M.F.? No enlighten me!

Herbs are amazing. Recently I have made myself a tea from dandelion´s leaves and it tasted great

As for the Slovak language... that is a hard question Joe. For me as a native speaker it´s hard to tell if it´s difficult to learn or not. I guess every language is hard to learn when you´re not a language freak and especially hard when you do not live in the country at least for a year. Not impossible' date=' mind you, just hard.

If I were you - I read that you speak Spanish, Japanesse, Greek? So why not improving those you know (like learning the Japanesse alphabet) and then maybe you could conquer some language that is used more widely than Slovak, like French or Russian or Italian or Portuguesse? [/quote']

Oh, heehee, M.F. stands for, well...you know...the famous obscenity. At least that's why I abandoned it as Magdalana's knickname anyway. Speaking of names, I had the hardest time finding your current muse as my misspelling or averageism was so severe that the search engine didn't even have a suggestion to correct it . I tried Birdget Henson, Brejge Heiniken, Bridjet Heiniken, Brejade Heinsin until I saw that you had it written already and I just copy and pasted it. I was telling Layla awhile ago that my issue with names is somewhat puzzling in light of not only having an otherwise photographic memory, but knowing the spellings of over a hundred scientific names.

Great point about the language thing though. I could very well take the Japanese thing to the next level by learning the traditional writing. I don't really get to use it that much seeing as how the majority of the Asian people here that I know are Chinese and Korean. Do you speak any other languages? I'm about 30% with French and Portuguese would actually be a good one to try. A friend was teaching me Russian at one point, but I gave up because I thought I sounded like I was imitating someone . Although, come to think of it, in Japanese I am imitating anima characters . Lol, I asked if you spoke any other languagest, taking English for granted .

Thank you for replying

I always enjoy talking to you!

What's funny is that I like the smell of coffee, I like coffee cakes as well but the coffee itself is too much for me.

As for the weather, it's soo good no need to take a jacket when leaving home, and if you take one you regret it cause there's no use for it unfortunately now that I look outside the window a strom is coming and I should be leaving my house for about 2 hours... don't wanna it's warm but I think it might be raining, plus I don't feel like being outside during storms, I can already see flashes

Healthy enough? It could always be better! Fortunately, I have been to swimming pool 2 times already this month. And I am considering buying rollerblades-I have an old pair but it's not good anymore. Plus, there's this cool thing in my city, from what I know it exists in other foreign cities, too; it's called Nightskating and basically it means that on Thursdays, ever 2 weeks between April and August (or so, I'd have to check the website) there is a tour for people who want to skate at night on the streets it goes for about 2 hours? From 9 PM or so. Once I was coming home by bus around 10 PM and saw this huge group of people skating, with police escorting and so on it's not like we even experience traffic at night but particular streets are 'closed' for cars and buses for several minutes so people can safely skate on them when I happened to observe this I think the bus couldn't drive for 10 or 15 minutes! yeah, I definitely want to participate in that at least once but I better train for that, 2 hours is quite a lot. Fortunately there are nice places for skating.

Lol same here with the coffee cakes and the smell. The smell itself is quite pleasant, but the pure taste of coffee - simply no. I used to like capuccino early in my teen days but then I realized that is NOT a coffee and that my kind of capuccino was more like a milk with cocoa, so I stopped drinking coffee totally.

Oh, we had this kind of storm during weekend, especially on Sunday evening it was huge. Lots of bolts, thunder - amazing. But it´s still cold in the morning - I always have to wear some kind of jacket, what pisses me off immensely because when going home from work I´m behunged with clothes because it´s already too hot for them, damn

That night skating sounds amazing. No traffic to shoot you down! When you try it, be sure to tell me how it went With the warmer weather and more free time during 2 weekends out of one month (because fl works those two weekends and we can´t go to the cottage) I´m trying to spend more time outside - having walks in the forest near us and vineyards, and I have to say I enjoy it absolutely, though being alone does not feel very good, but I will get used to I have already discovered many wonderful paths and places I would love to share with someone.

I can also understand elderly people-they already have problems with moving and walking so showering may not be a 5 minute thing for them. BUT when I see young people smelling bad... that's inexcusable. Once I was in a bus with my mum and behind us was a young man, sitting with some girl. I guess they could be around 25, maybe younger. Anyway, one could smell that he didn't care for his 'personal hygiene' so gross, and then I said to my mum: and I bet this guy expects this girl to blow him. Lmao.

Yes, I do

DAMN, such a big flash appeared and now it's pouring rain so heavily some people from the public transport could go out and have a free shower by nature to leave or not to leave my house, that is a question.

Did you left or not?

oh, and wait - what did you mean by "I bet this guy expects this girl to blow him". Because I have a seriously... erm, nasty picture in my mind now!!

Lol, that is also my fault, because I have this "Heineken" written right down in my profile ava But you and your misspelling of names and surnames is phenomenal - never give up that one, Joe!

Do you have a photography memory, Joe? Tell me more about that. And I want to know more about the scientific names too, because I´m very bad at learning them. I know like tens of models names, but I fail to remember people I actually care about unless I read a book from them - like Dawkins or John Taylor, one that comes to my mind is also Carl Sagan, but there are like thousands of them and I can´t simply remember them. Not even twenty of them!!

Lol at the English. But you are right in one sense becasue many people here take the knowledge of English for granted. That´s why I plan to teach my kids from the day they are born, I´d like to communicate with them only in English, so it would feel natural for them to speak in this language.

I´ve been learning Spanish for like 4 years and now I´m trying not to forget what I was taught lol, reading books and re-studying everything (I have bought myself a book for self-educating of Spanish). Reading Harry Potter in Spanish (I´m on part two, yay).

And this year I plan to take on Russian - I´m already checking language courses. I´ll see how that will go, there is still so much to learn in Spanish, and also practice my English, I hope I can handle three languages... my dream is to know as much languages as I can.

Thank you. Glad you liked it.

Yes, a saree is one of the few garments where just putting it on requires a fair amount of skill. I'm sure Shelby didn't drape this saree herself. Even moving around in a saree requires some skill. Unfortunately, some women end up looking like badly wrapped Christmas presents but some (like Shelby) just seem to take to it straight away.

Being just a few metres of fabric, you can drape a saree in many ways and in India, traditionally, different regions have different drapes but now there are about five or six commonly used drapes with, what's known as, the Nivi drape being by far the most common.

You may find this site interesting, lots more information there.

Thank you for the link

So the saree is something like a national clothes in India? Do little girls get taught how to make it and wear it while little? It´s amazingly beautiful. I just can´t stop staring it some pieces!

I'm not entirely sure but I think this statue was put up, in 2009, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the publication of the first book.

Love the statue and thank you for the info

btw how are you Tran? How is the house-work and all other things going on?

Here's a UK newspaper article about her (sent to me by a Facebook friend who knows I'm 'into models'(!)).

I'm not too sure about her as a model (those eyebrows are a little too over the top for me) but I do love her sense of humour and the fact that it seems to be helping her career rather than hindering it. She's being hired by clients who are looking for a slightly 'wacky' look.

Oh, I got caught by her total crazyness and sense of humour too. But I love her look as well - her eyes, bone structure and nose, all of it just clicks in with me. I think she can pull off different looks and be quite versatile. Haven´t checked her thread in a while though

^It's better that you don't know. Just an overrated model from wealthy/socialite family who 'hangs out' with celebs, like the irrelevant Rita Ora

Fro somew reason being from a wealthy family, being sister of a socialite and hanging out with celebrities.

Ok, so I now get that you evidently don´t like her, Lay

Do you think she is really this way? Never thought about it before, I always liked her crazyness and look as well. Hm.

I thought this would be a good time to update the books conversation and post my review here just in case you or anybody else is interested :

Since I last posted, I did finish listening to the abridged audiobook (5:30), also available on youtube) of "How the Mind works" (Steven Pinker). It, and its sequel (the Blank Slate) were the Pulitzer Prize finalists for two years. Pinker is a cognitive scientist and one of the top public intellectuals in Harvard. His claim to fame is, like Richard Dawkins of Oxford, to popularize their respective scientific fields for the non-specialist. Pinker popualizes evolutionary psychology and psychological origins of linguistics in his series of books.

'How the Mind works' is my first Pinker. A few brief comments

+This is a book about human nature, and the mechanical, hardwired systems that humans are born with and selected by evolution & genetics..

+ It is exceptionally well written, and Pinker is an outstanding writer. His writing skills are worth acquiring the book alone.

+ I can't think of any introduction to evolutionary psychology that's better than this. This book is readable for teenagers and its core substance is fundamental.

+I regret not reading this book when I was 15, as it would have saved much in the way of mistakes with myself and others. I believe that a teenager would have their entire worldview influenced by this book if they read it early enough in their life. At the very least, they would treat religion, social organization, and political ideology with more caution and insight. It's a good 'first step' to becoming a more aware person.

+Good experience. The Audiobook is narrated very well.

- Just my personal view- but being nonreligious my whole life, I knew in surplus of 80% of it through personal experience or other sources. Unfortunately, I learned some of it the hard way.

- The First half is essential, but also less important than the Second half.

-The Audiobook extracts the substance and leaves out the dregs. I examined the 'dregs' in the book and I personally think that Pinker could have condensed his good writing considerably for those of us that face a time-crisis.

-He uses eclectic, interesting examples more than cited studies.

-----------------------------

I also completed "Diffusion of Innovations". This book is 560 pages long (text) and I read it cover to cover. It is designed as an quasi-academic text so it is very heavily cited, and the footnotes are in excess of a hundred pages. It is interesting and enlightening..

+ It's one of the best books I've ever read. It's a classic graduate sociology text about the diffusion of change among human populations. Very wide application, as these situations can be generalized. Case studies presented from rural sociology, technology, business, cultural, organizational, and governmental examples. It's fundamentally about mass behavior.

+ It's application extends to thinking about how new technologies, products and services are spread among customers/end users.

+It is heavily cited with studies and codified evidence; so it's not one man's fluff theory.

+It's well written so its density is not so much of a problem.

+Reading this solves the cliche' of the S-curve and the technological adoption cycle (so frequently used by marketers). The basis of the second derivative is now explained right in this seminal text. This theory is largely accepted by the high tech community.

-The Text could have been truncated to 400 pages without losing any of its value.

How_the_Mind_Works.jpg51dle3jkqcl.jpg

Thank you for the preview and insight Andy I now have both of these on my wish list. A definite must-have.

The Books Wish List (or have to read list) - in no particular order

1, Surely you´re joking, Mr.Feyhman!

2, The Demon Haunted World - Carl Sagan

3, Kolaps a regenerace - Miroslav Bárta (Collapse and Regeneration - deals with complex society changes)

4, Social Evolution - Robert Trivers

5, How the Mind Works - Steven Pinkers

6, Diffusion of Innovations - Everett M. Rogers

7, The Selfish Gene - Dawkins

8, Thinking Fast and Slow - Kahneman

9, The Life of Cosmos - Smolin

10, 2000 Years of Disbelief: Famous People with the Courage to Doubt - James Haught

11, Nasledujúcich 100 rokov (The Next 100 years) - George Friedman

And these are books I have not bought YET. At home I have three biographies - Freud, Tesla, Darwin, plus two books from Charles Darwin - On the Origin of Species and The Voyage of the Beagle, plus Freud´s Moses and Monoteism.

I would also love to read the one Pratchett book finally. And I need to continue reading my Spanish book to practice and memorize words.

Still I can´t keep myself un-enthusiastic about these two reviews

Haven't been on a lot over the past few weeks but then again I could say that about our host here. Jennka, where are you!?

I´m terribly sorry, to answer all of these:

This place is source of nostalgia, lol. Let's hope that Jennka gets the memo...:-l

Cheers dude! What can I say, I kinda missed this place

Yeah indeed. Although It does appear she is still visiting the place. Maybe she is just fed up with us

Losing Baron and Jennka at the same time...such a knockout blow..

I´m really sorry I abandoned this place for such a long time. I had a lot on my mind, my work is a one huge crazy place recently and I was simply too exhausted to answer to you guys - just like Mahi said, I really take care and read every comment and try to answer every one of them thoroughly, I mostly dedicate lots of time and energy for my thread and other personal members threads. This was not possible for me recently because I was psychically drained and the only think I was able to was to post in Bregje´s thread that really takes no brainier to do that.

But I will try to manage my time more carefully and spare some energy for BZ, promise. I won´t leave that easily, mind you!

This all means much to me.

I always notice Jennka likes to read carefully what is written here on her own place and takes her full time to reply to it,so even if she visits BZ these days, she may be not having much time to read and reply as she get us used to it,so I'm sure she''ll try to have time and reply to all of her friends here.

BTW,I know you're joking on the last part of your post, but I also miss her and came here to express it too.

you know me, Mahi thank you for understanding. I hope you are feeling better now?

I've known her for a long time Mahi. I'd rather not sugar coat it- she's lost some interest in the forum like Baron did. It's only natural and inevitable. I've also been finding this forum to be less fun than it used to be, and my interest in models has matured & moved past its peak :-/

This is true, we were talking about that recently. I´ve been so fed-up with all the silly conversations going on (especially in the VS thread) and lack of humour, and also sad because of Baron´s leaving. But I realized than leaving won´t solve anything. I like my BZ family too much!
