Aaaaw, how cute are those?? (Y)

I love swallows! Friends of mine living in the country side got nests under their roof every year, they are so amazing little creatures! I'm always wondering how you could create such a perfect nest with only a beak to form it! Found a little grassy bird's nest the other day, which was the most perfect circle imaginable, Thales and Euklid would have loved it Not one piece of grass out of place and well-cushioned too. Was wondering why it was laying on the ground though, maybe it was too windy ... I considered taking it with me, but then just put it into the next push and made sure it set neatly in a crotch so it could be useful again.

You´re a lovely girl Mel

I´m too fascinated by the structure of their nests. It´s just so perfect! Just like hornets and bees and wasps nests - it´s a geometery win. But it seems like it´s in nature´s character to be perfect lol. We have lots to learn from them

I could never be filming documentaries on animals. I guess I would cry most of the time and try to "help" the "poor" creatures. Absolutely not what you want to unleash on wild life ...

I didn't know dolphins eat penguins ...

Oh, tell me about that documentaries - I too just could not be the person to film it! I would not be able to just look and do nothing (although that IS the right approach) I would run around and pick up abandoned babies or try to scare away anyone who would try to hurt them

First you see an animal killing the mother of cubs - and then bum, and you see that the animal too has cubs she needs to feed... There are always two sides of the story but it is cruel - from our point of view. Sometimes I cannot even watch it.

The glow

I find giraffes just as lovely my friend is obssesed with them, so I always buy her one for her birthday - mostly plushy ones of course

Can you make me a list of what you value in which animal? I love your lists

I could go on for awhile , but here are some off the top of my head .

Wolves - I like how they work together as a team and also value the family system more than many wild animals do. They're also mysterious and graceful. Though brutal and despite feeling sorry for their pray, their hunting tactics are quite brilliant. I like the howling as well .

Ducks - they swim, fly, look pretty cool, make funny sounds and are comfortable walking with people.

Hippos - they just look really comfortable and somewhat cute even despite the fact that they're responsible for more human deaths

than lions interrestingly enough.

Gorillas - strong and peaceful when left alone and without the whole turd throwing thing that chimps come with (Y) .

Domestic Dogs - there's a wide variety, but many are reliable and appreciative for what you do for them. For example, there are people that dedicate their lives to saving some animals that would eat them just the same as they would anyone else. A dog on the other hand, feed some of them once and they never forget it.

Agree with you on all

Wolves hunting tactics never cease to amaze me. They´re really brilliant at it - yesterday there was a documentary on wolves hunting buffalos - that are like 5 times bigger and much, much heavier but no strength is enough when wolves unite I love their sheer wilderness, their strength, intelligence, sharp character - and the fact that they are so independent from humans even when you raise them.

and dogs are the most grateful animals of all - sometimes it even saddens me how thankull they are to people who don´t even deserve it

That's true, although some could be said to love their pets more than they deserve, so hopefully that balances out . Its funny, I saw that same thing on wolves. Was it the one where the half grown one got left behind by the herd? Either way, like you said, its definitely more impressive when your prey is much bigger than you compared to vise versa. The mountain lion is bigger than the wolf, but they're interresting in that they're solitary animals by contrast and also take down animals much bigger than themselves.Speaking of such, I'm a big cat fan as well . Though generally thought to be selfish compared to dogs, there are also stories of domestic cats risking their lives to save their owners too. In one notable one, a girl left some kindof heater for her injury on when she went to sleep and it caught the bed on fire. Instead of fleeing, the cat was determined to wake her up and thus helped her to get out of there.

yes, Goebbels was the man - along with others that surrounded Hitler he made it all work. Have you ever seen Inglorious Basterds Andy? I know it´s not the most history - precise movie (actually it´s the one least history - precise one, but planned so it´s ok) but it showed many "insides" of the whole story that I find very interesting - e.g. knowing of the language during war could save your life - and lives of others.

I find the movie witty and ironicly funny - with many amazing actors, German, Brittish, American, French. It also pictures Goebbels quite concisely, that actor just really played it well.

Oh hell, I wish I had time to look at the Kershaw guy I also know nothing about Wagner at all. There is so much knowledge I should study

I've seen IB, it's...very different, lol.

Well, as for Wagnerian themes, familiar concepts like "We shall never capitulate! Never! We may go down, but we will take the world with us...." were the meat and potatoes for them. And others like "Let us choose who shall live, who shall die.." were also familiar.

Goebbals did his PhD dissertation on "Romantic literature", so the inspiration for much of his demagoguery is obvious....

here's a bunch of history that should be of interest: The end of the Third Reich is often compared to Wagner's Götterdämmerung- It was literally an act of nihilist suicide. Pure madness:

eg. Three historical events-

Early 1943- German 6th Army destroyed in Stalingrad, USSR. Goebbals rallies German People for "Total War!"

Goebbals Rally, Berlin Stadium (narrated by Kenneth Branagh)

Berlin event: Several Volksturm battalions swear an oath to fight to the death for Adolf Hitler: Oct. 1944

Goebbals mobilizes the 'Volkssturm' (old men and teenage boys) in Oct. 1944 to defend Germany after over 3 million German soldiers die on the battlefield against the allies. Millions are injured or disabled.

Same event, German newsreel

Cologne: Goebbals Rally Germans for the "Final Struggle" Nov. 1944. A week later, the Germans launch the 'Ardennes Offensive', the last large scale German attack of the war. 3 weak German Armies suicidally attack several American armies (3 times larger than they) through the forrest and are stopped in two weeks. Then defeated in two more.

Documentary: Das Goebbels Experiment, narrated by Kenneth Branagh. I've never got a chance to watch it, but it's about how the Nazi proproganda ministry controlled the German people. This is acclaimed, and should be of interest:

So much literary high drama, isn't there? Except that this high drama was reality, when it should have been left to fantasy.

How terrible and unnecessary all of it was!

I think that we (humans) should be more responsible towards them. We were those who domesticated them, but now it seems like people forgot about that

Oh Joe, some people are insane when it goes to dogs or other domestic animals I´ve seen people in TV that gave their dogs clothes and went with them to the beauty saloon do you know what wolves must be thinking? "Look at that sparkling moron. And they say we are the ancestors? No bloody way, non of my uncle ever fucked a cleaning mop, I tell ya."

I´m a big cat fan too if you ask me, cats are extremely underrated amongst people in general. Let me put it in few facts:

The most spreaded lies about cats.

1, Cats are selfish and un-social.

This is the most common misunderstanding. Cat will never be a slave of humans, but that doesn´t make her false or un-social. She comes when she feels like it, she won´t come when she wants to be alone (thus, she is more frank than dogs, actually). When she needs love, she asks for it, when she needs food, she asks for it. Cats are also very social animals, in wilderness they tend to create motherhoods - they only hunt alone, and eat alone. They like to be close to humans, even when living half-wild they always come to see you when you come back to where you left them. AND bring you some dead mice so you see they´re working their asses off for you still.

2, Cats are unchangeable and ineducable.

They are actually extremelly adaptable to any environment you put them in. They just generally don´t like following orders. But they are able to respect the given restrictions.

3, Cats are infectious.

Cats are just as infectious as any other animal - actually squirrels are far more dangerous when it goes to illnesses.

4, Cats are useless - why to keep them?

Cats are extremelly helpfull and useful. They catch all the small animals, especially rodents and even rats which are very hard to kill. They keep your house healthy, they eliminate the illnesses spreaded by rodents and all in all contribute to the healthy environment of nature.

I think we should value cats much more than we do now, and learn more about them. They´re amazing creatures!

Thank you for those videos, I have to check them at home.

You´re right - terrible and unnecessary. But it seems that war is written in the human soul. All in all, there is no other predator to eliminate us than just ourselves. And damn, how great we are at that!

Distracted from reality. Just like all the other psychomaniac, isn´t it?

Great post ! Those are all definitely untrue stereotypes, but at least some of us know better . BTW, are there any Slovakian women who are famous in basketball? I'm not sure whether I've heard of a women's team from there or not.

Have you ever heard about the "Good Angels" team? I think it´s our most popular women basketbal team
