Can't complain, sir! salutes.gif How goes it in your neck of the woods?

Things are going swell here. Finally getting over this heat we have been receiving, luckily it wasn't more humid hot weather though Cooler weather has been coming our way since last night and continues all the way into Saturday

How goes the biking?

I don't know whether your musical knowledge extends to classical or not, but are you by any chance familiar with a Russian composer with a really long last name that ends in ff? I'm at least somewhat sure that it starts with R. Actually, I can't be sure that he's even Russian now that I think about it . I said Indie was the final frontier for me, but its probably classical seeing as how my dislike for some of the snobbery often associated with the culture caused me to not get into it as much as I would have liked. That along with the fact that on the radio, they generally only say the names of the songs most people already know .

What was Scott Pilgrim vs. The World about? From the look of it it seems like another teenage comedy with a hint of fantastic world (reason why I still have not seen it ). Maybe you can get me into the picture?

Suzy really does remind of young Lana though I´m not a fan of Lana much, she seems to have one face for everything (and her mouth is scary). There was something about Suzy that got me stare at her, really captivating. The whole idea of the island was priceless. Also, Edward Norton and Bruce Willis are my favourite actors, and they did just amazing.

Do you have any other Wes Anderson movies to recommend?

I’d definitely recommend checking out 'Scott Pilgrim' if at all possible. It’s a lot more than just another Michael Cera movie about a hapless wet lettuce in love (although you do get that too ), it’s a really brilliant non-superhero comic book adaptation, and for anyone brought up on arcade or video games, comics, martial arts or anime, it’s a treat. The soundtrack is great, the action and pacing are lightning fast and every other line is a zinger.

I don’t believe there's ever been a bad Wes Anderson movie, just some you could argue are stronger than others. Chances are that if you like 'Moonrise', you'll like them all, as they each pack a similar mixture of gentle humour, charm and eccentric characters, but if I had to pick a favourite, I'd probably go with 'The Royal Tenenbaums'. There's a huge ensemble cast, and the characters are all written so well that there's something to enjoy about all of them.

Good good.

It's not bad, I was hoping to branch out into trying out a few different routes here and there (I'm getting a touch bored with my usual one) but my plans have been waylaid slightly by the recent wet weather. I'm going to try and get out as much as possible in the next couple of weeks though, we've been told to brace ourselves for heavy snowfall towards the end of October.

I will admit to only really having a cursory knowledge of classical music, but I do know of a Russian composer by the name of Rachmaninoff. Could he be your guy?

So, this is the best new band I saw live in my 'time-out'  . I'm sure I'm not bringing anything new to you here, but I felt I needed to acknowledge this thread that's appeared in my absence with some - what else but - kick-ass indie music  :

I know the feeling! I suppose in today's footballing world, Ajax have become something akin to second class citizens who are condemned to 'getting players ready' for the more cash-rich clubs elsewhere in Europe, which is a great shame as historically they're one of the most successful clubs in the world. I loved their fantastic Champions League winning side of the mid-90s.

Got any more games lined up to watch, Joe?

Thanks Baron, your presence here is most welcome! salutes.gif

Heard a few tracks by Temples now and have made a mental note to give the album a shot. I’ve also been listening to a fair bit of Drenge lately, another band contributing to the apparent 'guitar revival' this year. You may have seen them on the Jools show on its first week back...

Sounds like winter is planning her revenge and soon! Had a chance to try out any new routes or has mother nature been on her rag lately?

And have you by chance picked up GTA V yet?

Alas, plans are on hold for the moment as the weather this past week has been all over the map, both literally and figuratively.

I have indeed, my copy landed on the doormat late last week. I'm progressing pretty slowly at the moment, but it's definitely a winner so far. The storyline and voice acting are spot on, there are millions of things to do and the map is ridiculously huge. Already been eaten by a number of mountain lions, too. Are you planning on giving it a whirl?

^ Ah great, mother nature is on her rag then Come to California for some great biking weather?

Mountain lions eh? But yes, I have heard a great deal of good this game offers for those who love the GTA series especially the map size And I don't plan on purchasing it just now but we shall see if I get it once it's out for PC

By any chance have you experienced a HUGE bug where cars disappear once stored in the garage yet? There was a good story running on that today in the Yahoo headlines.

Sounds like a plan.

I had wondered if that was a bug. I've been a victim of it a couple of times so far, but because the game allows you to jump in and out of the lives of your three lead characters (who each have a default vehicle), I wasn't sure if it was intentional or not. Occasionally, when you're ready to progress to the next checkpoint, you have to initiate a brief 'passage of time' sequence that drives the narrative forward, and that's when your parked cars vanish from the garage. I was never that big on storing stuff in the previous GTAs, but since this one has an option to actually buy in souped-up vehicles at great expense (to your character, that is ), it really is quite the gaffe.

^ Yup, darn bug my friend Jeezes I wonder now, how many times has that happened to you so far? LOL, great expense to your character but time on your part too

I'm guessing a patch of some kind will come out soon or else I see this as quite the annoying bug considering you can't cruise in your cherried-out ride due to it pulling a David Copperfield on you

Apparently, some safehouses are more reliable than others for saving your cars. Since I've yet to determine which is which, I'll probably just wait for whatever patch appears.

I remember in the previous games, I would occasionally try and save cars that were unique to certain missions or that I didn't expect to see again (like, say, The Truth's rather snazzy camper van), but I never really got into the customising much, for pretty much all the same reasons listed.

But yeah, your character can go online using his mobile phone and order rare vehicles. Bug or not, it’s not really an option that I could see myself having much inclination to use, but it’s there for those who do want it. Also, when you own the airfield like in the old San Andreas, you can buy in new planes and helicopters. That may prove to be a little more fun, though I must say, the newly-tweaked (and highly sensitive) helicopter controls are absolutely ghastly.

^I'm familiar with Anamanaguchi via the soundtrack of 'Scott Pilgrim: The Game', though I always had them down as more of a 'mucking about at home with a laptop' kind of act than an actual touring band. I'd be most interested to see them if the chance arose. Temples and Drenge land in Newcastle in October too, I'm hoping to catch both.

Did you hear the second series of the original Bridge is due back on BBC4 in January?

^There's positively a surfeit of The Bridge currently, isn't there?!   What with the US one, and now this UK/France one (which I would have been rather interested in - given that it has Clémence Poésy   - but I don't have bastard Sky Atlantic  ). But this is the best news: the return of George Galloway!

^Most definitely with you on that. From what I understand, they're already about halfway through the second series in Scandinavia, so needless to say I'm appalled that the Beeb is making us wait until the new year! :persuazn:

Quite honestly, I was a bit surprised that the Anglo-French version still ended up happening, but I did spot Clémence in the trailer, which is all the encouragement I'll be needing to watch. Starting to think the US one might have passed me by though, I keep seeing talk of it online but can't seem to find out when it starts or what channel it's on. <_<
