Hey James, what caused the problem? A single disk crash in a RAID 5 array shouldn't be a problem. Was the RAID controller compromised in the crash? ![]()
Yes, I'm curious... ![]()

Well we are not exactly 100% sure on the sequence of events but it went something like this. The machine has 2 raid sets, the OS (raid 1) and /var on the raid 5. A hard drive failed on the raid 5 and it should have sent out an email but our mailserver marked it as spam and never got delivered anyways so the machine has been running degraded for a while. Now after this we are not 100% sure, so something happened to the degraded disk and it failed so /var went offline meaning nothing was getting logged. At some point after this the machine froze since it couldnt log and would not respond. We had to hard reboot to get it to respond and after a lot of fighting to get it to boot again (bad superblocks) we got it up. Now here is where the issue is, DBs do auto roll backs to consistant states, but these rollbacks depend on logs to tell the ID numbers to get it back in sync. Since it hadnt been logging for a while cuz the /var was broken it couldnt recover to a consistant state.
Anyways thats pretty much a quick summary of what went on, we have tried to recover the data from the binary files but without the logs its impossible.

Thanks for the info.

so with the crash, does that mean we also have to reban the people we banned between Sept and now? :|

Yeah. But... as for postcount, you might just be able to parse the http logs for posts, and increment user's postcount's based on that?

Does it really matter that much, though?
I doubt anyone but the really big spammers/pippers will care about the post count, most people only care about the lost content.

Well my guess is a few people care b/c they hit milestones (moiselles for example was over 10,000 and now she's back to being under that) but I don't have any real desire to fix everyone's post count anyway. I know it matters to some people, and I don't mind fixing theirs but I'm not going out of my way to do everyone's or anything like that :|
More importantly, does anyone remember the 5 usernames of that multi-account holder? Daniyzela, enVy, precious...I don't remember the other two...christ XD ![]()
ETA: remembered a fourth: Honey's secret. But damned if I remember the 5th ![]()

I say for anyone who bitches abt. their post count, we set it back to 0 ![]()

^^ ![]()
I love you Pinky.

We now have all the images on the NAS, a functioning DB server and a functioning backup server as well as the current machine that hosts BZ.
Anyways hopefully its running faster and smoother for all yall and let me know if you encounter any wierd problems.
