Film buffs question: Why do hard-core Film buffs hate Ridley Scott?
I like his films, actually!
Ridley Scott brought us Blade Runner and Alien...

^happy WINDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSDAY Baron
^I didn't know they did, actually? I can understand them hating Tony Scott (his younger brother), as he's always struck me as being very much style over substance and not much better than the much-maligned Brett Ratner (a plodding journeyman if there was ever one!); and is only a few rungs above Michael Bay in the fetishism of explosions, pointless shouting and general noise covering up lack of finesse - though way beyond him in hideous portrayals of non-estadounidense (but then he is British)...Film buffs question: Why do hard-core Film buffs hate Ridley Scott?
But, back to Ridley, Alien alone is surely enough to appreciate his skills? That film was an masterclass in claustrophobia and tension, not to mention self-restraint in use of the 'monster'. I was massively surprised when I saw your list on the "proper" thread you started - in that except the most recent ones I've seen them all!
As it is, I've highlighted mine here:
1977 The Duellists
1979 Alien
1982 Blade Runner
1985 Legend
1987 Someone to Watch Over Me
1989 Black Rain
1991 Thelma & Louise
1992 1492: Conquest of Paradise
1996 White Squall
1997 G.I. Jane
2000 Gladiator
2001 Hannibal
Black Hawk Down
2003 Matchstick Men
2005 Kingdom of Heaven
2006 A Good Year
2007 American Gangster
2008 Body of Lies
2010 Robin Hood
2012 Prometheus
Sure, there have been some mistakes. Neither he (nor Russell Crowe) should necessarily attempt "comedy" again with A Good Year - although both the scenery and Marion Cotillard looked wonderful and kept me watching!
And 1492 was just plain boring.
But Matchstick Men is an oft-forgotten little gem, Gladiator is just plain awesome, and Hannibal happens to be one of my most favourite films - it's pure grand guignol; a lot of people said it was 'hammy', yes maybe, but I think intentionally. Anthony Hopkins may not be as scary in this as in the other Hannibal Lecter films - but he's wonderfully funny, and the film is superbly paced and particularly evocative when in Florence... ![]()

So I started reading the Danger Girls comic series. It´s great
Especially I do fancy Sidney ![]()

You wanna send me one of your fine Argentian women for some Bc wine? ![]()

(Y)
He had me at Alien too ![]()
I must say, I've never heard this hate for Scott either though <_<

^I don't know - are you going to read my reply anyway? You wanna send me one of your fine Argentian women for some Bc wine?![]()
I mean - I'm still awaiting some sort of response to this interchange: http://www.bellazon.com/main/index.php?s=&...t&p=2646989 / http://www.bellazon.com/main/index.php?s=&...t&p=2648355
Just saying (again)!!! ![]()

^Can't say I've ever read it - I was aware of it though... I realised very early on that, although I like comic-books, I really can't stand comic-book people! And so I'd go in knowing I was getting my X-Men fix, and then skidaddle out of there without having to deal with any of them (or breathe in, if you know what I mean? :yuckky:So I started reading the Danger Girls comic series. And, as I saw on your thread Jennka, yes - Isabeli could easily pull that look off...
^Maybe it's a US thing?(Y)He had me at Alien too

(Loved that Alien emoticon, btw!)

This is interesting, as I've encountered several individuals expressing this (and they were widely separated on different occasions). They were also hard core film and art buffs that talked down on Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg's films in the typically elitist way that buffs always do, heh heh. The complaints seem to be of their own realm-film techniques, story presentation, emotional manipulations, etc.
I've never asked (it would expose my ignorance and cause some awkwardness), but it's always been one of the "huh?" sort of things.
^If only...

I liked Red Dragon... that's about it:> Ralph Fiennes is consistently intriguing in just about everything he's been in.
Brett Ratner is associated with the highly ghetto "New York Film Academy" in Union Square Park, Manhattan. It is located on top of a liquor store. I liked "The Rock", but allocating $300-200 million of capital to Michael Bay per film is profitable but at the same time, unfortunate..

And I think that the Xenomorph in Aliens is the most frightening creature ever created in horror!
Alien, Aliens, the Thing, and the first 3 "Hannibal lector" films are my favorite horror films. I would personally love to see a series of human army vs. Xenomorph films being make today. Too bad..

Hey, Baron, I know this may be a crazy question, but I was thinking if I'm writing some books (even though no one else knows about them and they're just for my own entertainment right now) and there's so many books out there already, how do I know something I think is my own thought isn't already in a book somewhere
?

^I love The Thing. It was television here late the other night and I watched it again for the umpteenth time!Alien, Aliens, the Thing, and the first 3 "Hannibal lector" films are my favorite horror films. Have to say though, when it comes to actually scary films - then it's Japan and Korea for me. Ju-On, Ringu - ![]()
There's something about the eeriness, and the sheer weirdness of Asian horror that unsettles me. Hideo Nakata, the great director said this about it, better than me(!): This may sound too simple but Asian ghosts can stand just behind you and can stare at you and doesn't say anything, just stands and stares at the main character. And that could be scary from our point of view... Whereas western movies, in general, westerns ghosts are an evil existence and are meant to do something to the victims, they attack the victims. So that is a difference that active feeling, the aggressiveness of the apparition in the western horror movies whereas in the Asian ones it's not.
David Lynch's work I find unsettling in a similar way. It's unexplained. Just - weird. That scares me much more than psychopaths and 'monsters'....

It feels like an age since I last got to use that!!!
But, really? Cool! And you needn't worry as everybody does that anyway. After all - there are only 3 stories in the world:
1. Someone goes on a journey
2. Boy meets girl
3. A stranger arrives in town
Every story boils down to one of (or a combination of) those! ![]()

^Surely the joy of those particular genres is that you an simply make it all up?To be honest, the biggest fear I have isn't even the actual writing, but knowing enough about just general things (laws, technology ect.) to not have overt flaws in that area in real world stories even though I want to write Sci-Fi/Fantasy too.
I mean, every universe has its laws - but you just invent a new one. Look at vampires these days, there are at least 3 (off the top of my head) TV/film series running concurrently now that all have differing versions of what vampires can and can't do. My vampires are all called Dave and hold middle-management positions in the accounts department of a freight-haulage business that runs out of branches on the north-eastern US seaboard. They are allergic to garlic, but only in as much as it makes them sneeze a lot. They drink blood, but Jagermeister will suffice; and when they look in a mirror they see hideously racist 'blackface' versions of themselves singing "Mammy". They can only be killed by stakes hewn from tennis racquets used in the four 'Grand Slam' tournaments since the advent of the professional era in 1968. See?

^Oh, and when are you admin-types going to overhaul the emoticon list? I've been waiting for that "Lame" one to be added for aaages! That and some more personalised ones - I mean we still have those attributed to Dinah or Neo or Nicole (to name but a few), but that's sooo 2004!!!![]()
![]()
Well, that definitely makes me feel better
. And yeah, I should have used that emoticon myself
.

^Nor do I, I hope you know?Perhaps this isn't the appropriate thread to have this discussion, but I've long been an advocate of the Asian lady - and have contributed to (and even started some of) their threads on the 'Other Females Of Interest' forum. Problem is though, since Hime has gone, nobody else was posting or commenting there so I've stopped of late...
These are mainly Japanese/Korean Gravure-Idols and Race-Queens - but some Chinese ladies too. I'm a recent fan of a Chinese model called Li Ying Zhi, but just haven't bothered to start a thread for her because of said indifference.
Yes, I do ![]()
And I even google searched Li Ying Zhi she's interesting. I'll post some of the asian babes I like or interesting ones on here maybe, if I have the time. Problem is I'm always kind of super busy.
Yeah I know how it feels to start a thread with nobody else ever posting. I'm interested in asian beauty too (started to get interest last year), and I often visit asian girls' thread on BZ, but never have posted. It is never worthless.
I stopped posting there too, Baron. I'm sorry!
I will start again! I was mourning the loss of SYJ but I will start again.
Hwang and RJH are there should in I go!
I should also take care of Park Shin Hye's thread since it was left alone ![]()

^Please do.And I even google searched Li Ying Zhi she's interesting. I'll post some of the asian babes I like or interesting ones on here maybe, if I have the time. Problem is I'm always kind of super busy.
^I see you already have!I stopped posting there too, Baron. I'm sorry!I will start again! I was mourning the loss of SYJ but I will start again.
I'm not quite up to starting any new threads yet (you'll have to wait, Risa Yoshiki) - but you have inspired me to post some lovely Ju Daha shots I've been sitting on.

So I started reading the Danger Girls comic series. It´s greatEspecially I do fancy Sidney
I have an internet copy, too ![]()
Hey, glad you like Danger Girl, Jennka. The quality of the comic is significantly better than standard fair- the artist seems to have put his heart into it.
how about Natalia? Honestly, she does remind me of Anne V., except more aggressive & intense..

). the unfortunate side-effect of that is that you don't get to browse either. Although the Danger Girl covers were often very noticeable!

Oh, wait, you got to explain this one for me. How is this "can´t stand the comic people" thing? You mean the people around your that read comicses and you found them... at least weird?
like geeks or so? ![]()
still there is the internet, where you can find samples at least - read it and then buy it
I agree the covers of Danger Girl are very noticeable
