Wow, Nov 15th 2013!  I miss you Jennka.

I can see this.  To me, learning a language is a serious undertaking that also requires a thorough study of the nation's or region's culture.  My objective was to be able to operate in that country and be able to use it like a citizen in everyday life.  In my mind it would be the key to living somewhere else someday (maybe for a bit?).  It is such a process to leave one's country and resettle & integrate oneself somewhere else.

I still love Edita although I've done full reviews of her long ago and have since moved on to other models.

Also, a recommendation:  Creativity: The Psychology of Discovery and Invention

I recently read the footnotes of this classic book and was favorably impressed at the breadth of the research study.  I think you'll like it as you like evolutionary psychology and making art.

Author's background:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mihaly_Csikszentmihalyi

http://www.amazon.com/Creativity-The-Psychology-Discovery-Invention/dp/0062283251/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389553830&sr=8-1&keywords=creativity

Whoa thank you for the recommendation I wrote it down in my books wish-list!

I perceive learning language as getting closer to the nation you´re learning about - because there is much more about language than just words - it´s the culture (as you stated), the habit, the way of thinking and much more, everything reflecting itself in the language. I take it as a serious scientific study eventhough I do not plan to move from Slovakia, I find it fascinating to be able to speak and understand as much languages as I can. Slowly I´m getting a whole image and finding about words that are relatively the same throughout the world and those that are totally different. I want to get THE whole image. Once, maybe

How much different? I guess is as different as Spanish from Portugal, maybe a little less. We understand each other because our cultures are very close and we generally grow up with Czech language as well as with Slovak but for a foreigner it might sound as two totally different languages.

How different are Portugese and Spanish?

They're similar languages, but there's big differences too. For example we don't understand each other THAT well. But that may be in part because of the accents too. It's a lot easier for me to understand Portuguese when it's written, as there's a lot of similar words. But when it's spoken things get more difficult for me.

I've been to Brazil a couple of times and I had some troubles understanding the language

Ok, just send me an email on jennka22@gmail.com and I´ll send it to you

Yes, the prejudice is obvious, but also obviously plain and I´m sure it will vanish with future generations I really like the general movement of our social culture towards more fantasy, scifi, science and tolerance for those who are different than the general population.

Thanks! I'll send you an email

Let's hope those prejudices will vanish indeed! At least these things are actually becoming more popular lately, which is a great sign.

Same here

Building trains is your hobby? Didn´t know about that one

hardwood floor is such an amazing thing - although very pricy as well. I also do love carpets because I find them very warm - I´m not a fan of paving or stone inside the house aside from purely decorative or practical aims.

Oh yes, model railroading is the HUGE hobby for me here I'm basically collecting freight cars now for the future layout out I want to build in the future house, more specifically, future garage to be

EDIT ADD: Found it, here is the layout I visited in San Diego once and I basically want to build a layout like the below but with less hilly terrain and more city in the mix and much smaller in size of course

Mhmm, wood floors are amazing and they do cost a bit up-front but can easily last the life of the house and that's what I'm lookign for And as far as carpets go I would put that for all the bedrooms at the most And as far as stone, that stays with-in the kitchen generally speaking for me as a table top or even floors but that would require a heated floor system for me if given the chance to do so financially.

So how have things been with you Jennka, miss our chats

Oh, so in the end they are not as similar as I thought them to be How do you perceive each other´s cultures? Is there any tendency for Spanish speaking people to learn Portuguese? Is it easier for you to learn it than, e.g. for a German man?

So model railroading. Never met anyone with such hobby, although it´s not something totally strange to me Why railroads?

How have things been with me - up and down. As always. I strive for a peaceful and more or less boring year. There is always something happenning in my life - either problems at work, (recently it was pure crazyness) or troubles with future housing... at the moment we are waiting for an official approval from the real estate register (deciding time is usually 30 days) of the transcription of the land on my person and then we can start to take action about it - though we are also waiting for my FL´s friend to inform us on the possibilities of the land because we are not sure if construction is going to be even possible there.

So, lots of waiting, little action, many doubts. I´m slowly losing the last pieces of hope and enthusiasm about it. I need something to start me up again.

I´m also experiencing a weird mind condition - getting less and less social every day. I´m more into my books now than ever before and even more pissed off because of human stupidity around me (even the minor one). I can´t talk to some people for more than 10 minutes and for the rest of the dialogue have to bite my tongue because I already feel like a "smartass" and people do not like smartass.

However, the general range of basic information about just everything is extremely limited. All the thinking errors consequently come from this lack of knowledge and when you try to explain this to anyone, mostly you end up being "smartass" or make people pissed at you. I have books and serious scientists, they have "I´ve heard this.... I´ve read this somewhere.... I just think it IS like this... I have a feeling...or, the worst one, God created us this way or God wanted it to be this way....etc". These are arguments I cannot really fight. People are so emotional. Driven by those emotions every day.

Like a FL´s colleague speaking about eugenics yet he lacks basic knowledge in genetics and evolutionary area. This is just a sample of thinking error. I´m always like "get your facts right" and end up being what? Smartass.

Sorry for the rant, I needed to let go of it somewhere It will be better eventually, everything does

and maybe I am overdoing it, somehow, dunno. But I cannot get to the limited thinking anymore

Well it's more then just railroads it's the miniaturization of it all that captured my fascination of the hobby to begin with. But it revolves more on the trains then anything else when speaking model railroading of course and is the key emphasis

Sounds like a lot of bureaucracy and red tape to get things done over there Well as always I wish you the best in the home efforts, I can relate to a small extent on how you feel there.

See this is why ignorance isn't bliss Some people are just so stuck on their ways and thoughts after YEARS AND YEARS of being told so and taught a certain way that trying to tell them otherwise is like trying to roll a boulder uphill hun. At those points I honestly just nod my head and say "interesting". Some people love to feel important and somehow competent with what they supposedly know and the 2nd you try to break down their reality they will go "up in arms" over it. Best just nod your head once again This is why I joined my architecture/engineering forum many years ago, way before BZ for reference, so I can talk with like minded people in my interests. This is one of the true beauties of the internet, global community now at arms reach

Hehe, no worries, rant away, this is why we have BZ no?

I would say it's not overdoing it but just finding the right people to talk too. Once again just nod your head to ignorance and embrace those you can carry a good in-depth conversation with.

Jennka, how do you feel about your 'spoken' english vs. your written english (or the voice you have in your head while you are reading?)

Many foreigners have superb command of the english language and can write splendid, complex material using it but they don't have the experience of actually speaking the language & training their voices.

I have an low toned voice, which makes me sound like a radio announcer/TV  but it comes at the cost of being closer to monotone than charismatic if I am not deliberate.   So recently I've been reading 'It's the way you say it'.

I'm halfway through this and am pleased.  The author is a speech pathologist and has done a good job (250 pages) in putting together a guide to how a person's voice operates, and how it can be changed.

I've been trying to improve my public speaking as of late.  I've taken impact speaking course many years ago but I find that I need to know more about the 'art' and I read this book with my voice recorder in hand while I jot down ideas.

There is a 'toastmasters' club that I may consider joining in the future (people talking in front of large groups).  There's also improv ............

Leo is a class of his own. Love his movies

And thank you, I totally love that set Gisele looks so natural in the new photoshoot, so relaxed yet incredibly sexy. I adore that she works so hard still eventhough she has enough money for her entire family not have to work anymore

She´s the last true Super, so I hope to have her around for veery long time!

On a different note, how do you feel about new SI? I have a very positive feeling about the mag, the photography is amazing

I think with Gi it just shows how much she really cares and enjoys modeling...its not a money game for her....its about doing what she loves with awesome brand names ;

Indeed she is! 5 years from now, who do you think will be going down as a more newwer class of SUPER?

I loved, locations, models, everything about this issue was perfect!

I also think that for her, the fashion is like a family now. She knows all the relevant people so she just repeat working with those she likes the most, like when you´re visiting your friends

Super class? None, as I see it. I cannot see anyone now (and the forced assumptions some people are trying to make about future supermodels just come out as pretty lame for me) and seeing that the industry has diametrally changed from what it used to be, now it´s more about social media hype and money than exclusivity, and no one can blame the girls. The age of Supers is gone, and it might come back in future, but not now. Modeling has become just another business with LOTS OF topmodels and HELLA lot of models, but no supermodels. And I don´t see anything bad about it. It´s a way of earning your living, like any other profession. It used to be exclusive, distinct, "whow factor-y", now anyone can be a model and the industry is becoming more and more diverse. Which is a good thing, afterall.

Yes, they really met the expectations this time And I am so so so glad that Marloes and Bregje were rookies

My spoken English - I feel fine about it. I´ve been receiving compliments, people mostly refuse to believe me when I try to convince them I´ve never been to English speaking countries. I sometimes try to keep my European accent sometimes I speak more americanish and sometimes I enjoy the awesome Brittish accent, depends on whom I am speaking to when I´m drunk, I mix languages and jump from English to Spanish to Russian and the next day I´m like "I did it again, fu*k."

Thank you for the link! Epub is ideal format for my Kindle.

And I´m glad to hear you´re trying to improve your public speaking! That is a great thing if you ask me and I consider it also very important, although many people do not pay sufficient attention to it.

When it goes to speaking in front of a group of people, I´m totally lost. With my introvert tendencies and general shyness, I´m the worst person you could pick for a public talk. Unless I´m at least little drunk
