noo, we never do it, nor do I know anyone who does I even forgot about this tradition... is it really Slovak? of course it might be, there are many regions and every region has different traditions different cooking as well

What is traditional at your place?

^Well it was a Slovakian who told me, but she could have just been bullshitting me of course! 17433.gif

As for me, we usually go swimming - but I'm in the UK at the moment, and it's rather inclement for that sort of thing! Last night I went out for a massive curry, at a party for some family friends. They hired out a curry house, and it was a buffet of lots of different dishes. And lots of lager.

Guys, what do you think about Jirka´s new princess drawing - Rapunzel? She reminds me of Amanda Seyfried, which I love, lol

and little bit of Dakota Fanning.

a5esea.jpg

A very strong resemblance to both actresses. I can't believe he wasn't thinking of one or other or both when doing this picture. I'm afraid something about the pose bugs me though. <_< The way the tress of hair she's holding hangs down seems to suggests that it doesn't go far beyond the bottom of the picture. No real sense of the length or volume of her hair.

I bought the DVD of tangled for my daughter (and lets be honest, for me ) for Christmas. I was a little worried that it wouldn't look as impressive on TV as it was in the cinema in 3D but I needn't have worried. It's still one of the most visually beautiful films I've seen in a long time.

i thinki its one of their BESTS in a long time, have you seen the new one called Brave?? if not heres the trailor

This looks interesting and it's nice to hear some real Scottish accents. Is that Billy Connolly doing the narration? I'm sure I recognised some of the other voices too.

I love her eyes and delicate features

Mmm, me too. I love this close up.

Sometimes I wish people would just ride ponnies again with only swords to fight with *sigh*

The longbow and other innovations put an end to that...

I'm glad that 'militaristic' type of feudalism & imperialistic war class/culture is mostly dead in the modern world (West) and unlikely to be revived. Tombstone: 1945..

I've been looking at Ranhild Jevne's and Emily Baker's work recently. Have any of you guys heard of them?

Do you like curry? I´ve never got the hang of it but a good lager can never be bad... I don´t drink it usually, but like it recently I just fell in love with Plzen - Pilsner Urquel. Great beer!!

Tell me more about that swimming thing

It indeed is very, very beautiful film. I even liked it more on TV than in cinema in 3D - I´m not really a fan of 3D movies, I got a headache from it

I like the pic, but there is something missing there... maybe it´s the thing you said, but dunno... I more lack this Rapunzel personality in it, dunno why.

I actually like longbows... it´s a piece of art.

Do you really think so? There are still wars in this world, and hell lot of them (not those huge ones like WWI and WWII, but still) - I don´t think mankind can get rid of it, it´s impossible.

I haven´t heard about any of them... tell me more

I am optimistic. While 'total wars' may continue in the less developed parts of the world.. I really don't believe that that world powers will fight a 'total war'..as in a mass infantry war against other world powers in our lifetimes. There is simply no political will, nor does war industry/military class have much sway or power in Western governments. Germany, Britain, France, China, Japan, Russia and other major countries have minor military capability (even if combined) compared to the United States. Innovations since the 1960s have more and more marginalized the need and operational scope of the infantry. Military spending is @ a very low % of GDP in all leading nations. The semi-globalized but highly substantial international trade, debt, & financialization links all trading nations (politically & economically) together inseparably.

To me, the last 'real war' fought by US/Coalition forces was Korea 1950. However, small, Limited duration occupations like 'Iraq' will continue, but these aren't real wars. Iraq resembles a $100 Billion dollar a year corporate restructuring, re-training, & R&D lab with political/private industry led foreign policy objectives & patronage more than any sort of 'total war'.

I haven´t heard about any of them... tell me more

I just discovered them yesterday! They both have substantial threads on tfs

^It's a general 'tradition' - to go swimming on New Year's Day. I suppose it has some roots in baptism, and being renewed and cleansed...

I always used to go to Mar Del Plata, which is a beach-town a few hours out of the city, where my ex-girlfriend is from. Not so much now! But people just try and swim anywhere, nearby lakes and rivers, the ponds and fountains in parks!

I love a curry - but in Buenos Aires it's not so good, so when I'm in the UK I eat it a lot. Lager is it's 'natural' accompaniment (although I'm more inclined to drink an ale usually). I like Cobra - an Indian beer - with curry. Probably more likely to have been brewed under a motorway somewhere in England nowadays though!

Btw, I thought WALL-E was a beautiful film too.

Ooh, nice! I see they're actually photo manipulations though, rather than drawings from scratch. They still look great though - I like the Pocahontas one

As I see it, people will always fight - if it´s for money or religion, doesn´t really matter... the consequences are still the same.

I agree that the international trade and cooperation between the countries somehow holds them "on strings", but so many things could go wrong that I don´t really believe this kind of state is going to last for too long. But I hope you´re right.

But I would never underestimate the power of Russia, China, Japan or Germany or Great Britain and France... especially not Russia. These are countries with sheer power, military or economically... they have the people, they have the arms, and they have the sources. They have fought more wars than US has ever dreamt of. Sorry if I find the sentence "Germany, Britain, France, China, Japan, Russia and other major countries have minor military capability (even if combined) compared to the United States." a "little" bit patriotic and too exagerated

I don´t agree with the war in Iraq, but that´s a topic we have already discussed

How come I´ve never heard about this tradition? It sounds so cool! Fountains in parks, lol I can´t imagine something like that here - eventhough this years winter is still very mild (from 0 to 7 celzius, we´ll se what happens in February, lol) nobody would make me go swimming

An Indian beer? How does it taste?

Oh, you too? I still have very strong emotions in me from seeing it

Yes, some of them look like photo manipulations, but I don´t think they really are. I´m sure he gets ideas from real life photographs of real people... and I LOVE the Pocahontas one the most

I guess what I need first off is step by step without one step being like drastically past the las one . Where I'm looking to start though is with the face. I'm trying to get the little subleties that make a face distinguishable and recognizable that is .

I'm not a patriotic person, Jennka. I am quite certain of this. I don't even get along entirely with soldiers and ex-military...we have differences.

I have been told from professionals who have conducted exercises with foreign troops that Russian and South Korean special forces are first class. My ex-mentor (former US Marines Corps Company commander, Afghanistan veteran, now in financial services) worked with British troops in Afganistan. But special forces are only one function- specialist infantry, you know? Not overall military systems, technologies, and organizations- like a Marine corps division or predator drone unit. What I was trying to say is that motor infantry...guys in trucks with guns..are devalued compared to previous generations due to precision weapons and air power. But I don't doubt that Russians or anybody else are long on 'bravery' or 'political will' if their nation becomes threatened. Nevertheless, I believe that the future, for the developed world, will be peaceful so all of this will not be an issue.

I consider US/Coalition forces to be 'one military' due to diplomatic ties and the international monetary system. Since the United States is 23%+ of the world economy and spends as much on military as the rest of the world combined..(and twice the GDP % as France, Germany, etc.) other nations can get away with spending considerably less. That's a good deal, right? I do prefer that my government and the Department of Defense spend less of my tax dollars on this stuff. Cut unnecessary appropriations from the budget and so forth.... I can only imagine what an extra 200 billion annually can do elsewhere. Let Britain, France, Japan, and Germany carry more of the load!

So all this American defense spending comes at a cost- unparalleled airlift and sealift capability. Education, organization, Research and development. 11 Aircraft carrier groups.

Off the top of my head..It is true that 'Russia' did most of the fighting and dying in WW2 on the Eastern front..with some 26 mlllion dead. Kiev, Leningrad, Kursk, Bagration, Stalingrad...The United States lost 400,000+ dead on all fronts, including the Pacific. And, in this war,.. the Air war, the naval war, and the development, production, and distribution war was largely American/British & commonwealth dominated.

Russians also occupied Afghanistan at the cost of 15,000+ Russian dead. The US/Coalition has occupied Afghanistan for a longer duration and have lost 2700+ men in Afghanistan so far.

In my study of these conflicts I have largely concluded that Russian ground forces combat efficiency isn't very high, and considerably lower than the US or British Armies. To be blunt, it's largely a consequence of significantly smaller defense budgets. They have to rely on men over 'material'. Russian special forces have enormous esprit de corps and professionalism, and but so do many American soldiers. Even discounting superior organization, scale and scope of equipment, specialized knowledge, technique, and fire support..the experience of attacking a US Marine Corps or first class US Army infantry battalion..since WW1, Pacific, Korea, Vietnam Iraq, Afganistan..has been, traditionally, like walking into a buzzsaw.
