oh, yeah Joe!

So were grapes and many other things. But no one takes grapes to a date which is, if you ask me, such a badluck

I agree.

Another problem with chocolate: Chocolate breath!

I'm sure there is some sort of historical link to these things being romantic, just as there are in many 'festival' accoutrements... I mean, it's well known that chocolate was the bollocks after the Europeans "discovered" the Americas (indeed cocoa-beans were even currency in parts of what is now Mexico), so that could easily be seen as some sort of grandiose gesture - as was any new genus of flower. But also back then people went mad for pineapples, they flaunted them as status-symbols, gave them to lovers as tokens of affection, and even decorated homes and gardens with stone pineapple statues! But, for some reason, flowers and chocolates haven't faded away as all that pineapple love has...

I like the Dutch tulip mania: One of the most ridiculous speculative asset bubbles:

" At the peak of tulip mania, in February 1637, some single tulip bulbs sold for more than 10 times the annual income of a skilled craftsman. It is generally considered the first recorded speculative bubble (or economic bubble),[3] "

Goods allegedly exchanged for a single bulb of the Viceroy[28]

And have you had a particularly bad encounter with a chocolate eating amore then? I can't say it's ever been a foodstuff that's lingering 'taste' has troubled me...

Baron

Lets get married!

^I've told you before (via D.H Lawrence):

I, the man with the red scarf,

Will give thee what I have, this last week's earnings.

Take them, and buy thee a silver ring

And wed me, to ease my yearnings.

For the rest, when thou art wedded

I'll wet my brow for thee

With sweat, I'll enter a house for thy sake,

Thou shalt shut doors on me.

(I've left a video for you on your thread though my inamorata...)

But that Eddie McGuire presents it in your country and, by being the President of Collingwood Football Club, we know he talks shit...

I went to Melbourne and watched some footy over the weekend. The Pies smashed a sorry St Kilda outfit.

Sydney absolutely destroyed the Brisbane Lions too

Oh.. We've all done strange things with food..

I don't give chocolates as gifts. It's a commodity- even Godivas and freshly made chocolate from specialty bakeries. Godivas and others go for maybe 20-$ 40 a box and but the chocolate itself is just Lindt grade. Lindt sells for a fraction of the price...

I hate to break up the good vibes, but it seems to me I have a serious problem . I love pancakes, but they make me really sleepy . Well, I guess the answer is to eat them for dinner instead of breakfast so nevermind . Actually, I have another problem and that's there's a couple places with all you can eat pancakes and I find that I can't eat nearly as many as I assumed I could :| . But even when I get over that, I kindof have a problem with the people that come with secret tuberware containers to bleed the places dry and some of them I know aren't that poor. It seems if everyone were like that they will have to end the all you can eat because they wouldn't be able to afford it. Either way, I try to look at the positive and I still get to enjoy something I love so I should just focus on that I guess .

^I'd like to comment more on this, but the AFL review show isn't on here until tonight - and I like to keep the surprise of who won until then (unless I get to see a live match like last week). From what I've seen of those teams so far this season though: the 'Pies have been brilliant ( :yuckky: ), whilst St. Kilda and Brisbane have been dire - so no great surprises I guess?!

As an aside, when I was living in Melbourne, St. Kilda were actually my local team - but there was NO WAY ON EARTH a man with Fratton blood running through his veins could ever bring himself to cheer on the 'Saints'!!! :yuckky:

The Doggies have been awful too. I've been pretty wrapped with the Eagles' year so far, and your Blues are absolutely flying. Have to ask though - what do you think of the baby blue 'away' gear they've been sporting this year?

^Actually, yes. There's been some aggro down here about the borders. Although the volcano is in Chile, the smoke is blowing into Argentina and there's been evacuations from some of our towns - but Chile has stopped anyone entering their country, despite all relevant services being geographically much closer than anything on our side (and it being technically their fault - I'm aware that volcanos have little interest in national borders by the way! ). I'm on the other side of the country, but places on the outskirts of this province say their cars have been covered in ash.

Thought you might like to see some of the news pictures though - pretty damn awesome (in the truest sense of the word):

^Letters can always come back and bite you on the arse! At least flowers and chocolates have a finite span... But I'd like to think I tailor my romantic gestures in lieu with what a lady wants. Not in a calculating, mercenary, way - but rather when you get to know somebody you figure out what makes them tick and what makes them happy. Whilst I stick with my dismissal of flowers and chocolates as viral memes for the unimaginative - if a girlfriend has expressed any such desire for such a thing then I'd feel inclined to provide it (with a customary Baron flourish, naturally! ). But - I'd like to think anyway - I wouldn't be dating a lady with such a narrow view of romance to see these as the height of expressing one's love... I'm sure we'd come to some sort of arrangement over time, and I'd enlightened her!!! 1062wine.gif
