Yeah, there's 18 teams as of this year. There's a new one just starting up in the comp in 2012, and there was another one introduced last year too. Prior to that, there'd been 16 teams for a fair while. At the end of the season, the top 8 teams progress to the finals, which take place over 4 weeks. I'd say more often than not, the top 8 sides are usually foreseeable some weeks from the end of the season, with perhaps the last couple of places in contention - although last year it was really tight for some reason. The ladder positions from about 6-15 were all kind of up in the air from week to week.. so there's often a bunch that are 'lucky' to just sneak in. Regardless, it's really rare for a team to take out the premiership from outside the top 4 spots. It's still a big thing pushing for that top 8 though, since finals experience is invaluable, especially for young teams still in development.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by snobs? In a "my team is better than your team" way, or in a my sport is better than your sport way?

Oops, that second part was supposed to be a separate subject reading Australian Indie fans rather than Australian fans. It seems strange seeing now that it doesn't say that, though I think I was in a long line when I posted that one . That is, do Australian Indie fans have somewhat of a music snob reputation that some here associate those over here with. I don't know whether your familiar with that reputation of those here or not though. At least those here are stereotyped as having the "I'm too cool for anything else" air somewhat like punk and metal fans are known for . Of course, it is interresting in light of the fact that the artists themselves seem fond of covering songs from other genres (which the crazy fans try to taint by going on the original's video to diss it and hype the other ) but crazy fans can ruin the reputation of anything to outsiders as we can see even with models obviously. Even though you seem to share my same disdain for most commercial pop, you've done pretty well not to come off like those though.

Oh - yeah I thought the punk/metal analogy came a little out of left field

I must admit that there's been a bit of a change up in my Indie fandom. At first Kimbra was definitely in the lead on the female side but now it seems Sarah is catching up if not pulling ahead. Of course, as a vocalist on the technical side Kimbra seems to have a stronger timbre, probably more range and control. Of course, the fact that she's not that bad to look at doesn't hurt matters but Sarah's lyrics and melodies are pretty strong. At least she seems to have a high win percentage so rar.

I think I can help you guys

I checked her agency, Cherie models and their blogspot is all in cyryllic, so definitely Eastern European I remember there's also a model called Vika for whom Joe started a thread. Not saying Vika is a name used only in Russia, could be Ukrainian or Belarussian as well. In one of the comments under a note from July 2011 I found out that she's 17

You're right about the technical side of her vocals, but her voice is still one of the most beautiful and haunting thing to my ears. I've seen her perform live about eight times, give or take, and she never ceases to amaze me.

I'm glad you're liking her music

I just saw Kimbra last weekend too, talking of her.. front and center

^Love the 'hipster' Locke picture!

And, yeah, I don't subscribe to this "guilty pleasures" term either with music. It just seems to reinforce this snobbery that 'Pop' is somehow throwaway or lesser than 'Rock' or 'Indie'. Outside the US I'd say 'Country' falls into this too - that these songs only have a novelty value and no intrinsic worth otherwise.

It's never a "guilty" pleasure to listen to a song you love, it's simply a pleasure - I don't bloody care what the editor of the NME or your country's equivalent of the I'm-listening-to-something-way-cooler-than-you music press 'bible' thinks about it.

Do you like Bioshock 2 better or worse than the first so far?

Bioshock Infinite is going to blow my face off. I've been holding my breath with anticipation for that game for more than a year

Ah yes, the old 'guilty pleasure' chestnut. Put me down as a fellow unbeliever - if you like something, it's justification enough for listening to it.
