a2estf.jpg

I like cactus but only before I jump into them..

I love peach trees. Haven't gone picking (anything) for years. There's always one or two super trees in an orchard..

jumping into cactuses isn´t pleasure for me either

peach trees are wonderful, same as cherry trees and apple trees, and pear trees they are gorgeous

(Still haven't figured out how to multiquote within the same post yet though... )

^I have an almond and olive mini-orchard in Spain - neither of them are particularly blessed in the beauty stakes, but I thought you might like to see the terra:

And, for Jennka, there's some cacti knocking about there too(!):

I saw a magazine cover for the film and am rather surprised that they decided to make January's costume white lingere!

About your produce: do these two high officials come to enforce your peasant tribute?

^Why that there's a pretty good facsimile of me and my man Paco! Although I'm not quite so deluded. But I still make Paco tilt at the windmills for me - just in case...

As for Ms. Jones's scant costumes, again it's in reference to the character's first appearances. The 'White Queen', as was custom for all female members of the Hellfire Club wore this kind of 18th century 'period' lingerie (actually itself based on an episode of The Avengers - the cult Brit spy show). I'm sure it was all justified at the time!

Mine are little more than fancy weeds! Actually, I shall be visiting Spain the week after next as I'm coming over to attend a wedding in France in July. But I normally visit once a year as both my parents live in Europe now (mother in the UK, father in Spain).

Hello Baron, I have a question

It seems like you've been to a lot of countries. Still, there must be some you haven't visited yet so, do you have a list of 3 (or 5) countries you've never been to and would love to visit? And which country you've been to surprised you the most, in a way that you found it to differ a lot from what you've expected it to be?

Ok, that's not just 1 question but I hope you can answer these

You know your X- Men Baron. (Y)

I just think that the selection of that particular wonderbra-esque top was..well, odd. It's just not something that I would expect JJ to wear. I've always thought that the X-men series needed better costumes. While they can't ever be as dramatic as the comic, the matching uniforms thing common throughout the series has always seemed to me to be an odd creative choice.

Did you like the Wolverine movie? I thought it was cheesy, but it did seem to have considerable lost potential.

....

I love this picture of Carmen (Neferti posted it, I think it's from 2006). She looks statuesque and intimidating :

^Without doubt number 1 on my list that I haven't visited is Japan... I've wanted to go for years, but it's just not been practical due to time and finances. However, last year I was dating a Japanese lady who was studying music here for a year or so - which only cemented my interest in the country. She had to return to Tokyo ( ), but we've stayed in touch and I hope to go soon and visit her.

Other than that (and I hope this doesn't sound too sycophantic?) but I've always quite fancied Poland too. My only visit to Eastern Europe was Bulgaria, which I enjoyed - food apart - but Poland (and Krakow in particular) seems a beautiful and interesting place, due to it's historical importance within the continent.

I would also like to explore the Pacific islands like Tonga, Vanuatu, and especially Fiji. When I was living in Lebanon I met a group of Fijian UN soldiers on the Israeli border who were the most physically imposing yet laid-back and jolly people you could wish to meet. They also introduced me to guava juice - which I now adore!

As for being surprised by countries, I have to say that national stereotypes tend to contain a kernel of truth in my experience! I suppose I didn't know much about the Finns before I visited there (when I was working in Sweden), so their crazy drinking antics, "knockabout" knife-fighting, and genuine air of mystery really was enlightening!

How about you? It's a big world out there, no?

^I did enjoy it - but then, when it comes to such things, I suppose I'm easily pleased! The sheer geek-joy of seeing certain characters or episodes of "history" overrides any cynicism!

Mainly, I hope that the mooted "The Wolverine" will get made. It's supposed to deal with Logan's time in Japan and (the fictional island) Madripoor - where he learns his Samurai code and falls in love with a local lady... bf073260e986381d7696a5e.gif

As for the costumes - yes, I agree. I can see why they were appropriate for this last movie though, the 'first class' of X-Men sported this similar 'blue and yellow' look (latterly used by the New Mutants - for that team of X-Men-in-training; changed to a 'crimson and yellow' generic costume for Generation X - a third team of youngsters). Around the time the first movie came out - during the writer Grant Morrison's run on the comic - this 'all black' look was being used in print too. It didn't last long as the fans didn't really like it - and actually I don't know what came first in that chicken and egg way!

Wow - that does all sound like I know my 'stuff' as you put it Mr. Icon! I'd like to point out that I do read more than just comic books(!), but I'm also not dismissive of them. In fact, I think they're the third "Great American Art Form" - up there with Jazz and Baseball...

^Spot on! You may know that there was a fair amount of discord in my country of birth in the 70's and early 80's which led to us leaving and my father never coming back to live here (although he does visit regularly)? It was all rather complicated as a child - but it's resulted in my privilege of having lived in several countries, and subsequent wanderlust...

Interesting but for some reason I thought you've been to Japan before!

No, it doesn't, but you know I'd prefer if you singled out Warsaw or Gdansk. Or you could make a little trip to the Tricity (Gdansk, Gdynia, Sopot)-Gdansk being Magdalena's hometown and Sopot with that weird bulding the photo of which I posted once in Architecture thread here

Is guava juice expensive in Argentina? I saw it here several days ago and it was so expensive.... a little bottle costed as much as 0,5l of Malibu... though I don't know if this 'metric' is accurate, I mean, I don't know if prices of alcohol in Argentina are similar to the ones here.... but I guess it's not like Norway with their ridiculous prices.

Hmmm I haven't been to many countries, and I don't know if I could make a top 3 (or 5) countries to visit, there are obviously many countries I'd love to visit but I don't dream about any country much more intensively than others... although I know I'd love to visit Singapore, and the ABC (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao) islands. Well, the Caribbeans in general.

And obviously, Buenos Aires sounds like a nice city though not now, with this dust from Chile I saw your city yesterday on tv news and it looked pretty serious, with people walking around in hygienic masks.

^I'm biased, obviously, but I think this is a beautiful city - it's my favourite city anyways! Actually, the cloud isn't as bad here as elsewhere. They have closed the airport, and there's been lots of ash in the provinces - but here in the centre of the city it's just hazy. There was a massive forest fire on the Uruguayan border a few years ago, and the smoke that came from that was much worse...

Alcohol here is quite cheap I guess, cheaper than in the UK and Spain, and much much cheaper than Sweden (which, I guess, is similar to Norway tax-wise? ). Guava juice isn't easy to get hold of, but I drink it all the time when I'm in the UK!

I suppose I could go and stalk Magdalena when I visit, and just hang around Gdansk - but then I still managed to miss her when she was almost literally around the corner here a few months ago! 17433.gif Tell me though - she's just one of many Polish beauties, no?

And maybe I've just talked at length on Japan before? Like I said, it's been an ambition for years - and I've a keen interest in several aspects of culture there (+ a few 'Gravure Idols'! ), so I might have implied a more authoritative knowledge than I actually have! I liked Singapore too - it really is VERY clean...
