^I guess they have little or no bearing on global politics, so wouldn't be considered newsworthy outside of niche publications...Did you visit an Indian Casino? I've always wanted to, but never got around to it. The situation with Native Americans is ignored in the global press. I rarely see an article in the Economist, Wall Street Journal, or New York Times about native americans and their struggles. The press has a love affair with China and Europe, though.
I did go to a casino too but, outside of my love-life, I'm not much of a gambling man - so it was more of a curiosity thing. I went to Vegas for similar reasons, but did spend an incredibly joyable camp evening watching Siegfried & Roy there!
^Sadly I think reservations have a tendency to lapse into internment camps - and "prisoners" are unlikely to care about their environment...Did you like the food? Sounds quite tasty. These reservations thing always tends to sadden me. But it would not be for the first time that one "race" - or "nation" eliminated the other. There is serious evidence that these things happened regularly even in the pre-historic era, when one kind of -homo eliminated the whole "nation" of other kind of -homo. But I guess most native americans will just mix with the other races absolutely after some time.
But what worries me too... when my father got back from Brasil, he told me that those native "indians" were more like our gypsies than real indians. Like you, B, mentioned that mess in the whole area... he told me the same. Is it really true? And is it like that everywhere? Are there any reservations not touched by our civilization (and is it even possible?). Sorry for silly questions - in advance.
On a happier note, yes, I enjoyed the Native American food. Albuquerque opened my eyes to the joys of Mexican (and Tex/Mex) food too - ah the Frontier restaurant's breakfast burrito, I still dream about that! ![]()

Similar, but not exactly the same...Now I feel like a fool, cause with this description, I should easily guess what were you talking about, but somehow I don't
I mean, I should know 'our' name for it but I don't.
Yes, that's another thing! It's so stupid when you see tv programmes or read magazines which are supposedly for ordinary people (no high-fashion/lifestyle/etc. mags) yet they give you ingredients in recipes which would be difficult to find even in big cities
or even if you find them, they are damn difficult so if you prepare something for the first time, no one can guarantee you a particular (expensive) ingredient won't be wasted.
Don´t worry about it - as soon as it springs to your mind, tell me
or ask parents, they might know.
Yeah, that´s it, lol. Not only are the ingredients expensive and hard to buy, but the preparation itself takes damn too long and still it´s not guaranteed that the final results it´s going to be eatable
but sometimes it´s fine to try new things, some of them are easy and quick. But mostly I stick to the food I know well - and from time to time learn new things, like these pagace recipe - damn, I love them.
Oh, Lay, which is your favourite food?
That's a good idea actually ![]()
This whole recipes discussion inspired me to prepare something new over the weekend
too bad most of the easier&cheaper recipes I've found recently look like something better for warmer weather-I mean, things served cold and/or with lots of seasonal fruit, like strawberries or blueberries.
I love fruits, there are a few exception to the ones I don't like... or maybe more like 'I never choose them when I buy things, but it's not like I hate them that much' you know?
I eat pork and poultry quite often... pastas... rice... pierogi
it would be not so easy to just name one favourite dish.... hmm... still, I'm a picky eater.
btw, are kebabs popular in Slovakia? They've been popular here for some time now. The last time I ate one was such a long time ago though...

Hi Jennka, hi everyone. ![]()
Not been on for a couple of weeks but I saw this on Yahoo.

I guess they do, yes. We call it "guláš"![]()
I like lamb too
but it´s not very common food in here - it´s too expensive and eaten mostly on rare occasions or among the villagers and huntsman. Not regular amongst city people for sure
But cheese yes, and a lot of milk, though in cities you only got the ones from supermarket, but out in the villages you can get to have a real milk from cow or goat, and a real cheese made in home. They taste differently from those bought in supermarket. Much better.
I don't eat cheese or milk- I dunno, I know I'm missing out but I never really got used to it. I've never had goat milk before.
Kebabs are commonly (because it's cheaper) sold on the street. You would need to go into a real restaurant to get real lamb :=)

They shave it off and serve it with rice and vegetables.
Most popular fast foods in Slovakia - McDonalds, for sure. There is no other fast-food that could compete to him, and generally... people here are not very fast-food fans. They rather go to a restaurant or pizzeriaMcDonalds is like... when you like something quick and are not very hungry. Mostly for students.
McDonald's dollar menu is the cheapest cooked food one can possibly get. The homeless love McDonalds. It's literally, for many of them, their dinner table. In New york, there are often homeless people begging right outside of McDonalds for that very reason.
Fast food is usually the cheapest cooked food. When the economy goes south, Fast food sales go up for that very reason. ![]()
Erm, no. They are not higher, but not much lower toobut it depends of course which kind of restaurant and where, and what menu would you buy and so. McDonalds is a little bit cheaper than a regular restaurant, but not that significantly.
Pizzerias here are too considere as the higher end restaurants - but KFC not.
I have heard that in China, KFC is medium-high end. About twenty years ago, it was 'high end'- literally a Chinese factory worker would go to KFC for their holiday meals!!!
Pizza is low-medium end here. 'New York' style pizza is often served. There are medium end dine-ins like 'California Pizza' in suburban malls or high end privately owned pizza restaurants in cities.

So you want to know everything eh?! ![]()
Well i thought i'd start off with what is quite possibly the craziest story ever!!! that happened to me while i was out there.
The City i Live in Wells is a small city. It hosts only a mere eleven thousand people and within the confines of the city centre it has about half a dozen pubs to choose from. So on the weekends you are bound to bump into people you know whether you made plans with them or not. I have a friend called Torz, who i manage to see most weekends regardless if she spends the whole night with us or merely cross paths. Having said that about one month prior to leaving for Bangkok we had not seen each other. This was mainly due to the fact I was saving money and staying at home. It was about two months into my trip that i got to Loas. I was staying in a City called Lurang Prabang. While i was there i met up with some people and on one of the nights we decided to go out for a meal. So as I was tucking into my indian that night with the others and I heard a girl scream €œHarry!!€ I instantly looked up and saw Torz bursting in. I couldn€™t believe it and consequently almost chocked on my chicken ![]()
. Seeing someone you previously travelled with was one thing. However to see a friend from back home in a country as far away from home as Laos was quite another.
How could neither of us not know we were out here is beyond me
but nonetheless a fantastic experience despite it leaving me a little freaked out for the rest of the night. It was great chatting to her and was nice to have a little taste of home. How crazy is that eh ![]()
Anyways the whole experience was amazing. Traveling is the best thing i've ever done and I would recommend it to anybody. Im off next year to Africa to stay at this farm/zoo to work with Leopards, Lions and Jaguars and that kinda thing. I can't wait.
I decided to go on my own in the end. I didn't want to be held back by other peoples desires you know. Just do what i wanted to do. Everyone thinks thats scary but it really isn't. As soon as you are out there you just doing it and you don't think about it. You also meet sooooo many people its crazy. You never have time to think about how crazy the whole situation is haha. Like in the seven months that i was traveling i was on my own for 24 hours at most. Of course that was my decision. If you want time on your own its possible. At times though it was very hard! and I did get down not gonna lie ![]()
It really opened my eyes to the world. I went to places that are so poor!! like Cambodia you see kids as young as 4 years old working intill 1am, its crazy!!
Or people with no limbs begging for money. I know its nasty but you just have to say no cuz, as soon as you give to one you have to give to all and before you know it you would be pennyless
However despite being so poor they are always so gracious and kind. Invite you into their house and give you food. They are just so interested in you haha. I also stayed on some of the most amazing Islands. Like pure paradise. You just can't believe your eyes!!
And on these islands you can go snorkeling. I swam with Sharks, Turtles, Manta Rays and all different kinds of fishes. Its like you are on the set of Finding Nemo ![]()
Also climbed volcanos (which were active lol) and saw the sunrise from the top...most amazing sunrise i have ever seen
Stayed in Jungles too, Jungles that had Tigers, Elephants, Rhinos, monkey's....and other crazy animals.
It was a real person experience, I got exactly what i wanted from it and i have grown in confidence. Its great. Not sure what else to say, i feel bad just telling that stuff. Don't want to be like showing off you know haha
But if you got any questions just ask. I also took pictures if you wanna see them??? - But I will Pm you the link. and you gotta promise me you will just keep it to yourself and that you will see view them while playing this song ![]()
This was like the Anthem for my Asia tour. Its the coolest song and was played everywhere lol. If this song doesn't want to make shake your ass like a Caribbean Chica then you're wired ![]()

Yeah, those are definitely better for warmer seasons
maybe you can make some guláš? ![]()
Kebabs, yeah, they are quite popular - nor like really too popular - but people like them, especially in out-stalls when festivals are held or in the cities... but what is more popular here is for sure "cigánska" - any kind of meat, mostly chicken or pork meat grilled or fried, put in ham with onion and mustard. It´s a typical stall food, very favourite.
I love fruits very much too - and vegetable
do you live alone Lay? Or with parents?

^Sadly I think reservations have a tendency to lapse into internment camps - and "prisoners" are unlikely to care about their environment...I know the aboriginal 'Settlements' of Australia were very much like this, starting out as self-sufficient farms (on barren land <_< ) but becoming some sort of rehabilitation centres for the native population...
On a happier note, yes, I enjoyed the Native American food. Albuquerque opened my eyes to the joys of Mexican (and Tex/Mex) food too - ah the Frontier restaurant's breakfast burrito, I still dream about that!
I´ve read about the Australian inhabitation, but not very thoroughly - it was an article mostly based on different kind of English, talking more about the Australian accent and how the language got mixe with the original one. I don´t know what is the recent situation in Australia like, are there any original nations there now?
I love the word burrito
what it is exactly?

Goat milk is great, and very healthy. People with cancer are often told to drink goat milk - it seems to help in the procedure of healing.

It all sounds so amazing. Really not boasting off, don´t even dare to think like that! I want to hear it all! Vulcanos, sunrise, animals... what more does one want?? Simply whow
you must have fallen in love with that country, haven´t ya?
The poverty thing is really sad - but I´ve heard from my friends exactly the same thing. Same with the children. But it´s always different to hear about it than to really see it - once you see it, it becomes somewhat... more real, more true, more sad. The world is like that everywhere, though...
That story is pretty crazy
but nice at the same time. Lol, I can imagine your faces ![]()
Tell me more about the vulcanos, and the animals! How were they like? How did you feel? Have you ever once felt scared? ![]()
Aaand how about girls??
:D :brows:

btw I love Manu Chao - always had ![]()

Happy Friday Jenks, any plans for the weekend?? And havent seen any new pics of the Abode in a while, how is it coming along?

I don´t even have time to go on my pc at home, lol. And I have them there... but not too much. It´s been going fine, but these next three weeks we are spending in woods in the timber hut.
Happy friday to you too
This weekend - today we´re heading to Chtelnica to help fl´s uncle bring the yeast to the distillery and on Saturday we´re going to woods, yay, finally some time in timber hut with friends!!
How bout you?

well im going on Vacation, yeah for me, spending time with my little hanna, making cookies, going to the park, the libary, basically just good family time, im very much looking forward to it, i remember the camping days, did that with my family when i was a teenager so much fun, we also took a trip with the WHOLE family once a year to cabins, such good memories for me.

I decided to do something with apples ![]()
As for New York style pizza, it's a thin-crust pizza, if I'm not mistaken.
With my parents ![]()

^Actually it means (and how seasonal too) 'little donkey'! But in culinary terms it's a (warmed) flour tortilla with a filling - usually a combination of the various mexican ingredients (refried beans, cheese, sour cream etc...). New Mexico claims the 'breakfast burrito' which has green chile (always!), scrambled eggs, hash browns, cheese, and sometimes chorizo or sausage. And is brilliant!I´ve read about the Australian inhabitation, but not very thoroughly - it was an article mostly based on different kind of English, talking more about the Australian accent and how the language got mixe with the original one. donbot is probably better to ask about current aboriginal issues in Australia - but, yes, they are still there. I lived in Melbourne which doesn't have so many "native" Australians, I think the further north you go the more you see? ![]()

Haha, Well about a week before going up the Volcano, i had met these three girls at the place i was staying at in Kuta.(Bali) Which btw is the craziest place on earth haha.
Its like the party place for the Aussies. There are so many of them there
I had originally planned to leave the next day to go to another Island but that night i spent with them changed everything. I was just having such a laugh with them that i decided to travel with them instead. I mean we weren't just laughing we were littraly on the floor barely breathing laughing
It was like the first time i decided to change my plans for people. Usually I am pretty good with that but this time i made an exception. So after a week with them and we were also joined by to other girls we made our way to the volcano's. Yeah i was traveling with five girls!!! It was good fun but seriously by the end of our time together i could tell you everything about tampons, hair straighteners and George Clonney's penis
Quite frankly i felt i had to leave them because any longer and i would have had my first period ![]()
- Still it was the best time ever!
So anyways like i said after a week of crazy partying in Kuta. We made it to the town called Ubud, which is about a 40min drive away from the Volcano. We kinda felt we needed to do a bit of cultured stuff after all our partying
So the next day we went up up it. We wanted to get there for sunrise, so we had to get up at like 2am!! ![]()
The climb itself took us like hours. It was kinda crazy at times and the higher we got the steeper it got...and by the end we were kinda dragging ourselves up. Which was kinda hard for me because i was still recovering from a dislocated knee that i had done about 3 months before
A whole other crazy story! Managed to do that in a cave on a cliff face
- I mean it was back in place and I had been walking on it for a while but it wasn't very strong and the Doctors probably wouldn't have been too impressed. But i mean you get only one chance at doing these things..if that! So i wasn't going to just give up. Not to mention we all smoked, so when we got up we all treated ourselves to a cigarette
Btw, anyone says its easy to stop smoking while you are traveling...everyone does it and its so cheap. Pretty much impossible to do it...and we were all smoking quite alot together ![]()
Anyways also along the way you could see holes in the ground where its thrown rocks out of the top and left a mark!! Its still active so that made it a little exciting to say the least haha. Nonetheless when we got to the top it was totally worth it. You could see the whole of Bali from up there...which is kinda crazy!!
Here are some pictures i took of the sunrise....and one that i pinched from the internet ![]()
The Animals where pretty cool, I once saw a crocodile in the middle of the road, which was pretty mad! Thankfully i was on a bus so I was safe haha...but still
Being in the jungle was the most magical place i have ever been too...Its called taman negara and it was crazy to stay in a actual jungle with wild animals. And it was so freaking hot. haha Like 35-40 degreases easily! - That was pretty crazy! There is a story about a young women who got lost in the jungle on her own for 19 days!! without any food. To be in there for 19 days with all those Tigers, Elephants, Rhinos etc must have been crazy scary! Happened like a year ago and it made the news and everything.
In Thailand though i got to ride the elephants and bath them. That was pretty amazing! I decided to do some research into which place i should go too. Because i wanted to go to a place where they treated the animals well. I spent a little bit more money but i found a place that takes in mistreated elephants and rescue them. At least I knew my money was going to good use. Feeding them was pretty special too.
Scared? - I'm not sure about scared but there were times were i found myself in not so pleasant situations for sure. I travelled with quite a few girls. In fact always had girls around
So naturally i get protective over them. But to be honest I felt safer out there then i ever do back at home...sounds crazy i know but thats the truth. Its because you are surrounded by other travelers all the time and we are always helping each other out. You trust them so quickly...its mad lol..Because you are doing the same thing and need the same help you kinda know that there aren't going to do anything bad and we all got each others back haha
The girls eh?!
- Well put it this way....So glad i was single
Everyone is fucking each other its crazy
- Guess we are all so happy that we are more likely to do that or something i dunno. Not gonna lie to you. I got quite close to a few of them and saying goodbye is so hard! Thats like the weirdest thing about traveling. Because we all need each other out there. Meeting people out there is like the most intense thing ever. You become so open and so close in such a small space of time. Seriously there are people out there that know me better then anyone does back home...crazy thought but its true. Its like if they don't like you then you can go your separate ways. So therefore opening up becomes easier..makes sense? However saying goodbye then becomes very hard. Especially when its more then likely its forever. I never got use to it and always got emotional leaving them
. But you have too
Anyways i'll Pm you that link for sure
btw I love Manu Chao - always had![]()
Glad you like it! Its so cool....I only found out about him while i was out there ![]()

^Welcome back Nightlife - I've got an image of you now as the globetrotting Nathan Drake from the PS3's 'Uncharted' games. ![]()

I'm not altogether sure why, but once I knew he was a guy I could totally see it. Only in a "on closer inspection, I guess he has a slightly mannish face" kind of way, though - certainly not in a "oh my god that's obviously a guy!" way. ![]()

^ Cheers Michael
- Not gonna lie to you, I had to google that particular character and i'm liking how i've been perceived
Whether i believe it myself is irrelevant
Loving the Avi by the way! When i was traveling through Vietnam. I visited the Capital Hanoi and stayed at a place called "Hanoi Backpackers" Quite possibly the coolest place i've stayed at, well certainly for $5 a night! ha! Anyways. On the fifth floor they had an entertainment room. Which was equipped with Pool table, Table football, PC's, Bar..and a massive balcony with a BBQ. It also had a 42inch HD Tv that had a hard drive attached. This Hard drive must have had at least 400 movies, ranging from the Classics to the brand new blockbusters. It goes with out saying getting out of that place was quite the challenge
Especially when you could order your food and have it brought up to you
As it happened Inglorious Bastards was on it so i finally managed to watch it. And simply loved it. Subsequently the dvd sits nicely in my collection

Amazing stories, Nightlife!!!
Exactly like this with the kebab - mostly on the streets or festivals. Here they often sell it in a ham-roll (ham?) with mustard or ketchup.Goat milk is great, and very healthy. People with cancer are often told to drink goat milk - it seems to help in the procedure of healing.

What is New York pizza style like?
Goat milk helps with Cancer? And I thought eating spinach does !!! :-0
Homeless people like McDonald's and Wendy's. They usually don't sit down and eat there, though.
New York style pizza (like Layla said):

I'm sure that you've had it, right?
