I try to go there at least twice a year. Altough I'm stying at my friends' place I always try to pay the full rental place. They don't have much money and while I'm staying in the house they can't rent it to tourists and I don't want them to loose money because of me. It's a different matter when they're on holidays and I'm taking care of the whole place. So I would visit much more often if I had the money or they more holidays It's not really far away from Hamburg, about 1 and a half hour. It's almost within the forest, it's a tiny village with 8 houses surrounded by fields on one side and forest on the other part of it. So you get out the door, walk about 10-20 metres and there begins the forest. You see the lanes on the pics so it's not really a 'jungle' or anything, sometimes you'll find a corn field in the middle of it or some workers who are getting timber out of it. But most of the time you don't see or hear anyone. In all the years I've been travelling there I've seen only one jogger, some older woman with a dog, but she didn't greet, and an army troop* whom I ignored for I've never felt comfortable with "officials" while having my dog unleashed which is not allowed. But hell, I'm in the middle of the forest for god's sake, she's not a hunter, she's a herding dog and always stays at my side ... however, that's been all, I'm never meeting anyone there.

(*There is an army camp at the next big town. I guess they do some sort of training in the forest. At least I can't imagine what they're doing there otherwise, collecting mushrooms perhaps )

I've read in some other thread, can't remember where right now, you and your boyfriend (?) got a house in the forest? Though it really sounds lovely, I'm glad I'm having water in the house and a loo and a shower. I guess I'm too prissy ... I don't mind having no central heating, I love heating with the fireplace. Wood makes such a soft and almost physical kind of warmth. And I love the smell of it ... okay, the only thing I hate is waking up in the morning to find out I didn't woke up during the night to keep an eye on the fire. The house isn't isolated very well so it's frigging cold in the winter. But usually I wake every few hours right on time to rake it again. And it got a lot better once I discovered coal briquets to keep the 'glow' over night.

Hy, I'd been so lucky this year - it wasn't really cold during the winter holidays, maybe some 5 degrees at night and up to 13 during the day. Right now it's freezing here, I would've died in the little house with the cold eastern winds blowing through every gaps

Before I forget it, here's a video of two contestants of a recent casting show here in Germany, "The voice of Germany" - who's coming up with those names ... <_< ... anyway I think it's a pretty good cover!

I can teach you French any time

Or you have her

?

"Tais-toi, Français?"

I though Germans were learning French at school? All the Germans people I met were speaking a flawless French.

The French grammar is super tricky for u I guess because u are using the verb at the end of the sentence in German, no?

(I might be wrong )

It all sounds so beautiful and you´re really a kind hearted girl I see through the years, have you seen lot of animals there or not? I mean deer, wild animals... btw herding dogs are just gorgeous, I love this breeds.

And I know exactly what you mean with the mornings in the cottage in Myjava we heat with wood (2 stoves, one oven) so one really is busy with heating through the day... at night it´s the best to heat with old oak or beech wood (hard as rock) - it tempers the place the best and holds on for hours. Luckily the cottage is perfectly isolated - it´s an old building (more than 120 years) from unburned bricks, and its walls are 1meter wide, so it keeps the temperature very well.

I need to take new pics, hm.

as for the house in the forest, it´s a small timber hut

that we´ve built with out friends and take care of. There is one fireplace, one oven... we take water from a well few minutes of walking away (down the hill with empty jerrycans, up the hill with full ones ). I love the place, really much

I'm glad as well - I've missed so much! Can you imagine, I haven't been able to see all collections from the latest season yet, I feel terribly uninformed ... ... Of all times I get a major crash during fashion weeks, biiiig joke, muarharhar <_<

I hope all is well with you? Thanks for posting the pictures of your cottage, it looks so cosy! And the hut is so cute! Almost looks like taken directly from a western movie, do you know the serie "The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams" from the late 70ies (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075525/)? I used to watch it with my Mum. He was living in the forest in a wooden hut ... I loved it for he was gitedt with animals and they used to show a bit of their living and habits.

Do you spot animals in the forest? Beside some deers running away and a fox in the far I've never seen anything. Okay, I'm not keen on meeting a - whatsitcalled - boar (?), a wild pig? But I would love to see some more foxes or a badger, that would be cool! On the other hand I'm always with my dog and I don't think she would be much amused by meeting some strange animal ... and I guess the animals wouldn't be much amused themselves ... also most of the time I'm using the small passages and lanes and don't go right through the woods for a) I don't want to disturb anything and b) I don't want to get lost. I got lost one time, although I did stay on the lanes, lucky me my dog knew the way home - and I knew how to explain it to her that we want to go back home But that's definitely something I don't want to experience again, it was rather frightening. So with me staying on lanes it's rather unlikely I will ever spot anything ... ... But at least I'm save :-D

Yeah, domestic dogs don't usually react well to wild animals it seems . You might spot something one day though .
