^I didn't watch the whole rock of ages.....I rented it, got 10 minutes into the movie then turned if off And yes, Moulin Rogue is my only favorite musical. Though I haven't seen Chicago yet..and that was supposed to be good But as you sound like me, hesitant to get into musicals, I say this one you should give a shot I though it was beautifully done, and its definitely got the Baz Lurhman trademarks As I mentioned as well, besides doing the tango to "Roxanne" by the Police they also do other songs like "Like a Virgin" and "Your song" by Elton john So I absolutely fell in love with the soundtrack

....Someone who doesn't know me well enough....

The Bread machine is about the size of a microwave, and it skips the labor intensive steps of the process as one only needs to insert the inputs. The dough is kneaded by the machine itself.

Unfortunately, the bread isn't very good so the whole machine doesn't really have much a point..,,The texture of the bread is very rough (in fact, too rough for me to want to eat it), and the bread is very thick even with adjustments to the ingredients. In any event, bakery bread is....hardly rare..!

I don't know what your question means exactly?

Chicago is that other famous one. You know, the thing with musicals is the fact that they seem to be out of vogue right now with the general public...check out this list: Most of the famous musicals are very old (I've seen them when I was very small, and basically forgotten them..):

http://en.wikipedia...._Movie_Musicals

Musical theater comes across as being not really that popular, although there are shows like 'Glee' that have done well. :-/

Really? It seems to me that most boys dream about being professional athletes, musicians, and actors...or something glamorous and sexy, rather than something that is unrewarding and disregarded.

At the core of it, I believed that, in the face of objective reality, privilege confers responsibilities due to one's impossibly numerous connections with the past. The baby drops out of the womb owing a great deal to those that came before in recent history, and to those that labored hard, suffered horribly and died. Whether one is capable of grasping these myriad connections is often doubtful...as it requires deep education and a sense of history... but they should try if they have any sense of honor and self-respect. It is the only honest way to live.

So, with this in mind, the baby has not proven itself worthy of being alive yet!

I also believed that heroism is defined by people who release themselves from their baser instincts, and pursue goals. of maximum impact, that serve others than themselves. It must serve an idea. And that the price that is to be paid must be steep: It is Death! And by choosing death- whether to work to death over a lifetime or to die in violent action- is ultimately the means where a person can express themselves as a higher class of humanity and perhaps even achieve an impact.

So there is duty and whether or not one should recognize the nature of its existence. If a nation's armed forces, and its political will cannot allow the duty to arise, then one who participates in such an organization no longer serves humanity or the prosperity of a nation, but rather those of self-serving special interests.

So this is the paradigm that I had within me as a boy. I was taught this. So those who shirk from heroism (and just in the military but in other fields, most obviously space exploration) and do not sacrifice themselves (which is of course, the great majority of people, including myself) are in a sense, lessor people. So, as a boy, I was attracted to the military and engineering, because I saw in this a higher concentration of heroes than elsewhere in society.

So you really wanted to be a hero? To make a difference?

I had longed to be accompanied by heroes, rather than be a hero myself. My uncle the physician is, in certain ways, a hero and living with him for a summer influenced my understanding greatly. I had the chance to be with an abnormally self-less (rather than typically selfish) person and I saw how he lived, thought, and behaved. And how different he was from ordinary people.

When I was little I dreamed about many things - but I have always been connected to animals more than to human beings. So, naturally, I dreamed about being a vet. But as time went by, my concentration evolved around languages and translating and I still find it as a very creative thing to do. There were times when I wished to make a difference - those times are mostly over. I still think about it a lot and try to live an honest life and help both animals and people whenever I can, the other times I cannot be more selfish, craving for a solitary life without people. The ultimate goal is to live a happy life (while harm the others as little as possible) and I find my hapiness in creating and building.

But, honestly, sometimes non of it makes sense at all. Like now.

Do you still visit your uncle?

Do you think that being accompanyied by heroes would make someone a better person? And, on the contrary, that being accompanyied by selfish people would make somebody behave the same way?

I am a very greedy person on my own specific terms, and I don't at all want to be a 'hero'. Ever. I will never impale myself for anybody or anything.

Being a great person...by its nature requires total sacrifice. That's what I learned from living with my uncle. It was the 'definition' of a selfless person. And I haven't seen my uncle in 12 years. As I remember, he was a exceptionally generous person. Generous with both his efforts and his money. When I left his 'bachelor's pad', he put $20,000 in my pocket and sent me on my way.

What made him heroic was the fact that he sacrificed the whole of his emotional life for his patients and his duty to his fellow man. One could see it in his habits and his monk-like/austere living space. He was anti-materialist and anti-self; essentially he lived outwards, and served others. He saw himself as a global citizen, and could speak several languages fluently. But I can't help but wonder if this goal to serve humanity blinded him towards other promises in life. He did not seem all that happy, but rather burdened. He never married or really upgraded his material possessions, and much of his earned income went into gifts. His responsibilities to others diverted him away from fulfilling his own happiness, and naturally this is not only governed by reason, but also instincts.

So when I compare him to your typical luck-of-the-draw philanthropic wannabees/resume-boosters who party much and sacrifice little.......well, these status-seeking impostors fall very short.

I was thinking about this one for a longer time. There are strong characters, leaders, on either side of the coin. There are followers, who just adapt to whichever side it is more appropriate for them. I know it´s far too complex for a simple discussion, but I think there must be something inside of us, not just "role models" around us... you know, they say that every little kid knows good from wrong. But how difficult is to characterize good, and wrong. We are mostly born the same way and brought up very differently. However, every one of us has its own free will.

I think, the basic of everything is to think about things. People who follow mostly miss this character. They don´t think. They don´t ask questions. Just follow. It´s the most easiest thing to do.

^

This sounds vaguely 'Randian', haha. You're right, it's far more complex than that. There are no romantic heroes, magical leaders, or genius supermen: There are people who take big risks, and there people who are more risk-adverse. The majority of those that take big risks drown in a pool of sweat and blood, but the few reach the other side thanks to a combination of effort, institutional-systems-organizational backing (in our world, it's venture capital, major contracts, corporate backing, or universities......)and decisive good luck. And it's sales and marketing in the end! Society is not simply a mass of individuals. :-)

The matter is, that sometimes I stop and ask myself "Could I not do something...more?" I watch lots of documentaries with people helping animals and caring about them. I would love to do such thing - but there are no wildlife sanctuaries in Slovakia as there are in Africa or South America. We don´t need them - for now. I could (if I really wanted) to leave this place and go for a voluntary work, but I´m not going. I have a life here that is too worthy for me to leave. I feel selfish in such occasions, and I know I am.

That´s what worries me. I would love to do something that really makes difference, at least the smallest one. I care about nature as much as I can, but I still find it not enough. I want to teach my kids the same, once I have them. I have this urgent feeling about this whole thing... and at the same time, I feel powerless.

So you would help animals over people?

This is a remake of a BBC show, which was very good and won lots of domestic awards back in the '90s. But you Estadounidense aren't happy unless you've remade it...

^Personally I much prefer Manhattan, which is far more grandiose yet intimate (and has Allen's best emotional soliloquy at the end) - plus Diane Keaton can be grating in large doses, and she's not in this quite so much! After that maybe What's Up Tiger Lily? which is silly frivolity, with Allen over-dubbing a '60s Japanese spy movie absurdly! I do like Annie Hall a lot though.

^Saw this today and thought of you, it's by (the hair-stylist) Leon Gorman - posted this week but from an old shoot:
