I'm 24.

For the record, I think if either party is over the age of 21, then it doesn't matter how old the other person is. 21 is the magic number in my head.

It seems to be the opposite for me lately. The girls seem interested and then when they find out I'm 25, they get scared... I'm mean it's only a difference of 6 years if I date a 19-year-old. It's perfect I think... but whatever... I'm not looking anyway.

19 and 25 is ok I guess... But 18 and 30 is :x

I've always thought if both parties were over 19 then it shouldn't matter. I know 18 might be the "legal" age but that always seemed kinda weird to me. Not that 19 is much better, but i'd feel more comfortable with let's say a 30-19 then a 30-18.

I just don't see what a 30 year old has in common with an 18 or 19 year old. You're at two totally different times in your life. Think about it... if you're 30 and you're dating someone 18 or 19... you've lived almost TWICE as long as the person you're dating. It's really weird!

The reason i say 19 is because some people experience different things in their life that may accelerate their maturity as compared to let's say the "average" 19 year old. And those few that are that mature may in fact have a lot in common with a much older person (since we've been using 30 let's stick with that age.) But yet, i do understand where you are coming from and I agree with you, 21 is probably the most ideal age. Yet, just for those certain cases i mentioned, that's why I said 19 years old would be fine.

^ Maybe in some very rare cases, but at 19 years old, you still have a LOT of growing and learning to do despite your life experiences up to that point. I thought I was very mature for 19, but in no way would I have been ready to date a 30 year old.

Some people are naturally more mature then other's as well. So a 19 year old could be fed up with the lack of maturity of people their age, and want a more serious and mature relationship with an older person.

But all in all, i do believe you are right. And i liked hearing your thoughts on this

It's definitely a very interesting discussion! My Granny was married at 14 or 15 to my Grandfather who was around 30-33 at the time. She then had my aunt a year after they were married. That is just SO young. I can't imagine that being okay in our society, but I guess it was okay way back then?

Wow I do have to say in NO WAY would that be accepted now a days. But yes, values and everything were different back then, and it seems like that was acceptable. And as one of my favorite teachers said: "if it's not against the law, it's not against the law," since laws were also different back then, I see no problem with that if you view it by the standards of back then. But you are right, that is so very young, however she seems as if she was ready for it, and congrats on her going through with that because love is love no matter the age (just now a days it's stat rape if they are under 18, atleast in canada, states might be different.)

I do think people can stay younger (or less mature) for longer these days. In my experience, the average 30 year old is just as daft as the average 20 year old. Personally though, I'd have a hard time getting my head around dating anyone younger than my little sister, who's 21.

Actually, i have noticed that too. Some older people seem to be less mature then they should be. I've seen 30+ year olds acting like their 16, and it's shocking. You would think those people should be more mature at that point in their life, set the standard for what youth should be at that age aswell.

It also depends on the type of realationship I have to guess. If a 30 and let's go 19 or under year old hook up, just for a physical realationship, then I have a problem with that (as i knew one girl who was 15/16 and she had a one night stand with a 34 year old!) But if you are hooking up for reasons other then just physical apperance, then 19 & 30 is alright if the maturity level of the peoples are the same. Mind you, as moiselles and you have stated and i agree with you two, 21 is the most ideal age.

For my Granny, it worked. She stayed with my Grandpa until he died 22 years ago.

For some odd reason, I keep getting mistaken for someone older then I actually am.

I love it

Really? With me, it's different-people think I am younger.

Some time ago, 2 different people even told me I look like a 14-year-old :|
