Thanks, it sad to hear that maybe he hasn't been able to let his guard down considering that we've been going out for over a year. Reality bites! Yeah, he's just a bit of an arse that I put up with out of a strong attachment.. I know it, all my friends think I'm stupid including my mother, but what can I do? I'm stuck on him..

That is called being in love my dear. I read somewhere that you are his first relationship. Maybe that's the reason. Some people just feel vulnerable. But do not put up with him just out of attachment and do not let him use you as a puppet.
