Dang, everytime I update the list it looks more and more like the spammers' posts.
Is there anything we can do to stop them besides deleting their posts/topics? Because they're finding a way to make all of these accounts. This has gotten way out of hand. ![]()

^ I agree. Until something can figured out, a 2 pronged approach seems best. I know that several of us mods keep furiously deleting and disabling posting ability on a daily basis. But I am not sure if the second prong is as active .... administrators banning. Perhaps banning is going on without my knowledge. Would be great to get some reassurance from an administrator that it is.
Perhaps a temporary solution is to give Mods the ability to BAN spammers (vs. just deleting and disabling posting) as well. Just a thought.

Could someone ban Musstolla? I just binned a dog sex video post of his. Gross!

Suspended jenthecdn's posting abilities for five days for spamming. Might want to ban him as well.
Sorry I was MIA for 2 days, terribly sick. But look at what a gift i got on my return. a slew of new spammers. What Fun! - yes, sarcasm.
Anyway, here's two more for ban:
ictretetee, adultgirl

Wonder what is going on, guess they fuond out how to crack recaptcha or something. I shall try to accelerate the IPB3.1 migration as that has a community spam ban feature where if they find IPs/spammers in another community that uses IPB it auto bans in ours as well and has a question/answer part for registration which prevents bots from signing up (well anything is better then nothing i suppose.)

Found it. Sure enough google recaptcha has been cracked
A few days back in vbulletin

And from IPB itself :S
We thought everyone might find a few statistics from our Spam Monitoring Service interesting. Since the rate of spam registrations has greatly increased since the first of the year we are of course seeing greater activity on the service.
All stats are since 1 January 2011 to 13 January 2011.
* The spam service has processed 300,000 requests and the rate is accelerating as more people are activating the service since spamming has increased over the last couple weeks.
* About 30% were marked as spam accounts and therefore prevented from registering on IP.Board's that use the service. This is of course a much higher percentage then even a few weeks prior to the influx of spam registrations.
* The service has "learned" from the activity and permanently black listed about 5000 emails and IP addresses.
* Of those the service blocked, about 10% were due to IP.Board administrators and moderator using the "flag as spam" feature which tells the service that an account is from a spammer. So keep reporting!
It's our hope that Google's reCAPTCHA service will soon be improved. In the mean time be sure to follow the tips in our announcement to prevent spam registrations.
We can never 100% stop spam but our Spam Monitoring Service is another tool to help prevent registrations from impacting your community. The service is a free IPS Extra for anyone with an active IP.Board license or IPS Community Hosting client.
Wow, great news maddog. nice to see there is an end in sight.
I could recommend maybe not all mods, but maybe a select few - SuperMods? idk - can have the ability to ban? So you and PC don't have to do it all.
BTW, 2 more expapeQuima, CasparStuart
Caspar was wierd, one post was a random model/actress bio
But then the next was some weird thing about morpher downloads and stuff. So i deleted his download post and am adding him to the list.

For excessive spamming suspended posting abilities indefinitely; recommend banishment

I feel so bad for being away for such a long time
I feel like I have let BZ down, but i am back and hopefully we can get all these little issues taken care of.
I have no problem promoting some mods to admins as most of the admins are not around much anymore. Perhaps we should remove Capt Snow (last seen 2nd November 2008 - 12:18 AM) and Jimmy (29th August 2008 - 01:37 PM)?
From what I saw in the control panel I couldnt see anythign where I coudl give you the permissions you need without giving you admin privs. So any suggestions on who would like to be admins? Since its just Pinky, Ronin and I, probabaly the current mods can vote as well.

^ Good idea. I nominate Lady Fatale, SympathysSilhouette, and Joe>Average, to replace the inactive administrators.
