^Agreed, that's one of the better ones.

It was just so utterly devoid of inspiration this year, like they were just phoning it in. The waste of all that potential is maddening, and well.. the less said about the Photoshopping the better

Looking over the scans though, the ones that made the mag were much better than the web shots on the whole. These were the stand-outs for me:

si1201.jpg

si1202.jpg

si1203.jpgsi1204.jpg

Then these were my picks of the web shots:

si1205.jpg

si1206.jpg

si1207.jpg

I thought Nina made a pretty spectacular debut too. She's a perfect fresh face for the mag, and I really hope she makes recurring appearances.

Really great pics when I collect mine favs, I´ll post them here

My Greatest Model and Member Name Butchery

There was a time when I considered copying and pasting, but then I feld dishonest from the aspect that it seemed like I was pretending to be able to spell them. From there, I tried looking up their threads right before posting their names, but they didn't come up in the search from being spelled so poorly and even when they did I somehow forgot them instantly. How I can remember obscure stats from sports I rarely watch and suck so much with names is a mystery to me. This is subject to change because there have been so many victims obviously.

10. Sandra Kapricka - one of my biggest model crushes and I'm surprised sarnic never corrected me . I think she's corrected me on several others though.

9. Eniko Malanik

8. Likia - no one ever corrected me here either and I just found out it wasn't her name .

7. TheBarronofFratton - there's been several variations of this.

6. Barbara Palin

5. Freja Beja Erickson

4. Cintia Dickens - that was an earlier one althogh I'm not sure the current one is right either.

3. Magdalana Frackowack

2. Melorest Horse, Melores Horst, Malores Horsts ect. - the first one at least was short lived and I was able to edit it before too many people saw it .

1. Etita Vilcuriute and Vilcuricute - apparently the first and last names have been worked over on that one.

^

I think learning to spell Vilkeviciute was a key moment of fandom for me

I used to always have to think twice with Nicole Trunfio/Trufino/Trufnio before too.

And Magdalena "Fragglerock". One of those names I always recognise but can never remember <_<

I must admit, it hasn't worked to may advantage as ironically I can't find the thread by typing in the name because its spelled wrong and I have so many subscriptions now that its hard to remember which one most of them are. Someone even said to me in a pm once that they love the routine where I 'pretend' to spell the name wrong and someone corrects it :| .

Joe I love you and your misspellings it´s like death or taxes - you can always rely on them

How was the festival then, Don?

It was

I was so stoked at the lineup, and how all my favourites were all on the one stage - I got there early and planted myself dead center in the front row

Anna Calvi - she was absolutely flawless

Chairlift - they were actually pretty amazing. I didn't really appreciate how good and unique Caroline's voice was until I saw them live

Laura Marling - what more can be said

Feist - I was a little surprised at some of her omissions, but she smashed it. She had her 'rock' face on, much more so than the last time I saw her

Austra - great set

Pajama Club (new band of Neil Finn & his wife) - first time hearing their music, and it was fantastic. Neil is a fucking legend

The Panics - great set too

Sounds pretty sweet! I wonder who I have to talk to to get an Anna Calvi show in my neck of the woods - the Gateshead Sage (where Laura Marling will be playing next month) is just so tailor made for her, it's quite absurd that a gig there hasn't materialised yet. :persuazn:

I must confess to not knowing a great deal about Chairlift, but I did catch the video for (let me see if I can spell this right) 'Amanaemonesia' and oh so predictably, was rather taken with Caroline.

^Yeah, she reminds me of Clara Alonso a little

I listened to their first album a fair bit when it came out, although I was never a huge fan. Their track Bruises got a fair bit of airplay here at the time. And I really fell in love with Evident Utensil

I really like their new record, and I appreciate them a whole lot more now too - as I said, their live show really impressed me

Are you a Geordie Michael?

Hope you get to see Anna somewhere soon. It'd be worth making a road trip to see her somewhere else though, if push came to shove. The UK is so small compared to Aus - I'd do the distance north to south easy

Radiohead just announced that they're touring here in November, which is pretty big news. They haven't been out since 2004. Major suckage though - they're not doing the west coast. They haven't been here since 199-frickin-8, touring OK Computer. And I really regret not going to that show

So I checked the 2011 SI and I think... dunno, you asked if I consider this year better - but I think I´m biased by Nina being in this years one, so I consider it better lol

but aside from it... not really, both these years are quite forgetable, don´t you think?

Well, Edita didn't take time for me technically since I'm still at square one . Well, I guess I have progressed somewhat in that I have the first name right now and the last part because I remember that its 'cute' with an I in there. With Valentina I usually call her Valentina Z although it is a lovely name which is fitting because she's cute and seems really nice.

Joe - Your lists need to have a thread for themselves great stuff

Thanks though I think there is a list for top 10s in General PIP Talk, but its hard to find since it gets buried most of the time .

Yeah, they were both pretty lame efforts, all things considered thumbsdown.gif

By and large though, I think last year's was better. I think they at least tried to offer a little bit of variation in the shoots.. sort of. Iza and Jessica had much better 2012 shoots, but Alyssa's was wayyy better last year.

2012 had Nina, but 2011 had Cat and Elena (albeit in the model search)

Yeah I give up on that one

7. TheBarronofFratton - there's been several variations of this.

^You are certainly not alone on the "Barron" bit - it constantly surprises me how so short a word can get so consistently misspelt on here?!!

But generally, I always enjoy an 'Averagism' - I'm disappointed you didn't use that moniker by the way...

Are you a Geordie Michael?
^38573061.gifShhh, I think he's a 'Mackem' and they don't take kindly to that!

^I fnd the whole thing a little meh each year... Cintia, most notably, aside I don't see a tremendous difference between a lot of the girls - they all have "good" bodies and blandly pretty faces, but aren't inspirational. They seem designed for men of no imagination!

I wonder if you all could enlighten me?

Oh dear. I don't even know what a Mackem is

My perceptions of Michael just went all over the place for a moment there though

Indeed, the blandness has been palpable, particularly in recent years.. yet it still begs attention every year. The potential is always much greater than what they ultimately deliver, on several fronts. Tell you what though, give me the art director, editor and photographer hats and you'd change your tune :morning:

^I don't want to speak for him, but I think he's from Sunderland which is only ten miles away from Newcastle - and to the untrained ear I guess they sound the same? But, as with any near-city neighbours, there's an acute sense of rivalry; particularly as they are the two cities of the metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear. 'Mackem' is just the slang term for someone from Sunderland ('Wearsider' - as on the river Wear), as opposed to 'Geordie' for a 'Tynesider from Newcastle.

I hope that's OK, Michael*?

^Of this I have no doubt!

I think my appointment as a similar 'overseer' for the VSFS might be, at best, contentious though...

I see

I just had a vague inkling that he was in/near Newcastle when he mentioned Gateshead, I guess because of something Ross Noble said once My knowledge of UK geography is sketchy at best though. Thanks for the lesson anyhow

Have you gone so far as to have the dream cast worked out? The music? How far away security is to keep Lima? <_<

Have you gone so far as to have the dream cast worked out? The music? How far away security is to keep Lima? <_<
^Not that I've dwelt on it - but since you asked...

My 'dream cast' going on what's currently feasible:

Behati Prinsloo

Magdalena Frackowiak

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Chanel Iman

Lais Navarro (NOT Ribeiro)

Cintia Dicker

Marloes Horst

Eniko Mihalik

Maryna Linchuk

Joan Smalls

Bregje Heinen

Gracie Carvalho

Edita Vilkeviciute

Flavia de Oliveira

Aurelia Gliwski

Shannan Click

Candice can come too, I think she has a great walk, and I'd maybe give Barbara Palvin a try. I'd try and coax Inguna out of "retirement" for the finale too - she could close. Behati is obviously going to open... I know the cast list is usually about twice as long, but fuck that. This way I get to see my cast twice as much!

As for music, I'm eschewing having a 'live' act as that just takes time away from the models. As long as the mixes complement what's going on stage then there's really no need. Mainly I'm going with glamorous rock (as opposed to straight 'glam-rock') - which is what I envision all fashion shows should have as a soundtrack anyway. Lots of Roxy Music, early Suede, T-Rex and, of course, Bowie. I'd get some Eagles Of Death Metal on there too, and Adam Ant is well overdue for a reappraisal!

Theme-wise I'm simply going to indulge my fetishes. I'm opening with a circus showgirl type affair - lots of glitter and churning Marc Bolan riffs. Then a cowgirl shindig, with denim, buckles and suede - The Flying Burrito Brothers (glamourous country) playing. I know the 2006 show had a stewardess segment - but I love stewardesses and what I say goes, besides I'd do it much better. I reckon a burlesque/bordello section is well overdue too, so tassels and fishnets (I doubt CBS would allow my S&M section, to a soundtrack of The Velvet's Venus In Furs - so this will suffice. None of that sub-par Chicago shit though). PINK would morph into the risque field of groupies, specifically late 60's/early 70's style "band-aid" girls like in Almost Famous. Then I'd end in the proper way of having everyone in a new outfit, just straight up lingerie from the new range.

Don't care about any million-dollar bra. So don't bother trying to work out which one it could be as in previous years when it's hardly mentioned.

Whilst I'm sure Russell Simmons, that bloke from C.S.I Miami, and the Hilton Sisters will still turn up - they'll have to make do with whatever seats are left after you've all taken your place. Don't be offended if the camera doesn't cut to you - they are all pointed firmly at the stage and have grommets attached to prevent them from turning the other way!

I fully endorse backstage footage - no hokey nonsense though. I think we're safe from too much face-pulling and gross insincerity with this cast. No monologues.

Lastly Behati lip-synching to One Way Or Another by Blondie as some spurious promo piece.

As I said: Not that I've dwelt on it or anything.
