Octopuses give me the heeby-jeebies - I think it's seeing 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea as a child? Anyway, I appreciate that they're an interesting creature but I don't want to interact with one! I'm pretty good otherwise, creepy crawlies don't bother me, and I had a pet rat so... How about you Jennka (and anyone else)?

I´ve seen the movie as well it was great!! Octopuses always had given me the same feeling as you say... but since I´ve gotten more to know them, I´m amazed by them, absolutely, just as I´m amazed by dolphins and sharks

I guess there is no animal I´m scared of or I don´t like... I only hate gnats (because they love me ) and ticks (because they love me ) and I don´t like wasps because of their agressivity and annoyance. But I like bees and even hornets. I have no problems with rats, mouses or any other rodents. I have respect for snakes, but not scared of them. I like them a lot... but people who disrespect them mostly end very badly

^Oh no - I'm happy to eat them (pulpo al a parilla - with a little chorizo, mmm!). I just don't want one wrapping itself around my leg... I'd prefer squid too though, if there's a choice.

I'm also with you on the wasp front, Jennka. WASPS ARE EVIL!

I dunno... once I´ve eaten something like squid (dunno though) and it tasted fine but... nothing special. Almost like chicken I´m more traditional when it comes to food, I really don´t "dream" about eating sharks and dolphins and squids or crows or peacocks like some people (some of them consider it their life-goal). I can cook, and I can cook pretty good, so I really like what I cook, lol. Mostly chicken, pork or beef, or many vegetable meals as well. Ocasionally fish.

Oh, I DO love pizza

But I really love Slovak cuisine, it´s very rich and very tasty and most of the meals healthy as well (depends of course on the cook). And I rarely eat in restaurants

oh, one more thing. Just for enriching with information

Classification

Squid are members of the class Cephalopoda, subclass Coleoidea, order Teuthida, of which there are two major suborders, Myopsina and Oegopsina (including giant squids like Architeuthis dux). Teuthida is the largest cephalopod order with around 300 species classified into 29 families.

The order Teuthida is a member of the superorder Decapodiformes (from the Greek for "ten legs"). Two other orders of decapodiform cephalopods are also called squid, although they are taxonomically distinct from Teuthida and differ recognizably in their gross anatomical features. They are the bobtail squid of order Sepiolida and the ram's horn squid of the monotypic order Spirulida. The vampire squid, however, is more closely related to the octopuses than to any squid.

Indeed! :persuazn: I know they´re predators and deserve some respect, but damn... how I hate them poor bees die after they stab you, and those freakin evil wasps live happily ever after! How in the world you could call this justice, right?

The term wasp is typically defined as any insect of the order Hymenoptera and suborder Apocrita that is neither a bee nor an ant.[1] Almost every pest insect species has at least one wasp species that preys upon it or parasitizes it, making wasps critically important in natural control of their numbers, or natural biocontrol. Parasitic wasps are increasingly used in agricultural pest control as they prey mostly on pest insects and have little impact on crops.

here we have it, as wiki says... still I don´t like them

such a cutie and so dangerous it´s like that asian girl from kill bill, isn´t it? but it´s really so so beautiful. Whow. Thank you

oh, don, I was wondering why is that that Australia has the most dangerous species of animals? It´s because of it´s clima, or warm water?

No idea what the reason is.. kinda weird there's so many though hey.

Maybe it's to balance out all the fluffy harmless ones

Although you can never be too sure about those ones either

I know that one it was in one of Pratchetts´ books, where this Drop Bear dropped from tree on a magician... and as magicians go, they always wear their strong and pointy hats - you can imagine what happened to the poor creature

I really think it´s because of the clima... but I´ll study it and tell you later I recently read that the life itself started when oceans got warmer

I did believe in these things for a good few months once I'd hit New Mexico though:

Don't you think the internet has kind of ruined such flights-of-fancy now? It's oh so easy to look this sort of nonsense up, where before I was all to eager to accept wise old 'Indian' tales!

I´ve actually never thought about it, but now you´re saying it... yeah, you´re right. Before all this internet boom, you only had fairytales books or tales from other people... it was so mysterious once your fantasy started to work, wasn´ it? I really believed unicorns existed at those times, always searched for one in woods, lol. It was even more beautiful with all the mystery around it. Now... you just google it and it losts all its magic. Also with so many fake vids

There was such a magic to the whole childhood as I remember it. Are nowadays kids the same, what do you think?

Of course I know it Sailor Moon was a big boom once here... but I never got the heck of it, dunno why I remember that when I was little, the only time spent before TV was to see the bedtime story and then it was bed time. And on Saturdays and Sundays morning, before my parents woke up, I watched tv series like Ducktales or Gummy Bears or Slovak tales... but then it was time to go out. And more than TV I loved reading books. so Sailormoon never got me

but Johnny Bravo did

^It's a shame - everything gets debunked so quickly for kids. They are, in general, just much more savvy and cynical from a young age. Soon even Santa will struggle to be believed in... cryxw5.gif

Special effects are so advanced too, that kids wont be fooled by a picture of a rabbit with horns!

Lol, B but I get your point, it was indeed a little...erm... pervy as a whole. Little girls in tight dresses and short skirts... really?

Yeah, poor Santa... here it has always been "the little jesus" - "ježiško" that was believed to bring presents... can you imagine how perplexed must these children be now, with all the Santa-brought-from-abroad all around? When Russians were here, they had their Ded Maroz (Dedo Mráz), and now this Santa madness I want to maintain our Slovak traditions of Jezisko - but I seriously fear for it´s future.

Why is that that it´s getting harder and harder to believe in magic? I don´t want my children to be brought up without it... it´s a sad childhood, isn´t it. Sooner or later you´ll find out anyway, but memories will always stay with you. It makes the heart a little warmer.
