It's good isn't it. The stuff is so intense, that is described in this book it would be easy for someone to get turned off pretty quick, I almost did when I first started reading it, just thinking "This isn't my type of book".

I got annoyed pretty quick with the repetitive detailing of everything though, but once I got going along, it fell right into place, and it was an integral part of the book, it helps put you inside his mind.

For some reason I can't remember the part with the rat. My memory is pretty much shot, another reason I should re-read this soon. But I know how the rest of the book plays out in those scenes, so I'm sure it's overly graphic. Why can't I remember that part.

The cannibalism, *shudder* the part you mentioned him going down on the girl, It's one of the parts they left in the movie, and it's a pretty disturbing scene on film, but when your mind can go ever farther with the possibilities, it just gives you that cold feeling after reading it. I am really having trouble remembering the book, and having seen the movie not too long ago, I am getting things twisted in my head. Anyways when a book can affect you like that, you know it's really worth reading, even if the content is at times, very graphic and morbid.

I think the intense nature of everything he does in the book, needs that extra graphic description, to force you to actually vizualize what is happening, the book is designed to make you remember what you've read and be something you won't ever forget, and it achieves it pretty well (except in my case, memory loss). This book keeps you basically wrapped around it's finger until the end, because you always want to pick it back up to see what's going to happen, what he could possibly do next and to hopefully find out why, lots of books as I'm sure you know, could only hope to achieve that kind of pull.

the scene where they all lay out their business cards and compare them...all i thought was WTF?! who CARES?! and yet, this...this is generates more emotion out of bateman than killing a child

Exactly, perfectly showing the audience, Bateman's complete disconnection from anything human. Everything a normal person would find horribly unnatural, Bateman is perfectly at ease with. As you mentioned the strange gifts for himself, he acts as if it's no different than any other object you would buy for yourself. He's completely without conscience.

The fact that he can drop these little hints, and really they are more than subtle, the sheets, people are completely oblivious, showing just how disconnected other people can become from their surroundings, and the people around them. The idea that he can feel completely at ease while dropping these hints shows that he has no remorse or regret, or fear of getting caught doing what he does, once again pointing to his less than normal psyche. Most people opening their freezer to find a head, even if they had put it in there themselves, would normally feel something, even slightly, but not Bateman.

The fact that he is not your prototypical serial killer, might be the most frightening part of the entire story, because, from all outward appearance and his demeanor, he's just the normal everyday guy, same as everyone else, it's frightening to think that there are people out there who fit the mold for that type of personality. Like you mentioned people always expect these psycho's to look a certain way, and Batemans' appearance puts the people in the book into a false sense of security. You'd expect the mind inside the man to be inside the body of a guy who just got done bathing in the river.

I found lots of part's where I was compelled to laugh, I do remember that much. The scene with the homeless guy, is seriously one of the best parts of the book I thought, they even adapted it pretty well in the film, which is a testament to the quality of that part in the book, or else they would have cut it. If I remember right he shoots a janitor at some point during that sequence as well. It all feels like it's starting to fall apart for him, and you start to feel a small amount of desperation from him that he might just be at the end, which is unnatural with the way his mind works. Like maybe his mind has finally caught up momentarily with what he has been doing all this time.

That passage there is actually what they end the movie on if I remember correctly, a pretty good way to close out what has been a pretty fucked up ride. The book is infinitely more in depth though, for obvious reasons.

Damn, now I really want to read this book again, but I'm in the middle of another book. You gave a pretty good rundown of the book there, I can't keep up. I used to be able to absorb and remember so much when I read books, and it's seems now days, I can't get half that.

I guess maybe I should have said, both those teams which I won't mention.

I think Calgary is playing tonight, it's not on here though, but I get to watch the Sharks and Kings play the late game after this one, I should say, I have the choice of watching that game, but won't be.

Los Angeles has sucked so bad lately there's not even a point to watching them. Of course they beat Calgary the other night, but that we don't talk about <_<

And I think Calgary does because I got an email. But I do not remember if it was a pre-game report email, or just a general HEY FANS LOOK WE HAVE STUFF email. Because they're selling tickets for the playoffs. Not that it does me a lot of good because I am not in Calgary. But hey, if I really wanted to waste the hundreds of dollars I am sure it will be, then why not, right.

And it amazes me where I can get wireless on my computer. Totally random, but yes.

boo, i have homework so i'll have to respond more thoroughly later BUT i just wanted to clue you in on this part.

My lord how the hell could I have forgotten that. Gonna have to go and get my memory re-erased. Good luck on that homework, not sure how your gonna concentrate with those mental images constantly popping up.

Detroits' played like crap through the first two periods, down 2 nothing, in jeopardy of being shut out for the first time this season. I'm not liking this game so much. I can hear you laughing from here. Edit:Scratch that, no shut out today.

I think getting beaten by really terrible teams is just bound to happen, I mean they are all good teams with good players just a matter of clicking at the right times. We got embarassed by St Louis, up 4 nothing if I remember correctly, just to have them come back and win 5-4 Shit happens I guess.

I won't be watching that late game though, checked out chronicles of narnia, so maybe I'll watch that.

I couldn't get playoff tickets here unless I got a time machine and went back and bought them in advance 5 years ago. I swear it seems sometimes like the tickets are gone before they are even printed out. Never been to a game either, and that basically makes me the only guy in the area.

I say if your gonna spend hundreds of dollars on tickets, the playoffs is the right time to do it.

That there redish colored flying device, came from behind and won the game. Gonna go toss rocks at my head so that avada doesn't strain her arm launching them at me.

Ahh, the bat was unexpected, yet welcome over the thud of rocks. Calgary should win tonight, we'll focus on that and hopefully drown me out entirely.

haha ok i thought it was just me it's like dude...if i read about so and so's suit one more time i'm gonna scream. i mean he knew what EVERYONE was wearing. even the women. wtf?! :|

The cannibalism, *shudder* the part you mentioned him going down on the girl, It's one of the parts they left in the movie, and it's a pretty disturbing scene on film, but when your mind can go ever farther with the possibilities, it just gives you that cold feeling after reading it. they left that in the movie  okay HELL NO i will not be watching that i was considering it for an insane moment there but not with that scene included. absolutely no way i could stomach that. i cant even stomach the mental image that keeps popping in my head like every few minutes i think what bothers me most is that i was not expecting that. with all the other sex scenes, i knew when it was time to skip ahead. there'd be some kind of break when it was clear things were gonna turn violent. here it's like one minute he's eating her out and the next minute...he's...eating...her...out :|

I think the intense nature of everything he does in the book, needs that extra graphic description, to force you to actually vizualize what is happening, the book is designed to make you remember what you've read and be something you won't ever forget, and it achieves it pretty well (except in my case, memory loss). the thing is...we never find out why. there is no fucking why. it's all just senseless violence that derives from a self-absorption that is so total and complete, there seems to be no other outlet for it except killing. and because there's no why, it makes the whole thing--a person like that--that much scarier. cause there's pretty much no hope. when you have no conscience what is there to do? there's no fixing that.

You'd expect the mind inside the man to be inside the body of a guy who just got done bathing in the river.

people's obliviousness in this book is astonishing to me. and also the idea that money can buy anything. first, it buys you the appearance of sophistication (when in reality the man is an animal, and i wouldnt even go there because i think animals act with more compassion than this guy). second, it basically shuts people up: the cab driver who recognizes him as killing another cab driver (that Bateman has no recollection of killing) but instead of reporting him, steals his money and his precious rolex. then there's the maid (who i never consider in this whole thing...who the FUCK has a maid when you're a serial killer?! WHO!?!?) who he mentions having to clean up all the blood. ummmm WHAT?! :| so she cleans up the blood week after week and doesnt find this strange? because she's being paid handsomely. i mean what kind of fucked up shit is this? this is where the book has real depth. anyone who thinks it's just a catalogue of senseless violence is missing the satire here. though perhaps not as fucked up as Bateman, a society that allows him to get away with all this shit--that refuses to acknowledge what it doesnt want to see--is almost just as fucked up. when you place so much importance on appearances, this is what happens. not that society is to blame for one man's depraved actions but the culture does contribute at least in part to his ability to keep doing it without much worry about getting caught.

I found lots of part's where I was compelled to laugh, I do remember that much. The scene with the homeless guy, is seriously one of the best parts of the book I thought, they even adapted it pretty well in the film, which is a testament to the quality of that part in the book, or else they would have cut it. definitely agree with you on that one. he is fuckin desperate in that scene. jumps in the cab, demands that the guy drives, and after god knows how many minutes of non-compliance, shoots the guy in the head and drives the cab himself. frankly, i have to wonder why he didnt just do that in the first place definitely get the sense things are falling apart for him but then everything returns to "normal" with him and he's back killing people and sticking vaginas in his locker at the gym. ANYway, there's another moment where it's clear he's losing touch with reality (uh right, because the killings werent really an indication of this heh). he mentions the ATM talking to him, and a park bench chasing him and then talking to him as well. uhhh, maybe it's time to lay off the coke, xanax, and J&B's there Bateman.

That passage there is actually what they end the movie on if I remember correctly, a pretty good way to close out what has been a pretty fucked up ride. The book is infinitely more in depth though, for obvious reasons.

yeah, i watched a couple of trailers. i'm not a big fan of movies with voiceover narration even though i think it's necessary in order to adapt this novel properly. but idk, it just annoys me for some reason. i'm anal like that not that i'll be watching this movie...for abovementioned reason.

i also saw that they made a LAME ASS sequel. why god WHYYYYYY :| i'm embarassed on their behalf. seriously i dont have to even see the damn film to know the sequel is bad and totally unrelated to the themes/spirit of the novel and first film. way to ruin shit hollywood
