Yes, all loosely connected setpieces in TDKR really took me out of the film ![]()
Did you see Django unchained?
I found this quite funny.
Adam Sandler @ 1:50
^No, not yet. It's not out til the 23rd here. Have you?

It used to be a dream of mine when I was younger, but now I don't think I'd love to have so much land... I'd like to have a house/apartment with just enough space to eat outside when it's warmer and maybe a bit of land to grow a few fruit trees and flowers.
And what would the matter between your ears be like by then?
This reminds me of a news I read a few days ago. The chairman of stock exchange was involved in financing a movie in which his assitant, and real-life loverplays. And it is investigated whether he could do that? Cause he sent e-mails to some companies from his stock exchange e-mail. he said he did it as a private person but still, it is fishy... cannot explain you more as I don't know the case that well. But his lover, before she became his assitant worked as a model. From being a model, to working as an assistant for the stock exchange's chairman as her first serious job? And then working for Ernst&Young. Interesting...
You know, I saw this too. She's very beautiful isn't she? The master, that is. And the slave? He didn't even have to be a slave, he just allowed himself to become one........Now, I'm sure that he's wishing that his infection, this 'slave syndrome'...
...never existed.
It's not always easyAnd I guess I do

I'm surprised Mattel didn't make the list
.
^Poor Valentina will pass out from the wafts of meat ![]()

Yes I have. Also, I've written about it in the 'movies' forum. PS the dvd screener is on the web now..
I also have, but didn't watch:
-Anna Karenina 2012
-Cloud Atlas
-Life of Pi
-Les Miserables 2012

^Still very annoyed 3D isn't working for me... ![]()
Actually I'm off to the cinema this afternoon though. Can't decide between The Hobbit, Les Mis or The Impossible though. ![]()
Barbecue round at yours?
BBQ...I love BBQ's
Hopefully I shall get the invite. Question now is...shall I have a leg or breast?

So Cult, saw in the Acedemy Awards thread that you've never seen Whats eating Gilbert Grape..I'm not just saying because I love leonardo dicaprio or anything like that
But really really excellent movie, very indie, very realistic, very dark, very eerie but with a light sentimental touch to it. One of Depps best movies, and by far one of dicaprios best performances playing a mentally challenged teen. Make it your next rent

Just me, but I'd role with Les Mis ![]()

^I ended up seeing The Impossible. Geez, that was a bit harrowing!
About 2 minutes after the tsunami hit (I don't think that's giving anything anyway?!) I heard some crying and then some people left with their obviously distraught child - WHO THE HELL THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO TAKE A KID TO THAT FILM??? ![]()
By the way, I don't know if it's common parlance or not but doesn't Daniel Day-Lewis sound like Homer Simpson in the Lincoln trailer?

I might go see Life of Pi too - I've head the use of 3d in it is worth a look.

You mean download..
Do you like musicals?
Sounds eerie, given the subject matter...! Thanks.
I mean download
Heres the plot summary...
What's Eating Gibert Grape is a beautifully shot movie of tenderness, caring and self-awareness that is set amongst the fictional working class one street town Endora. Centred around the Grape family Ellen and Amy and their two brothers Arnie and Gilbert, who, along with their morbidly obese widowed mother Bonnie Grape are striving to survive and coexist with the absence of a father figure, low wage work and seventeen-year-old Arnie's severe mental condition. It is in this awkward and extremely one sided affair that the unfortunate Gilbert has to constantly, while working for the town's slowly dying Convenience Store, take care of his younger brother Arnie. Gilbert's life, his future, is thwarted he knows this, but it is in this Guardian Angel that his love and bond for Arnie cannot, and will not, be let go. That is until the free spirit of Becky arrives in town, and with her grandmother are stranded for the week while waiting for parts for their vehicle. This realization unties new feelings, new thoughts and new hope for the put upon Gibert, something new is eating Gilbert Grape.
ITs just a very eerie and akward film.....Brilliant
Have you seen American Beauty? Thats another one I love...its kinda got that weird, sarcastic eerie feeling Gilbert Grape has, and its very realistic, very depressing, but very well done, and makes you ponder about life. American Beauty is actually in my top 5 movies of like all time ![]()
I am not a HUGE fan of musicals or anything...it depends on the musical. Rock of Ages. NO. Moulin Rouge. YES!

Hey guys, if you can check out:
I finally finished my 'big post'. It may or may not be of interest. ![]()

How was the impossible? Worth watching?

I saw American beauty many years ago, and I remember liking it as a satire of upper middle class life.
Kevin Spacey is one of my favorite actors BTW...
I liked him in: 1. K-pax 2. Glengarry Glen Ross 3. Se7en 4. Looking for Richard
Musicals...I just don't understand it. I've been around people that are in to it, and even are enthusiasts and participate in it, but I personally am without a clue! The art just sounds like a very awkward way to tell a story to me...
it depends how its done...Rock of Ages was just done terribly....the singing was annoying, and it was very artistic. Like "lets just sing everything we would normally talk." On the other hand a movie like Moulin rogue I think was different because it was very beautiful film. The special affects were incredible, and it was very magical. They took modern day songs and turned them into classical music....
You know the song "Roxanne" by the Police? Moulin Rogue did a tango version of that song, and it was wonderful, very emotional
That scene is definitely worth a youtube watch ![]()
All this in my opinion of course..

^As a tanguero - from it's beating heart - I concur. That scene was excellent, and I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Apropos of nothing really, that's how I spent Sep 11th 2001 - sitting in the cinema watching Moulin Rouge, blissfully unaware of what was going on in the world. I came out, had a few drinks and finally saw the television about 5/6 hours after the event, missing the whole thing...
Anyway, don't want to bring the atmosphere down, musicals really aren't for everyone so it's probably fruitless to recommend any more. They did film some of Les Mis here in Portsmouth though (the opening dockyard scenes), which will be my next cinema visit I think (closely followed by the finally released Django).

^Musicals require a heavy suspension of disbelief - I don't know, are you equipped to deal with that?!!
I doubt it, and I wouldn't know where to start....so I'd need some musical appreciation training first...
It's likewise with this:

And how the my screenshots were so boring that BZ people didn't even bother clicking on them for a few days..!.Personally, I found them marvelous. There's a massive real-life story behind each and every one of them.
^Did you not see my post above (#169)? It was harrowing. The first two-thirds are, I guess, a pretty good evocation of the speed and ferocity of what a tsunami is capable of and the complete randomness of it's destructive reach; plus the daze and sheer confusion as to what to do next. The final third does lapse into sentimentality, but - and the clue is in the title - it is necessary and they stress at the beginning that this story is true.
You only said it was harrowing...
anyway, I d/l'ed the dvd screener, and skimming through it, I can see how it's fairly unpleasant to watch. It's a natural disaster movie. I'm sure that some people have nightmares that resemble getting washed away by a flood.
Do you like Naomi Watts? I remember liking her in 'the Ring'. She made a second rate story seem much more compelling. She's a convincing actress.

How was Tom Cruise in Rock of ages?
I remember that he even did a related shoot with Edita and Abbey:

^I didn't watch the whole rock of ages.....I rented it, got 10 minutes into the movie then turned if off
And yes, Moulin Rogue is my only favorite musical. Though I haven't seen Chicago yet..and that was supposed to be good
But as you sound like me, hesitant to get into musicals, I say this one you should give a shot
I though it was beautifully done, and its definitely got the Baz Lurhman trademarks
As I mentioned as well, besides doing the tango to "Roxanne" by the Police they also do other songs like "Like a Virgin" and "Your song" by Elton john
So I absolutely fell in love with the soundtrack ![]()

Oh wow, what a way to spend that day.
Just unaware of the horrors going on outside of you.
And going to see Django next? Curious as to what you think of the film after you see it ![]()
