^WHAT?WHAT?WHAT?From what I've been reading, it seems the above Robocop image is just one of about half a dozen suit transformations. The first one is going to be something akin to the original 80s style armour, which will be ridiculed and labelled as outdated and clunky (to the delight of long term fans, I'm sure
), while the final one will apparently be similar to (gulp) a Transformers robot. My guess is that the insect-like get-up will pop up in the middle.
Hmmm, different outfits for different occasions,
, sounding less RoboCop, more Centurions - POWER EXTREME:
:baronlamesign:

^Holy repressed memories Baron, I actually used to watch that show. Even had the doll action figure of the motorbike guy. ![]()

^Don't ever let 'em call those things dolls, Michael* - they're ACTION figures all the way:
And too think those thick moustaches weren't considered gay at all back then... Not that you could ever think those rampantly heterosexual alpha-male Centurions were 'light on their loafers':
Ace even pulls off that 'difficult silk-scarf look'...

The memories are flooding back now - Doc Terror, Hacker, Rex Charger (as played here by Chuck Norris, it would seem). The fey silk scarves and overt chauvinistic gestures went over my head at the time, though. ![]()
While we're on the subject of commercials aimed largely at kids, I think this one may be my favourite. Reminds me a bit of David Byrne in Talking Heads' 'Once In A Lifetime' video. ![]()

I just 'speed-saw' Dredd (watched 50 minutes of the 90 minute cam). The movie is structured like a typical Judge Dredd fable, and the film doesn't aim higher. It's not bad or particularly good-but there's a lot of clever ideas and black humor in it. It's budget was low for an action film, and it showed. The villain was average and Urban's co-star was miscast. Karl plays the judge just fine and 100% like the comic book character. However, the writing and the characterization of the judge was lacking. Not enough witty remarks and insights. Anyway, a key attribute of Dredd is the fact that it doesn't depart much from the character created from the comic. Like the comic, Dredd is a fascist that executes criminals and administers the law in a global slum. And like the comic, neither is his face shown nor is his past revealed.
So I've seen that Dredd is doing well at the box office. Plans for the sequels will probably go through.
Dredd reminds me of 'The punisher' movie, but except for the fact that it's better. However, there's of course a lot of unrealized potential in creating this world. The ideas are there, but the technique must evolve come Dredd 2 so a good film can come out of it.
So my preliminary assessment would be that it's a 3 out of 5 star movie (around the same score that I gave to the Avengers).

I'm not at all educated in the Dredd universe, but I've only heard good things about the movie so far. Might wait for the DVD though, since I'm not massively taken with seeing movies in 3D.
Don!
How are you?
I finally have internet at home, I go on BZ and what do I see? Don creation's everywhere!
Oh lord, I hope not! There are certain movies that are practically crying out to be remade - I mean, I've always thought something like Cleopatra comin' atcha (to name one) would warrant another outing, since a grittier tone would be more suited to it's themes of betrayal, love and war - but I shudder at the thought of childhood favourites like Goonies, Ghostbusters or Back to the Future being 'updated' one day.
I know nothing about Judge Dredd ![]()
Cult, out of interest, if the new one gets a 3, what did the Stallone version get?
Some of my favourite images recently ![]()

Also, this is one of the most extraordinary VS shots I've ever seen. Kind of weird too, being that it's a catalogue shot with the product they're selling out of focus in the background. But really, who cares ![]()

Hi Danni ![]()
How did you even survive without internet at home? ![]()

Iron Man had a cool arc with Stark's suit designs, starting with the clunky one he knocked together in the cave, then to the Mark II prototype and eventually the Mark III that he wore for the rest of the movie. Going through six reincarnations just sounds greedy, or indecisive on the part of the filmmakers. I suppose it's all just speculation until we know more
It's all rumour at this point of course, but thinking about it now, six does sound like a lot doesn't it? Assuming that the movie’s running time is somewhere in the vicinity of two hours, it could work out as one transformation every 15-20 minutes, which would eat up a huge chunk of whatever narrative they go with. ![]()
That’s a lovely shot. Bregje has really been growing on me these past few months. Minus points for being in that ridiculous Maroon 5 video, though. :persuazn:

I never saw it. The Stallone version is supposed to be pretty bad!
Yeah, Dredd ’95 was pretty awful. It wasn't completely without potential (Stallone certainly looked the part and the opening scene depicting the cityspace was great) but it was let down by a catastrophic script, much of which Sly allegedly commandeered. Everyone spent the whole movie talking in cliched catchphrases, trying to hold their stomachs in, or talking in cliched catchphrases while trying to hold their stomachs in. ![]()

Stallone does look ALOT like Dredd- in fact his outfit was picture-perfect. Karl Urban's costume was designed to be less symbolic and more practical.
The new Dredd comes across as being influenced, as least stylistically, by Fincher's 'Fight Club'. This is a definitively a good move, but I felt that Dredd was constrained by low budget so they had to limit the story to events that happened in one apartment complex. Like most big pictures, it's 50 M budget was mostly marketing costs, and there was little left for production. But the entire concept has a lot of promise, and a Dredd 2, with proper funding and direction, may be a real winner.

The '95 Judge Dredd "starred" Rob Schneider. That's all that needs to be said...

Ah yes, after being sentenced to life in solitary confinement, Sly chooses instead to go on the run with Rob Schneider's character and helps keep him alive. A fate much worse than anything the courts could dish out, surely! ![]()

^Never fear - JCVD gets in a couple of roundhouse kicks nonetheless!Donny, have you watched the Expendables already? I still have not
no time
No, me neither
I've heard JCVD does disappointingly little in it, which kinda sucks. I used to love his movies.
I'm really itching to see Moonrise Kingdom too
I think it must be written in to his contract. What's funny about it is how incredibly old they all look. And Arnie was never the best actor to begin with, but in his time off 'governing' he's clearly forgotten anything he might have learnt first time around.
Moonrise Kingdom is an absolute joy. I loved it. Bruce Willis is a rum one isn't he? He appears in a lot of tosh showing a wide range of acting faces (re: 'smirky' face, 'frowny' face, and occasional 'batshit crazy' face when things are exploding around him), and yet he can turn in a fine performance like he does in this.
It seems I need to see this Moonrise Kingdom - I haven´t even heard about it ![]()
I´ve always considered Bruce Willis a great actor - and I don´t even know why, because he mostly just seemed to play himself - but then again, himself was always so freakin´ cool that one could not help but be smitten with him! And then there comes a role suddenly that shows him in absolutely different light, and in these cases I´m like "I told you! He´s a great actor!"
I just seriously LOVE Bruce Willis
he´s one of the few actors that could just look at me and I would faint and won´t be even embarrassed for it.
Still haven´t seen Expendables though. But in all those crazyness around recently it was impossible to go anywhere then just home. Sleep. Lots of sleep.
Feels great to be here again ![]()

donny! I've got tickets to see Port Adelaide vs. Western Bulldogs in London at the beginning of Nov. Not sure if it'll be 'first team' or not, but the AFL do this quite regularly here - but the first time I've been here for it (it's never happened in Argentina!), and the first "live" game I'll have seen since I was in Australia. Really looking forward to it, might dig out my Carlton guernsey and stubby cooler! Sadly though, I doubt they'll have meat pies... ![]()
