I've had Japanese whiskies on my list of spirits to buy. Of the few bottles I've been interested in so far, they have ALL been sold out 
Japanese brands have been racking up awards and high praises by many. Only a given one would buy a bottle after so much high praise 
I shall post the bottle of my eventual choice once I get my hands on one and give my review on it

. Of course, you mentioned that you were born around where Dickens was, but still a small line in a fat book anyway 
! Speaking of the U.K. and books, could you by any chance (in case you're a fan of any) vouch for any Pride and Prejudice movies? I like the book, but haven't been able to bring myself to choose one of the many screen adaptations.

If I recommend any, it would be the 2000(ish) version of Mansfield Park which I rather enjoyed but didn't get much fanfare at the time. Emma Thompson's Sense & Sensibility is good too - with a pre-annoying Kate Winslet, before she turned into an awful caricature of how British actresses are supposed to be in Hollywood.
