Khe Sahn not so much to be honest, although I know it is for a lot (most?) of Australians. Not really sure why, but it just never ingrained itself into me. Eagle Rock though, sure (Y)

I'd put these in the same category too - not sure how well known they are internationally.. maybe the Men At Work one. Do you know these?

Have you read the book? I have no idea about it. The remake is completely unfunny, and serious. But Kate Beckinsale is so good looking. :-)

Yeah, TR '90 was loosely based on a short story by Philip K. Dick called 'We Can Remember It For You Wholesale', which I read as a teenager. I'm not always one for reading everything by a particular author, but I'd just finished 'Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?' (which of course was cited as the main inspiration of 'Blade Runner') and I decided to dip into a book of his collected short stories afterwards. Basically, Douglas has false memories of some exciting adventure on Mars implanted, but while working on him, they uncover real memories of him actually going to Mars and getting involved in something top secret. There are layers of real memories suppressed and false memories implanted, and consequently, there's so much going on in his mind that he becomes unhinged. Perhaps appropriately, my memories of the story's finer points are a bit vague these days, but I really enjoyed it at the time.

^Both of them leave me cold actually. And they'd have to bloody go some to be halfway as hot as Sharon Stone in the original...

Sharon was a stunner. Actually, nothing from this "new" TR is as good as the original was. Which is ironical, because today they have so many possibilities, new technologies, everything, and they create THIS?

I need to watch the original ASAP. Oh Arnie.... no one says "Shit" like you

I would love to read that story - never knew it even existed

I have a question don-how popular Daniel Merriweather is/was in Australia? He's only released one album so far, but I heard he's popular in the UK but not in his native country.

I'm not really sure to be honsest.. I don't exactly have my finger on the pulse of what's popular. I certainly know of him though. It's not really my sort of music, but he's got a pretty good voice based on what little I've heard of it

Are you a fan?

The Hunters & Collectors one too! I'd forgotten that one. I just find it funny when these songs come on and Aussies suddenly appear to drunkenly sing along and get overly emotional. Everyone I met seemed to know all the words to Khe Sahn and would carry on as if they were in exile from their homeland... I suppose in Argentina we all get misty-eyed over some Carlos Gardel tango, but that's almost akin to you singing Waltzing Matilda - and UK music (I guess) is just that more universal that it's more difficult to find a famous song that nobody outside the isles would know?

Yeah I suppose so. I've been trying to think of one, but I guess if I knew it, then it wouldn't be one

It's kind of funny how people think of Waltzing Matilda as our 'unofficial national anthem'. Stealing sheep and suicidal escapes from the law are what made this country great salute_aus.gif

I've always found this little tip of the hat to the song intriguing, by my man Tom. No one can make you want to drown your sorrows in a bottle of scotch quite like him

No one says anything quite like Arnie.

And +1 to Stone and her 80s leotard :brows:

^Ah, the wonderful Mr. Waits...

Scariest song ever?

^Although he's not much to look at (for me, anyways!) - so I think, since it came up, it would be apposite to post this slice of a young Baron's ahem formative recollections:

My goodness, I missed a bunch of responses here. My 'junkyard thread' took up all the Bz time..!

Any requests from you guys?

It's been a while since I've seen it, but yeah it was very good. I don't even remember Farrell in it

I'm not really fussed about him either way, although I did like Phone Booth a lot.

I've only seen Biel in a handful of movies. I wouldn't say she was a particularly good or bad actress.. she's just kind of there. But, I find her much easier on the eyes than Beckinsale - I find something really off-putting about her, but I'm not sure what

Thanks for the link too, but I'd rather wait than sit through a cam

Beckinsale speaks American english rather obviously, but I do love her voice, and her profile. She does have very strong, chiseled features yet she's sexy and not remotely manly looking in the face.

What about Amyleine (spelling)? I think she's strong looking like Beckinsale. How is she different?

You're going to watch the film?

I don't think so, I don't ever remember anyone telling me I resemble any particular celebrity... I wasn't happy with that in my early teens but now I'm more than happy with it

To be honest, I had to google some of the names I recognized Kathrin, Viktoriya, Ymre and Anna (obviously).

Ah, so I am catching up with you

Sorry for the late response! I wish I got back to you sooner. Do you enjoy being a beautiful woman, Layla? With all its peculiarities, benefits, and alternate decision trees....

Are you interested in neuroscience and the sciences of memory? I know a little. Overall, It's one of those subjects that I intend to tackle some day for my personal benefit. I'd like to understand memories better than I already do.

Colin Farrell would probably be a pretty interesting person to party with. That's the impression I get from every single performance.

I posted Edita/Flavia compilations for you in the Junkyard BTW...

Yeah, I have seen Minority Report, but long ago I usually love movies with Colin in it. Phonebooth and Heart´s War, both great... I think he´s a great actor, just like you said, always kinda playing himself

I have the same opinion on Kate as you. I find her extremely attractive and not the worst actress, but also not the best either. I loved her in Underworld though - she played Selene well.

My feelings about Jessica Biel are ambivalent, but more negative than positive. Just no for me

And the story was more than poor. It was rather non-story

Flavia is gorgeous, just as is Edita both appeal to me really strongly.

Have you ever met women like those? I mean, in your personal life? I guess one does not meet such stunners on a daily basis

I have a close relative that's has done a lot of modeling and I've met models in my life. I dated a HF model before. None of them have the kind of status that the women on this forum have, though. I can get a message to Caroline Winberg if I wanted to through a contact but I don't know her personally. The 'model' I know best is a woman who was with NEXT models and briefly with ELITE, she worked on and off for three years and managed get an art business capitalized via outside investors. She runs her own shop now- it's a little place in Greenwich village that curates and consults. She has connections a mile long, and lives a glamorous life. She looks like a mix of Erin Heatherton and Anna V.

Fun fact: Total Recall is directed by Kate B's husband, and Kate B. stars in most of his movies, LOL.

Otherwise, Kate B would probably have an even lower status as an actress.

I remember her from the Aviator- she was onscreen for a short period of time, and managed to be incredibly seductive. I think she looked her best in 'Pearl Harbor'- It's an insult of a film, but she was very beautiful all throughout. It also helps if you like nurses, because she played an ultra-nurse in a hospital wing that looked like it was staffed with former beauty pageant winners and models...

Aymeline

Yeah, she does have very strongly defined features (and indeed, I've heard people say she looks quite masculine), but I've never really considered Kate to be of that mould at all - I thought she had softer features

'On paper' Kate is quite attractive, but like I said, there's just something about her that I don't like and I don't know what it is. This is going mainly off pictures, since I've barely seen her in anything before (maybe one or two movies) - maybe I'd warm to her more with greater familiarity.

And yeah, I might even go see TR this weekend <_<
