Subtle product placement there
Did you end up claiming your free game by the way?

I think there's a lot of reasons. The social/lifestyle thing is probably a significant part of it, but for starters the fact that Playstation and Xbox are actually tangible brands/products makes them inherently more marketable too. Standardisation is another reason - you know that if a game runs and performs to a standard on one Playstation, it will do so exactly the same on every other Playstation. Not necessarily so with PC, where the combinations of different operating systems, hardware configurations and drivers can cause all sorts of unforseen problems and unexpected results. The former is appealing to both developers and the average consumer. Piracy is thought to be a much bigger problem on PC too, which is probably another factor in influencing where publishers put their focus.
You know, you do have a point there. Those graphic cards that people need to buy to play the games cost as much as the consoles themselves, right? I use my computers for business purposes so I don't bother getting a gamer's graphic card.

Hadn't noticed that myself, but there is certainly something there. ![]()

Yeah..
Also, Daria W. in Rapture. Is she a splicer?!

Well they can do, but I think there's a bit of a perception that it's more expensive than it is. You could build a pretty decent gaming rig for a comparable price, and have it be much more powerful than any console (the extent of which depends on what point of the console cycle we're in) - and you have to remember that the PC can also be used for a lot more things on top of gaming. If you're a real enthusiast, then yeah you can spend more than the cost of a console just on the graphics card if you want a high end one - but that's only if you want to play everything smoothly on ultra high settings, and in high resolution.
I'm not a computer guy (not interested at all...), I'd always bought solutions. I can see how a $300 video card would help somebody with graphic design, though.
I think we talked a bit about this before, in that I'm sure there are a lot of people who'd love a game like that, but the wider gaming community have shown that they prefer arcade shooters like COD. There was a recent interview with RO2 creators Tripwire, in which the president was quoted as saying COD "has almost ruined a generation of shooter players", which caused a bit of a furorIt would be interesting to see a WW2 game as something of a mashup between RO2 and Planetside 2 (closer to your ideal game's scale, in terms of number of players). I guess it would just be a matter of if there are enough people to make it successful in both the short term and long term. There have been so many WW2 games over the years, that it's hard to see how they'd drum up enough hype and interest around it, even if it was a fresh angle
Yeah, RO2 is very much a niche game, and the bulk of the loyal players (if you check the tripwire forum, for instance..) have more than a passing interest in military history. I haven't played it since early last year so I can't say what the status of the thing is now. One of the tropes (lol) in multiplayer is to make fun of whiner newbies (usually whining that 'this game is hard') by telling them to go back to COD.
I'd like to see good, historically, organizationally, & technically war games on: 1. WW2 2. Korean War 3. Vietnam War 4. Soviet-Afgan war 5. Modern Afgan/Iraq. maybe 10 years from now. So far, there has only been RO2 and Blitzkrieg. Nothing else balances entertainment and accuracy as well as those two. *And these are, objectively, only 3.5/5 games so you can imagine how I feel about the rest of the genre.

Hey Don, thought this might be as much to your liking as it is to mine. I'm thinking two parts Laura Marling, one part Joanna Newsom. ![]()

Have you seen Arrested Development Jennka?

And sorry for being so late. I was ill and had a crazy time at work, so I was only able to check BZ for few minutes and not thoroughly. But I´m better now, the next crazyness is expected to arrive next week ![]()

It's okay. Glad you're better, and are still around
The board feels a little deserted lately.

That sounds great indeed! It is more comedy-oriented? Can you take me in the plot and the things you love the most about it?

Good call :Dinah:
Is she from the UK? Must go investigate more..
Yeah, London I think. Her mini-album 'That Iron Taste', which I plan on checking out soon, dropped around February. There's a free covers EP to be had on her website too. ![]()

Great
What was that clip in reference to?
How I tend to like blondes more than brunettes. ![]()
Speaking of which, I uploaded 3 galleries onto junkyard, and there are some vintage Marloes pictures from the beginning of her career.

Did you by any chance go to see Blasko performing with Snow Patrol? I was trying to see if she had anything new to post in the this year Music thread, but according to the ever wise one (wikipedia) that's the last time she's been seen
.
