great retrospective on a gaming innovation (Max Payne series circa 2000). I enjoyed Max Payne 2 very much and remember playing it several times. Very good noir story and environmental design.:
The channel has a feature on Max payne 1 and 3 as well.

heard an clever comment about welcoming "new blood" into one's social group:
"Such activists, aware of the isolated nature of their lives, always see new blood as a breakthrough, a sign that they are "winning over others".
"men who have been demoralized ...who lived in expectation of failure....could be bluffed into defeat"
"ethic of complete ruthlessness...could not"

Fearlessness, singleness of soul, the will
Always to strive for wisdom; opened hand
And governed appetites; and piety
And love of lonely study; humbleness,
Uprightness, heed to injure nought which lives,
Truthfulness, slowness unto wrath, a mind
That lightly letteth go what others prize;
And equanimity, and charity
Which spieth no man’s faults; and tenderness
Towards all that suffer; a contented heart,
Fluttered by no desires; a bearing mild,
Modest, and grave, with manhood nobly mixed
With patience, fortitude, and purity;
An unrevengeful spirit, never given
To rate itself too high;—such be the signs,
… of him whose feet are set
On that fair path which leads to heavenly birth!
(Bhagavad Gita)
Here’s to our friendship;
May it be reckoned long as a lifetime,
Close as a second.
Here’s to you, old friend, may you live a thousand years,
Just to sort of cheer things in this vale of human tears;
And may I live a thousand too—a thousand—less a day,
’Cause I wouldn’t care to be on Earth and hear you’d passed away.

Mostly these:
- French novels from the 17-19th century (from the time our country had a lot of vital force and a high ambition, now it's just the shadow of itself...), e.g. Maupassant, Balzac, Zola
- Russian novels (Tolstoi, Dostoievesky mainly)
- Crime fictions (and mostly historical ones), like Sherlock Holmes
- Sometimes, history or philosophy books
And you?
currently
military history World War 2 select topics (Eastern Front, German military, Soviet military, armored and infantry combat).
I tend to have phases, that last a long time where I am really into a certain subject until I learn everything that I want to know about it. Then, I move on to the next thing, and then the next. However, I feel like I'm at the end...not much left that I'm really hungry for knowledge for.
in the past:
"good" graphic novels
psychology, philosophy, sociology, and spirituality
various military topics
economics, management/administration, finance
general interest
political science and 20th century history
asian culture and Mandarin

My favorite soundtracks from the TV show Vikings:

Awesome! This game looks great. I like it already

Dare to be wrong, and to dream.
—Friedrich von Schiller
The arrogance of age must submit to be taught by youth.
—Edmund Burke
May the roof above us never fall in, and may we friends gathered below never fall out.
—Irish

I bet kids would love this game: It reminds me of anime and films like Pacific Rim

Oh, here’s to the good, and the bad men, too
For without them saints would have nothing to do!
Oh, I love them both, and I love them well,
But which I love better, I can never tell.
In the year ahead,
May we treat our friends with kindness
and our enemies with generosity.
Let us resolve to do the best we can with what we’ve got.
May you have enough happiness to keep you sweet; enough trials to keep you strong; enough sorrow to keep you human; enough hope to keep you happy; enough failure to keep you humble; enough success to keep you eager; enough friends to give you comfort; enough faith and courage in yourself, your business, and your country to banish depression; enough wealth to meet your needs; enough determination to make each day a better day than yesterday.
To our differences,
To our common ground,
To what we search for,
To what we’ve found,
To what brings us together,
To what sets us apart,
To our special family,
Which shares one heart.

Here are some suggested words to say during a funeral or wake if you are asked or compelled to speak. Sometimes in somber moments like these, it’s best to recall the cherished memories of a life rather than remorse at its passing:
The best portion of a good man’s life,
His little, nameless, unremembered acts
Of kindness and of love.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
(Revelation 21:4)
Empty your mind of all thoughts.
Let your heart be at peace.
Watch the turmoil of beings,
But contemplate their return.
Each separate being in the universe
Returns to the common source.
Returning to the source is serenity.
(Tao Te Ching)
he death of a dear friend, wife, brother, lover, which seemed nothing but privation, somewhat later assumes the aspect of a guide or genius; for it commonly operates revolutions in our way of life, terminates an epoch of infancy or of youth which was waiting to be closed, breaks up a wonted occupation, or a household, or style of living, and allows for the formation of new ones more friendly to the growth of character.
—Ralph Waldo Emerson

We are not here to curse the darkness, but to light the candle that can guide us through that darkness to a safe and sane future.
—John F. Kennedy
Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.
—Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss)

Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.
—G. K. Chesterson
The ink of the scholar is more sacred than the blood of the martyr.
—Muhammad
The art of living does not consist in preserving and clinging to a particular mode of happiness, but in allowing happiness to change its form without being disappointed by the change; happiness, like a child, must be allowed to grow up.
—Charles L. Morgan
The true aim of everyone who aspires to be a teacher should be, not to impart his own opinions, but to kindle minds.
—F. W. Robertson
The best teacher is the one who suggests rather than dogmatizes, and inspires his listener with the wish to teach himself.
—Edward George Bulwer-Lytton
The young are slaves to dreams; the old servants of regrets . Only the middle aged have all their five senses in the keeping of their wits.
Old age is like everything else. To make a success of it, you've got to start young.

I've heard from knowledgeable people that this is the best (advanced level) one-volume book on the Berlin fighting- I have other books from this author and they are excellent. I'm looking forward to getting this. I have books from Tony Tissler (berlin specialist) but they are more intermediate level /generalist in their details.

The Division 2 looks like the most advanced urban warfare game ever made. I like how they designed it around the ruins of DC. They've come a long way since Freedom Fighters. I wish that a Stalingrad game would be made:

It's a pretty good game, but I don't like the environment either. It would've been better in a historical game (like Stalingrad, you're right) or a futuristic game (like fallout or Metro Last light's style).
