I am interested in your opinion, Arielle.

I disagree here, because what I see here are people even more beautiful than models or stars, just with less money and makeup and in cheaper clothes. AND also - the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so it´s hard to say something like this. For example I consider Angelina Jolie one of the most beautiful woman in the hollywood world, but my fruitlover finds her ugly (I was like, seriously, UGLY? Are you OK? But he just does not like her or find her attractive at all. He loves Sandra Bullock ). And so on and on.

Oh I agree, (but I think models are something special) I know several people that could easily replace some of the pop culture figures out there. Though I think that perception of beauty does have a certain manufactured consensus to it- as I have indicated earlier that isn't really shaped by individualism.

I think the underappreciated Eva Green- for a long time now, is one of the most, if not the most beautiful woman in hollywood. I am actually neutral regarding both Angela Jolie and Sandra Bollock! They are both physically attractive women but their personalities move my perceptions to neutral.

Well good for you but I stopped thinking much these days lol..not a brain girl -since many years I havent even debate.

Anyway, as you probably noticed I dont give a damn about beauty standards. Wherever they are, in Asia, America, high school. I just find that superficial and uninteresting. I want natural beauty. Someone goes on diet, gets nose surgery and all that stuff that are the standards, but isnt beautiful, that still wont do. Someone naturally beautiful can be fat, skinny, have big or small eyes, that will always do (quite logical to me) (and she can even set new standards). And I also think general people dont give a damn either (except maybe teenage girls).

Oh and yep, Eva Green, my

She's gorgeous.

But she's not underappreciated -except maybe here on BZ.

Right ? And that face, I love it. I think she stands out from the other models.

Hmm I guess we can say that. But I'm far from being a "scouter", just go on net and discover beautiful women on the way

Hope you´ll discover more of them here

Well dont be offended Jennka but I've seen your face and I think you're more beautiful than most of the models here

I think in both the showbiz and real life there are the same bunch of more beautiful/and more average ones.

Absolutely agree here. It´s not about how you look - it´s always about what you do. Damn, I know so many girls that could be easily models or actresses or even singers - but they are docs, vets, cleaning ladies, students... they just don´t find modeling that atractive.

Oh, and thank you for that compliment, from now on, I´m gonna be nosy as hell...

I have the EXACT same reaction. Everytime I hear 'Angelina Jolie is ugly' I just want to punch people in the face! Because I find AJ very very beautiful and though I can understand some people may not see it ugggh it is just getting on my nerves

I hate also:

'Susan Coffey is a photoshopped beauty' (ugggh no comment)

'Sophie Marceau is average.' (come on..if she's average what about the others?)

'Gisele bundchen is ugly' (are they blind?)

'Carla Bruni is ugly but she has attitude'

haha, exactly as a fan of Gisele, I´ve heard many times "how could it be she is supermodel? HOW can she earn most of them all? She is ugly." my fruitlover doesn´t like her either but he finds Alessandra Ambrosio very sexy.

Models are not something special. I meet women like that every day, they just do something different than modeling. Models nowadays are very diverse, they vary from ultra-thin to well-rounded. Anyone can be a model.

I don´t know any standard of beauty, and won´t follow it either. As arielle has written, it´s boring and uninteresting. There is beauty everywhere, in every shape and kind. We all have our "it" that makes "it" for us (e.g. fruitlover loves brunettes with brown eyes more, but that doesn´t mean he won´t like any other kind of women, on the contrary, he loves asian types with dark hair and dark eyes as much as I do, and, ironically, dates me, a white brunette with blue eyes), but that´s all. One woman is beautiful for this and this, and ugly or uninteresting for others.

I like Eva Green and her deep beauty

Hi Jennka,

Oh, communist picture of ideal beauty is always tan, brave peasant girl this is "communist international" we had it here too. Together with pictures of an "ideal communist" and such bullshits.

This is true with communism and more even aggressively, in fascism. It is just one of a large array of tactics that totalitarian governments have used to realize an ideology and further allegiance to it. In PRC, Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, and other places the old culture was purged to varying degrees and replaced.

I think people love "exotic look" in the whole world all the same. Just as in asian or arabic countries people consider "exotic" caucasian appearance, e.g. here in Slovakia we consider exotic Asian or African or Indian look (and you should see the huge rant about it as to sexual attraction.) It´s something "special", "exotic", more beautiful than the average looking Slovak woman. So men here really go for it. Eventhough we have many, many Asian people here (they are mostly businessmen, and I love their stores).

I guess this does not count to big international cities such as London, Paris, Madrid, Washington D.C., New York... but generally speaking, people love "exotic" looking people that are not average in their country. It´s just something "different", more interesting than most of what you are used to

and as to beautiful people... hard to tell, beauty means something different to everyone. And even models now are... very wide range, if you know what I mean. There are skinny models, curvy models, white, black, orange, brown, blue, yellow, green... tiny and heavy and all kinds of women. If you ask today "what does a woman have to look like to be a model?" there isn´t a proper and right answer. So I guess anyone can be a model nowadays.

Well, there is a "science" of beauty and there are certain facial and physical ratios that are usually common with male & female attraction. You may find me more attractive, for instance, if I was 190 cm rather than 178. A man may find a woman more attractive if she has bigger breasts & hips, etc. Young skin over old skin. It's more like a general template. Personally, I've always found tall women that still retain feminine bone structure - 5' 8'' to 6'0'' especially attractive. I like the typical "model template"- it's my thing, and not everybody shares this proclivity.

There are also dramatic differences among different cultures- for instance in many parts of Africa obese women are seen as generally attractive while thin women are less pursued. An intangible and unstated institutional imperative, formed as a consequence of the environment may be what is responsible for this.

What I find special about some models is how they have a combination of physical features- often unexceptional at a singular basis but as a whole have a special attractive effect.

But yes, individual perceptions are an intrinsic part of the whole schema.

You're right, nothing is really exotic in the NY metropolitan area. Everyone has seen much of what's out there.

I call it "charisma". For me, there aren´t really ugly people. Just people with ugly souls. More later if you want

Well, Jennka, you know that I am not accustomed to believing that people have souls...

I think people can "become" ugly and accumulate a lot of character defects but this is, to some extent, reversible. As individuals age these mental habits become more and more irreversible through character reinforcement. And whether someone perceives them as ugly or attractive depends on what they themselves are...

I was actually hoping that you could tell me about what you know about East Asia and their perceptions of beauty :-)

Anyway, as you probably noticed I dont give a damn about beauty standards. Wherever they are, in Asia, America, high school. I just find that superficial and uninteresting. I want natural beauty. I think we all have beauty ideals, and these ideals move around in various permutations depending on our current state of mind.

I find Eva's aura absolutely outstanding. I feel that Eva is under appreciated by the film front rank- A young actresses' operational lifespan is often limited and she has only been able to secure one film role a year. I believe that the market should evolve to suit Eva!

In PRC, Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, and other places the old culture was purged to varying degrees and replaced.

I think every ideology has this "ideal human" picture. And the whole idealization process by which they organize, command and control people.

I love models/women af all kinds - tall, short, with short hair, long hair... I can´t even tell, what a model has to have for me to like her

I call it "charisma". For me, there aren´t really ugly people. Just people with ugly souls. More later if you want

And whether someone perceives them as ugly or attractive depends on what they themselves are...

I wrote it in Baron´s thread, so I just copy&paste it here:

And also, people tend to change in my eyes. Once I get to know them and take a fancy in them, they become... beautiful for me. No matter what others say, I find every one of their feature beautiful. And on the contrary, if there is someone I don´t like, somehow the person becomes ugly, no matter how "beautiful" is he/she viewed by other people.

I noticed that you included the macho man #1

I've talked to professional home builders before and it's really something to hear them talk about projects where they supervised ground to roof and finally sign off. With manufacturing jobs outsourced they are among the minority of people that can actually build something substantial that they can see, smell, & touch. There seems to be a lot of hard work and risk taking involved but also lot of long lasting satisfaction accrued once the job is done

Yeah he´s the dirty boy we were knocking down the old chimney so we can build up a new one and we all looked like that

When you meet builders that love their work, it´s really something. There are many building companies here, but it´s not very common to come across REAL profi workers who love their work and have moderate prices. We had luck we´ve come across a bunch of men who knew their work very well and we have learnt many things from them.

But yes, the satisfaction once the job is done is amazing. You look at something you have built by your own hands and feel such a pride. Gorgeous.

I just want to come hitch up on my horse and drink homebrew in the Slovakian summer with you, your man and Yeti (of course! )
