mike, is there a media player (other than BS player) that's free AND that i can use to take screen caps with? BS player has been giving me a hard time lately and so i was wondering if there are any other options out there.

wooohhoooo, Mini celebration joined.....and commenced. I may have missed it, but I can still have a little party now.

Ahhh, if punching me will make you feel better, punch away. I have no problem helping you out. I bruise like a banana though, so be gentle.

We should invent a time machine just for those instances when you have noticed something you wish you had been there to comment on, that way you don't feel like you missed out on handing someone their ass.

As for screen cap programs, I'm not really sure, BS player gives me major problems too, in fact I can't cap more than 70 caps or something before they all start turning green. *shrug* There is dvd software, but that's not free, and doesn't work with some formats. Hmmm.. Someone needs to make a program that is compatible with everything and will just take easy screen caps.

I have power dvd, which came with my drive, and I can cap with that, but some stuff doesn't work. Quicktime, will allow you to turn a video into frames I think, which is essentially screen capturing, but it does it to the whole video, so if you have a 5 minute videos it will cap the whole thing, which isn't really practical if you just want a small segment.

Other than that I'm not sure what other options there are to work with. I am useless, I know.

for me, it turns black <_< and not even after 70 caps...more like after 30 seconds of footage *grumbles* then i have to press play again...let it run for a bit, pause then start the cap process again...for another 30 seconds <_< and its really getting in the way of my Gemma capping missions

ok thanks for trying to help anyway

It's strange loud coughs tend to be the same volume in text.

I was just recovering from that random punch in the arm you gave me a few days ago, I mean did you see what happened, :magic: <---I was non-existent after that, needed some time to get back on my feet.

Actually, I was trying something out with my eyes for a few days, trying to stay off the computer as much as possible, and see whether or not it affected how tired I was during the day. So I left my contacts out for a few days, and stayed away from the computer as much as possible, and there was no difference.

So basically, I just sat really, really close to the tv for the past couple days.

really? i think that one was pretty damn loud might have even gotten a germ or two on you, though i'm not sure if that has anything to do with cough volume

nice to see my random punches can have that effect on people

so basically what you're saying is you did absolutely nothing for the past couple of days?

sounds like my kind of life

It was loud enough for me to hear/notice apparently. With the extra added benifit of e-germs all over me from that cough.

Your punch knocked me out of commission for a few days, might need to hold back a bit next time, so I don't become a vegetable.

Although, I did, as you mentioned just sit around and do nothing for the past couple days, so I'm half way to vegetable already maybe. Should punch me in the head next time.

I like just laying around in a general "never gonna get to anything" type way.

next time i'll drop kick your ass...we might not see you for a month actually that would be BAD. very bad. in fact i dont think i could deal with that again :|

vegetables can't type, so you're still in good shape i guess unless of course you dont want that...in which case, we can go back to the dropkick idea.

yeah...same here...its friggen sweet

hey what do you know about valium? enough for me to interview you for class?

I'm gonna go learn some moves so that will never happen, mainly dodging fast moving legs.

Our internet bills are piling up, there might be some long vacations for me before long. I doubt it will happen though.

True, I must be just above vegetable status to be able to type still. Maybe we can work on that though, commence with the dropkicking, only pure vegetative rest and relaxation awaits me.

What do I know about Valium, hmmm....not a thing as far as I know. I think it's a nervousness, or anxiety drug right, maybe a non-conventional sleep aid or something. Definitely not enough info to fill in an interview with there.

I'd say just go read up on it, and then make up a fake interview.

noooo i'll send you money for your internet bills if i have to :|

i think i'll hold off on dropkicking you until you're like...no longer useful arent i such a nice person?

hmm damn! haha. so for class we have to interview a person (technically you wouldnt be old enough anyway) about what they remember/know about valium from when they were growing up. my mom doesnt know much and like...that sucks because frankly, she's my only option seeing as i dont communicate with the human race face to face anymore

we also need to come up with a research paper topic by friday...mind you, i havent been to class (like ever), i havent done the reading, aaaaand i zone out in section (seriously, more often than not i'm online because sections i've already discovered are completely useless). so basically what we have here is a person who doesnt know whats going on in class...at all. i'm in great shape for the final exam in may

ashley, if you read this...seriously...dont let me influence you :|

I don't think it will come down to that hopefully. Somehow (with the one exception) we always seem to find a way to keep the cable and internet up and going.

So very nice of you to give me that extension on the drop kicking. I'll try my best to never become useless, that way I don't have to face that day.

I guess that would definitely disqaulify me from the interview runnings. How do they expect you to do that? I mean what if you're a hermit, and don't know anyone who has had any kind of experience. They should have some kind of alternative for those people.

I can imagine you are gonna go into take your exam in May, thinking there is going to be no way you can pass it, and by some miracle your gonna pull it off. Then you will start a non-profit advocacy group to sway college students decisions to go to class everyday.

You'll be fine, even though you never go, it's natural not to go to your classes right?

hahaha nice! you people have your priorities in order! cable & internet first, food second

actually i really dont know. i notice how there's always this lack of consideration for people who dont fit the "norm." case in point, class participation. considered by me to be a fate worse than death. and there's this whole rationalization that this is how real life is and my god if you want to be successful you have to be vocal. nice. yes, thank you for YOUR views on what it means to be successful. next time i want them, i'll ask seriously fuck off. my view of success is getting through the day without throwing a chair at one of these pretentious assholes. but i'm sure none of them have ever thought of this.

i will probably pass my exam in may because one day before the exam i will watch all the lectures online and skim the readings. :| this is how i operate. it helps when you're not aiming to get anything higher than a B- in the class.

on another random note, dont you hate when random people come into your thread and start talking to you? i never know how to get rid of them :|

The book or the movie? Cause no matter how messed up you think the movie is, it doesn't even come close to the book.

Oohh, I'm popular today. Hope you have a good day too.

Hey Capt! Just thought u might like to know that I have decided u are worthy of a flag!

Gonna have to pin it to my shirt, and display it proudly.

We can do without food, but internet, ain't no way we can survive without that neccessity.

So you read American Psycho, pretty crazy isn't it. You finished it over the weekend, I remember when I used to be able to read fast. I need to re-read it again soon, I can barely remember much about it. The movie is pretty decent too, not as in depth as the book goes though. When did I post my favorite books, must have been a while ago.

pretty crazy?!?!

ok soooo how do i start? first of all, there are potential spoilers ahead for anyone who hasnt read the book/seen the movie but wishes to do so. you have been warned

so anyway, i already knew that it was gonna be ... uhhh... graphic. someone on tFS had mentioned that they felt the "rat scene" was unnecessarily graphic and disgusting. so i KNEW going into it that the violence was going to be bad/intense. for that reason, i actually mostly just skimmed the scenes in which he went on his little killing sprees because i know me...i cant deal with that kind of stuff. i think i only managed to read one scene in its entirety (where he kills the ex-girlfriend bethany...with the nail gun...yeah...then beats the shit out of her face with her detached arm...uhhh right...moving on :|). all the rest i caught bits and pieces. the worst parts (for me) to be honest were the instances of cannibalism...that was the stuff i couldnt deal with. even more than that friggen rat scene. when he goes down on one of those girls (some call girl i think) and he ...ugh... seriously i cant even finish the sentence. that was the only time i literally tossed the book aside and had to take deep breaths and try to purge the image from my head. still hasnt happened yet :|

all that being said, people argue whether or not the explicit and intense detail about his violent acts is necessary. idk how you feel about it but i say yes, it is. despite not being able to actually read much of it, i think it goes along with the rest of the book. the disgusting amount of detail provided about his and others' clothes, what to drink and when, how to shave, snorting coke, and whatever else. greed, hedonism, materialism, excess. it all fits together brilliantly. the scene where they all lay out their business cards and compare them...all i thought was WTF?! who CARES?! and yet, this...this is generates more emotion out of bateman than killing a child. what i "love" most is the way he presents everything as if this is perfectly normal. when he's dropping clues about what he does at night (e.g. the sheets he brings to the dry cleaners "with someone else's blood", the early christmas presents he buys for himself - the knives, saws, and whathaveyou). these things are mentioned with such a casual ease, it's chilling, frightening, and dare i say? fascinating. the way he mentions his girlfriend's neighbor's head sitting in his freezer, or the other person's head sitting on the piano. its all done in a flat, matter-of-fact way that makes this seem like just another day.

he gets away with all of it precisely because he fits a certain image. he doesnt look ANYthing like a homicidal maniac. people expect killers to look like killers. they expect it to be obvious. and because he doesnt fit their conception of a maniac, even when he says exactly what he does, no one takes him seriously. and the thing is...this is pretty fucking accurate. i think that's the scariest part of all. it's not like society has changed all that much. people still expect their killers to look a certain way. the more money you make, the less people suspect you of doing this kind of horrendous shit.

another point, i found parts of this novel to be HILARIOUS :| sometimes even in a chapter right after he's killed someone, which makes it that much more unsettling. i mean when Luis (the gay guy) is holding on to Bateman's leg, refusing to let go and he's dragging the guy throughout the store, i was cracking the fuck up. and i found it bizarrely funny (ugh i'm gonna sound like a freak) when he shoots the guy (homeless dude?) in the face but the silencer isnt put on the gun right so of course, the shot is loud as hell and the cops start chasing his ass. and he's bitching about how of all the people he's killed, he might get caught over something this stupid. something about that just tickles me :|

i could totally go on about this for hours. and perhaps i shall but i have class at 5:30 (have to catch the 5:15 shuttle) so i'll stop for now, and leave you with my favorite passage from the book instead

i think this may be one of the best books i've ever read
