic(high-end)/Old navy(low-end) is related to the GAP (mid-range) and with shared services and production resources. As far as VS goes, I went into a store a few months ago and found it tacky. Suburban women & men don't want something better? Have media periodicals and websites started to complain about the value of their products? hmmph. There is only so much that their customers can take, and eventually the buyer will move their dollars somewhere else and demand something better...but it could take a long time for these standards to reach critical mass.

You are right about the high-end, and how it would (if integrated in VS) simply compress VS' margins and obfuscate their image in their mid-range and low-range product lines.

Is La Senza a low-middle end store?

I don't think it would work out well if VS directly incorporates high-end lingerie into their product lines b/c it contradicts with their brand core and essence. Yes, something along those lines but maybe slightly more high-end than Banana Republic's status.

As far as VS goes, I went into a store a few months ago and found it tacky. Suburban women & men don't want something better?

They probably do but don't know any better b/c of the limited information exposure and resources available to them. Middle America is like a totally different world compare to the rest of the country when it comes to stuff like this.

Have media periodicals and websites started to complain about the value of their products? hmmph. There is only so much that their customers can take, and eventually the buyer will move their dollars somewhere else and demand something better...but it could take a long time for these standards to reach critical mass.

They try to keep these complaints under wraps the best they can. When I was at VS there were quite a few recalls w/ their BBV and Very Sexy bras and cotton/PINK panties. Mainly allergic reactions and bad construction.

VS can get away with this for now b/c they don't have many strong competitors. Although a few years ago GAP Body was doing very well and VS got a little nervous, so they re-branded and re-launched the Cotton Collection.

Is La Senza a low-middle end store?

Yes, it is low-middle end store mainly in Canada but they are also in other countries. They are like a fun and light-hearted mix of VS, PINK and Frederick's of Hollywood. Limited Brands currently does not own the whole La Senza brand but for what I have heard they are slowly working towards it. Eventually they will have full ownership.
