Well, Christmas is generally all about carp, but it differs and varies from home to home. In my family, it was always fried carp with potatoe salad, and a lens soup.
So, first you had the lens soup with potatoes in it,
the second was fried carp with potatoe salad (contains potatoes chopped on squares, eggs, cucumber...etc),
the third you have "oplátky" - something like very, very thin waffers - with honey,
and then you run to the Christmas tree to see what presents have you obtained.
How about you?
GOOD LORD JENNKA...WHAT HAVE U DONE! Great...now I'm hungry again
Ohh how I love seeing the many dishes one cooks to celebrate the holidays
The lens soup had me at
the second I saw it. Reminds me of clam chowder and I LOVE that soup...maybe a tad too much for it to be a healthy obsession ![]()
Well, as for us, it can REALLY vary at times but for the most part, we try to stick with a Honey baked ham, store bought...I know, I know...bad Dave's family for not making it every year
But we also LOVE tamales here. Beef, chicken, ones stuffed with cheese and jalapeno, my-oh-my the variety of tamales to be had
And I have to mention the sweet ones, what a way to end a meal. Of course, a tall glass of milk is required before one is officially done
And on a tamale note, the beef tamales are made with a red sauce (tomato based with a slight & subtle spicy kick via ones choice of peppers). Chicken tamales are made with a green sauce that is derived from tomatoes verdes and once again your choice of peppers – I prefer chilies serranos. And of course all these sauce infused proteins go onto a corn husk that has a nice layer of masa (corn dough) for it to sit on. All one needs to do after the prep is put them in a pot, steam them, and eat ![]()

But, so as not to appear a "humbug" (which I'm emphatically not):

Hey Jennka, I heard your area is getting snow
Check out this photo below...86 inches of snow...get your shovel out
Photo is of State Route 410 at the Chinook Pass in the state of Washington. Approximately 1,400 Km north of where I live.

Without the snow

^I hope those people got across the bridge in time...

^I knew you'd like it
also, you have oplatky? Do you eat them as desserts? Our opłatki are without honey though, you 'break them' with others. That is, break a bit from one person's opłatek and the other person takes a bit of yours and you give wishes to that person
&that happens before everyone sits down and before the supper starts.

Oops! Sounds like I'm in trouble. I'm sorry Jennka but things are getting a little busy. I think I told you that my work is moving to a new building. During the move people are required in both areas so staffing is pretty tight and we're all a lot busier. I don't have as much time to log on at work as I used to. The move has also been delayed several times so when it was originaly going to be in October, it now may not be until April! Also, I am now, believe it or not, a contributer to an Indian fashion blog called Saree Dreams. So when I do have some online time at work I'm often looking for things to post about. I'm also on Facebook a lot more now as well.
So how are you? How's the house? Will there be a point that you have to stop working on it for the Winter?

Yeah, I'm not a fan

^Ugh, it's one of those horrible politically correct things to use so you don't upset anyone by saying CHRISTmas. Like I'm going to stop saying Thursday as it defers to the Nordic god of thunder (Thor) and not being that way inclined I'm shocked and offended by it's usage...

That looks very, very tasty indeed, Dave! But it reminds more of a Spanish food than American, why is that?

Any snow over there yet
? Still pretty warm on this side
. We still have lots of birds as well unless this is where they come anyway.

What do you especially appreciate about your uprising by your parents?
