Per your request, I'll write down my review of the 21 hour audiobook for 'Thinking Fast and Slow' . .

+ A Must Read- it essentially summarizes and simplifies his life's work for the general, non PhD in psychology audience. All humans should read this or be familiar with its research conclusions.

+ About 30 aspects of intuition- most centered on judgement, statistical thinking, logical errors, false perceptions, etc.

+ A unique read/listening experience- Most of us have never read a book about how intuition works.

+ I knew about 50% of it and a lot was common sense explained. But for myself and many readers, it must have been the first time they've seen it in organized writing and backed by many scientific studies.

+/- Kahneman's work is much of the foundations of the field of 'Behavioral Economics'. Personally, I'm not too impressed with this young branch of economics as it hasn't produced much research that is useful. Most of it sums up to 'good to know' advice. A lot of their insights revolve around mass behavior in the economy and financial markets.

+/- He won the Nobel Prize for prospect theory, and it only gets one brief chapter. He doesn't go much into why it was chosen and why it was important.

+/- It's not his fault that his explanations get weighty and dry sometimes.

- It's almost like a quasi-textbook/book so it's bloated with nonessential information about his scientific experiments.

- The PDF is 430 pages, and I'm guessestimating that about 100 pages could have been edited out.

- There is little mention of evolutionary psychology, and how it relates to human intuition. If he would bridge the psychological experiments with genetic programming, then much of his research conclusions would appear less clinical.

-When Kahneman comments occasionally about financial, management judgement, and business behavior, he runs on the edges of his circle of competence.

Thinking_Fast_and_Slow.jpg

Thank you Andy once again I like the insight, the pluses and minuses, well summed-up. I expect reviews like these from you in the future as well!

TFS is more about fashion trends, styles, clothes, designers, etc. and I find their 'femmes' forum to be a good source of new material (like BZ). But there is little warmth in that forum- everybody posts from their phones, and most of comments have no personality, are irrelevant anonymous opinions, or are excessively 'serious' about things of little interest to me. I couldn't care less if this or that model will serve this or that brand, designer, or fashion ideology better- even if I was a shareholder of that particular interest.

...so that's why I have zero posts there.

We all reach this moment of boredom in particular times,I know other known members here who told me also that they lost part of their interest in BZ,to each his reason. As for me I lost interest somehow lately, but for some reasons related to my kind of posts,I only like fashion when it comes to styles not the models at all,I only look at the clothes and designs and love all models and don't prefer ones over ones, but the forum isn't about styles and clothes,it's particularly about models themselves.

Loyal members, such as you,Jennka , Baron and others [i love BZ too]always find their way back and work it out ,never give up hope in BZ and never stop loving it,BZ is like home as I and Jennka previously expressed.

Fundamentally speaking, I like tall, thin, and very beautiful women exquisitely photographed in artistic settings and the HF world does attract many of these women & associated resources. I still maintain this interest, although there is a lack of 'new beauties' to me (which is natural, since I've been interested in models for almost 3 years).

For instance, I have Frida G's, Dewi Driegen, Catherine McNeil, Madison Headrick, and a few others' threads bookmarked this month so I'm still consistent.

TFS is very informative and up-to-date, but it´s a cold place, like Andy said. BZ is a home, it´s very special in this strong community sense. It gets personal from the first time you enter, because people actually care about each other (even in the sense of not liking each other, just like in every community ). Members here are personalities, not just nicknames

That is special, and great.

I always enjoy talking to you!

Lol same here with the coffee cakes and the smell. The smell itself is quite pleasant, but the pure taste of coffee - simply no. I used to like capuccino early in my teen days but then I realized that is NOT a coffee and that my kind of capuccino was more like a milk with cocoa, so I stopped drinking coffee totally.

Oh, we had this kind of storm during weekend, especially on Sunday evening it was huge. Lots of bolts, thunder - amazing. But it´s still cold in the morning - I always have to wear some kind of jacket, what pisses me off immensely because when going home from work I´m behunged with clothes because it´s already too hot for them, damn

That night skating sounds amazing. No traffic to shoot you down! When you try it, be sure to tell me how it went With the warmer weather and more free time during 2 weekends out of one month (because fl works those two weekends and we can´t go to the cottage) I´m trying to spend more time outside - having walks in the forest near us and vineyards, and I have to say I enjoy it absolutely, though being alone does not feel very good, but I will get used to I have already discovered many wonderful paths and places I would love to share with someone.

Did you left or not?

oh, and wait - what did you mean by "I bet this guy expects this girl to blow him". Because I have a seriously... erm, nasty picture in my mind now!!

Ok, though I doubt I'll do it this Thursday

I think I'll go to a park feed squirrels, the weather is too lovely not to do that

I did, yeah had to. Fortunately the rain and storm stopped by the time I had to go outside

And that's exactly what I meant, Jennka

Nice to be back with you all btw love your Marloes set donny! I also have some pics for you to see from my friend Mischo which I love

Also, and talk about coincidences: This was an interview Kendra Spears did recently. In fact, the timing of the interview coincides with my announcements. Is she reading your thread? Hey Kendra? Kendra! Post here...(lets hope for serendipity..):

Model Spotlight: Kendra Spears

Tell us the last book you read?

I am currently reading Thinking Fast and Slow, a book about how the mind works.

I just heard of this! Hopefully it will be a sign of busier times for her. She hasn't done much these past 1.5 years. I don't know the specifics, but either she retired for a while or her image was no longer so desired. The last good thing she did was Bottega..

Jennka, your back! Good to hear from you again.

So the saree is something like a national clothes in India?

Exactly. For a while sarees have been seen by younger Indian women as a little old fashioned but in the past few years a number of Indian designers have started to create more contemporary sarees and there's a, kind of, saree revival going on. This revival has also been helped by the fact that any female non-Indian celebrity visiting India seems to feel obliged to be seen in a saree at some point during their visit and now ordinary female tourists to India do too.

Do little girls get taught how to make it and wear it while little?

Actually no. Of course young girls do see their mothers, grandmothers and older sisters putting on sarees so they get the hang of it from them. Sarees are, however, more or less, a standard size and can only really be draped on an adult body, So girls can only start actually wearing sarees in their late teens. It's regarded as a, kind of, coming of age thing.

It´s amazingly beautiful. I just can´t stop staring it some pieces!

Yes, I'd agree with that.

btw how are you Tran? How is the house-work and all other things going on?

I'm great, thanks. The house hasn't changed much but, I don't know if I've mentioned this before, we've now hired a gardener to come in every two weeks (apart from a couple of months during the Winter) to tidy up the garden. He's doing a great job although it is looking a little bare now. Over the next few months we'll try to fill in some of the gaps with some new plants. As for work, we've now moved into our new area. Still settling in, ironing out the bugs but things are going okay. Working in central London rather than west London is a little different. Not better or worse just different. We're in an area that's traditionally where the fashion business in London is based. So lots of model agencies, photographers and fashion mags based here. The cafes around here are great places for people watching.

Lol' date=' that is also my fault, because I have this "Heineken" written right down in my profile ava But you and your misspelling of names and surnames is phenomenal - never give up that one, Joe!

Do you have a photography memory, Joe? Tell me more about that. And I want to know more about the scientific names too, because I´m very bad at learning them. I know like tens of models names, but I fail to remember people I actually care about unless I read a book from them - like Dawkins or John Taylor, one that comes to my mind is also Carl Sagan, but there are like thousands of them and I can´t simply remember them. Not even twenty of them!!

Lol at the English. But you are right in one sense becasue many people here take the knowledge of English for granted. That´s why I plan to teach my kids from the day they are born, I´d like to communicate with them only in English, so it would feel natural for them to speak in this language.

I´ve been learning Spanish for like 4 years and now I´m trying not to forget what I was taught lol, reading books and re-studying everything (I have bought myself a book for self-educating of Spanish). Reading Harry Potter in Spanish (I´m on part two, yay).

And this year I plan to take on Russian - I´m already checking language courses. I´ll see how that will go, there is still so much to learn in Spanish, and also practice my English, I hope I can handle three languages... my dream is to know as much languages as I can.

[/quote']

Reading things in other languages is great fun too. I haven't read much of the English Harry though so you're doubly ahead of me there . I also found that the English version of Pan's Labyrinth lost some things in translation . One thing about language is that some things just don't make sense translated. For example, what sense does a reference to a local proverb or slang make in another language? I guess it depends on how you break it down.

I personally don't much see the point of scientific names actually . Every one of them has a shorter, common equivalent. As to my memory, I literally have a room with several televisions like a super villain to take in as much information as possible to test my limits . I can remember page numbers of large books I've read years ago, people's phone numbers and birthdays from elementary school, but not some of their names . As a side note, Omega-3 (particularly the DHA) fatty acids have been shown to remarkably increase the memory function of rats in every lab study . Good luck with the language venture, its definitely worth it .

Yeah indeed. Although It does appear she is still visiting the place. Maybe she is just fed up with us

I always notice Jennka likes to read carefully what is written here on her own place and takes her full time to reply to it,so even if she visits BZ these days, she may be not having much time to read and reply as she get us used to it,so I'm sure she''ll try to have time and reply to all of her friends here.

BTW,I know you're joking on the last part of your post, but I also miss her and came here to express it too.

you know me, Mahi thank you for understanding. I hope you are feeling better now?

You're welcome,Jennka.Welcome back,dear. I'm ok,thank you for caring. So I was right when I said that

Loyal members, such as you,Jennka , Baron and others [i love BZ too]always find their way back and work it out ,never give up hope in BZ and never stop loving it,BZ is like home as I and Jennka previously expressed.

To expound on my plight of remembering everything but names, I'm looking for an artist who is famous for children's book art. I know that he's famous for his illustrations of towns of animals and a worm with a green hat and I even know June 5th is his birthday, but I don't know his name . I hope something in there rung a bell for you .

Ahoj!
