don, Jirka is an amazing artist, check him out here:

http://jirkavinse.wordpress.com/

he started to draw Disney princesses real-life characters

Ooh, nice! I see they're actually photo manipulations though, rather than drawings from scratch. They still look great though - I like the Pocahontas one

Yes, some of them look like photo manipulations, but I don´t think they really are. I´m sure he gets ideas from real life photographs of real people... and I LOVE the Pocahontas one the most

No, they are. He tagged them as 'Photo Manipulation' on his blog, and he talks about it a little in some of the comments

Iraq, but that´s a topic we have already discussed

I know a lawyer who worked in Iraq- told me that it was the worst experience of his life. 'A real hellhole'- that taught him a great deal about how the world really works but his experience features greatly in his nightmares.

I knew a Silver Star holder's (3rd Highest combat decoration) wife a few years ago. Her husband is an Army senior non-commissioned officer (platoon leader) who's job was to basically, hunt enemy soldiers and cells down. He did 3 tours, destroyed many of the enemy, and was wounded 3 times (3 purple hearts). He led so many successful raids that he was eventually awarded the Silver Star and a $20,000 check from the US government...he took this money and immediately bought his wife a sports car.

She also told me, with a straight face, that he enjoys fighting in Iraq, and all of this has been 'wonderful' for him...it brought him real meaning and purpose. It brought her prestige as an 'Army wife'. He is a boot camp instructor for the Army now.

...World's an interesting place, with so many different people and so many different desires....

I'm not a patriotic person, Jennka. I am quite certain of this. I don't even get along entirely with soldiers and ex-military...we have differences.

I have been told from professionals who have conducted exercises with foreign troops that Russian and South Korean special forces are first class. My ex-mentor (former US Marines Corps Company commander, Afghanistan veteran, now in financial services) worked with British troops in Afganistan. But special forces are only one function- specialist infantry, you know? Not overall military systems, technologies, and organizations- like a Marine corps division or predator drone unit. What I was trying to say is that motor infantry...guys in trucks with guns..are devalued compared to previous generations due to precision weapons and air power. But I don't doubt that Russians or anybody else are long on 'bravery' or 'political will' if their nation becomes threatened. Nevertheless, I believe that the future, for the developed world, will be peaceful so all of this will not be an issue.

I consider US/Coalition forces to be 'one military' due to diplomatic ties and the international monetary system. Since the United States is 23%+ of the world economy and spends as much on military as the rest of the world combined..(and twice the GDP % as France, Germany, etc.) other nations can get away with spending considerably less. That's a good deal, right? I do prefer that my government and the Department of Defense spend less of my tax dollars on this stuff. Cut unnecessary appropriations from the budget and so forth.... I can only imagine what an extra 200 billion annually can do elsewhere. Let Britain, France, Japan, and Germany carry more of the load!

So all this American defense spending comes at a cost- unparalleled airlift and sealift capability. Education, organization, Research and development. 11 Aircraft carrier groups.

Off the top of my head..It is true that 'Russia' did most of the fighting and dying in WW2 on the Eastern front..with some 26 mlllion dead. Kiev, Leningrad, Kursk, Bagration, Stalingrad...The United States lost 400,000+ dead on all fronts, including the Pacific. And, in this war,.. the Air war, the naval war, and the development, production, and distribution war was largely American/British & commonwealth dominated.

Russians also occupied Afghanistan at the cost of 15,000+ Russian dead. The US/Coalition has occupied Afghanistan for a longer duration and have lost 2700+ men in Afghanistan so far.

In my study of these conflicts I have largely concluded that Russian ground forces combat efficiency isn't very high, and considerably lower than the US or British Armies. To be blunt, it's largely a consequence of significantly smaller defense budgets. They have to rely on men over 'material'. Russian special forces have enormous esprit de corps and professionalism, and but so do many American soldiers. Even discounting superior organization, scale and scope of equipment, specialized knowledge, technique, and fire support..the experience of attacking a US Marine Corps or first class US Army infantry battalion..since WW1, Pacific, Korea, Vietnam Iraq, Afganistan..has been, traditionally, like walking into a buzzsaw.

Sometimes you sound so. But I suppose I got the whole sentence in the wrong meaning. Thank you for explanation I too hope that our future will be more or less peacefull... really hope so.

It´s so much money, damn. One could think about more usefull using of them, right?

Oh, there are so many tutorials out there, Joe! What do you want tutorial about? Face, body, trees?

I guess what I need first off is step by step without one step being like drastically past the las one . Where I'm looking to start though is with the face. I'm trying to get the little subleties that make a face distinguishable and recognizable that is .

http://www.artyfactory.com/portraits/

this one seems to be a really good tutorial, try it

Interesting... but scary as well. I simply can´t imagine how killing people can become someone´s pride. A purpose. A meaning of his life. Your enemy is someone´s else friend, father, brother, son.

Ok, I know that wars and fight are now the only ones that are really cutting on human population... but I still can´t agree with it. Human race is so intelligent, yet so stupid.

An Indian beer? How does it taste?
^I have to say, when it comes to lager I can't tell massive differences (aside from a.b.v strength). Some artisanal micro-brewers, sure, but I think a lot of it is bullshit about the label... That said, Cobra is noticeably smoother from other lagers.

I heard that Molson has bought the company out - so maybe Limerlight knows the beer too. What are the chances he'll bother reading this conversation and join in?

How's this for photography
^That's just a clip from the film Rango!

about Limey... simple 2% will be too much but I like lighter beers (if that does make sense?) and... I have to admit I haven´t tasted the best beers out there... when fl was in Scottland, they had like meters long bars full of pipes with different kinds of beer.... I call that heaven, damn!

Oh, I know. But when I fight, I feel like fighting an neverending fight... and I grew tired of it. Gisele is "hors concors" or how do they call it... she is phenomenal. I don´t understand another thing too - ok, people don´t have to like her, be her fans or think she´s beautiful, but at least show some respect to the woman... I don´t know if it´s jealousy or just ignorance, but it seems it´s so hard for them to admit her success.

She is the last of the supers.

here's the jist of it

Tangled directors Byron Howard and Nathan Greno will continue the story of Rapunzel (Mandy Moore), Flynn Rider (Zachary Levi), and Maximus, The World’s Most Awesome Horse in the new short film Tangled Ever After. Disney has sent out a press release announcing that the short film will play in front of Beauty and the Beast 3D. In Tangled Ever After, Maximus and Pascal the Chameleon lose the wedding rings for Rapunzel and Flynn’s wedding and have to go on a frantic hunt to find the gold bands. I’m sure it will be comical and cute like the movie, but I think it will be interesting to see how a modern Disney princess movie directly compares to a classic like Beauty and the Beast.

Hit the jump for the press release as well as the poster for Tangled Ever After. The film Beauty and the Beast 3D opens January 13, 2012.

and here is the CUTENESSSSS

^Oh yes, beers can be very distinctive - I just meant 'lager' as a subsection. Telling standard lagers, like a 4% say, Heineken or Coors or Fosters apart... Real Ales, and their distinctive blends of hops and malts used, sure.

One of the finest:

It´s so much money, damn. One could think about more usefull using of them, right?

I pay twice as much for defense-related taxes compared to an equivalent British taxpayer...Many Americans value the military like we used to value the Space Race.

The common person is pleasant and is a 'humanist' at heart. They value life, even to the point where it can become uneconomical or irrational to a 'strategist' mentality.

All 'average/normal' people want to do is to enjoy life as a series of short term amusements, reproduce & raise a family, and own a piece of land. A warrior does not think like that or necessarily want these things. A true soldier can't possible respect any of that very much- in fact they may even find a 'normal' life to be pathetic. They, at the very core, believe and know the underlying fact that human life is meaningless and whatever value is applied to humans and other animals or objects is a matter of subjectivity. This is the basic ethos of the Roman Praetorian, the Bushido of the Samurai, and the ethos of many mercenaries that are working today for private military companies.

That's the difference between 'true soldiers' and the common soldier (often depicted in movies).

True soldiers value their place in history, moving history forward, and fighting to defend or expand the concept of a civilization- Roman Empire, Ming Dynasty, German empire, British empire, America, etc. They will lay down their life for ideas and concepts. There are even professionals (many of them mercenaries) that work in war for the sake of war. They are usually very worldly, philosophical/historical/engineering type people who have a nihilist streak in them. This is why having an all-powerful military class controlling a government is nearly always bad news. They don't value life the way that normal people do.

But I cannot, and will never disrespect military spirit though. Every society needs men and women like this. Just not too many or too little. Having too many or too little is dangerous.

---

I personally know two men that have killed many people as commanders of combat units. My ex-mentor and another Silver Star Holder (Vietnam War). They were both part of elite units as reconnaissance leaders.

The Vietnam War veteran served only one tour in the top 1% most dangerous job in Vietnam and fought in the worst situation possible- cut off and encircled by superior enemy forces. He went there as a newly commissioned 2nd. Lt.- in charge of 40+ combat troops. Only 19 of his men walked out of Vietnam unwounded & alive. He himself was machine gunned by the enemy (ending his career). However, in his final operation, his men clustered their positions with 200+ dead Vietcong, for which he was awarded the Silver Star.

My mentor was a really polarizing character but a real 'mensch'. 24-7.. Enormous work ethic and mental capability..far superior to that of the average person. He was a front-fighter as well- Bronze Star- and was among the first American troops to attack Afghanistan- leading 200+ Recon Marines into the vast unknown. He not only lead, but he even killed several enemy soldiers with his M-14 scoped battle rifle. After his tours, he went to an Ivy league university for grad school and worked as a banker for a prestigious central unit & then, finally demoted to trainer for the bank.

We were active friends for 3 months, and I believe that we learned much from each other from many after-work conversations. But we often disagreed. He was (even after these years in civilian life) never completely in touch with everyday people and everyday life.

Didn't Adriana and Gisele started out at similar time? And they're both Brazilians who work(ed) for VS, so

Jennka, I know that Gisele is the last supermodel and I don't think the model status will change anytime soon (especially if you throw the title 'supermodel' around too often without meaning it.... Bar, Irina... it's like, just because they were 'entered' by famous .... doesn't mean they are ones) but don't you have this feeling like people from fashion industry are trying to make Karlie Kloss a new Gisele? I know there are so many things differing them, but somehow I can see Karlie gaining much more recognition soon. Well, it is sorta happening now...

There is no arguing with those people. But they make fun of Candice fans so much. Lima fans are 100% worse then Candice fans. As long as you stay off Candice's thread they don't care what you say. But say you don't like Lima and her fans stalk you to no end. I don't understand how people can worship someone like that. It's not normal! I love Naomi Campbell but I understand that people don't like her. And I'm not going to stalk them like a mad woman!
