I was never really able to gage how popular general comcis are among Asian people since all the ones I know personally are Asian American rather than native though I assume Manga thrives in Japan of course. I never noticed black people being known as elite comic enthusiasts though. I probably would have put black people last if anything . I can't speak for other countries or even every region of this country of course, but down here many black people call me deep or the comic guy when I consider many really deep fans pretty far out and I'm considered a casual reader to most fans. Of course, those at Comic Con level or the the general ones who can tell you what issue Green Lantern's fish died in would likely choke at the thought of me being called the comic guy now that I think of it. I can definitely understand not liking Anime, Manga or comics though. I'd say my reading is generally geared toward the Sci-Fi fantasy arena in general and some of that caries over to comics, though I'm generally more likely to go for the regular book variety. That said, I love writing and art, so I naturally gravitate to some comics on the other hand.

As to which ones I like. Off the top of my head, my favorites are probably also Neon Genesis Evangelion (even though I haven't seen the whole thing yet), the Ninja Scroll Movie, Kenshin, Akira (the comic), High School of the Dead (which is admittedly guilty of a few of those items up there but is hilarious ), Naruto, Basalisk, Cowboy Bebop, Dragonball Z, and Samarai Champloo come most imediately to mind .

Lol, Joe, that list is just SO right

I love anime and manga... and Kenshin really stands out in them, great story, great characters, wonderful drawings and the movie I´ve seen was pretty amazing too. I just fell in love.

Then there is Wolf´s rain which I never had the pleasure to watch all the series but it´s pretty amazing... even more that I seriously love wolves

There has been more... but now I do not recall the names as for anime movies...

Grave of the Fireflies - I cried through the whole movie like never before and never after. They warned me, I did not believe them... I deserve that Usually I do not like watching war films, but this one has it all - reality tough.

Mononoke Hime / Princess Mononoke - one of the best films I´ve ever seen. The neverending fight between people and nature, and you can guess that it doesn´t have a really good ending... plus lots of blood and death. Even through its brutality, honesty and cruelness you can sense the love, the softness and of course deep theme of the whole movie... I love the fact that characters were not black and white. Even the lady I hated since beginning was a good woman afterall - and Mononoke, the main chara, with her pure and wild heart could get pretty nasty at times... and the animals, oh my - the best drawn animals in movie industry so far.

Yes, I´m a huge fan of Ghibli studios - those guys just know how to do things damn great - Howl´s Moving Castle, Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi / Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky...

There were also a lot of anime movies in comic-cons I´ve seen, but I never really remembered those names

Oh, and yeah. Neon Genesis Evangelion was pretty gorgeous too.

Its somewhat ironic that everything you listed there that I didn't was on my to watch list . I only put some off because I heard some were pretty deep and I usually watch things after a long day, but I've heard they were amazing though.

They indeed are - but I absolutely understand that you might not be in the mood to watch such movies after a long day. I am the same... recently the only movies I like to watch are comedies, Red Dwarf or czech funny and witty theathre plays (Cimmerman)... I just really need to rest and watch something funny and light.

But I asure you that Howl´s Moving Castle and Spirited Away are those most-funny and easy to watch... you just sit dow, relax, enjoy the drawings and beautiful story... funny characters, cute humour really lovely.

But Grave of Fireflies and Mononoke are really tough ones

^Spirited Away was lovely

Cowboy Bebop was one of my favourites too

I remember seeing a series a long time ago called Serial Experiments: Lain, which I loved at the time. I can't really remember much of it now, but I think it was a bit of a headfuck.. in a good way <_<

Thanks for the warning and good to know which ones are easier viewing . I'll definitely check out all the names listed starting with Spirited and those along with this Serial too. I also forgot another one I wached some of is Hellsing, Pokemon and a little bit of Trigun too. I loved Avatar: The real Avatar Last Airbender, but that's probably Chinese animation. I don't quite remember getting Ponyo at the time, so I might give that another shot eventually.

What's the problem? He waxed and everything. I know I wouldn't have, especially if I knew it wouldn't be appreciated .

Thanks for the pic ! I've always liked how so many picked up on the squirrel thing .

That's really interresting to hear about the weather over there . I hate to taunt you by saying it feels like summer down here right now. The birds are literally singing right now .

^Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey:

brass_monkey_freeze_indicator.jpg

How cold does it get your way, Joe? In July 2006 (I remember as it was during the World Cup) it snowed in Bs.As for the first time in 70 years, not much either - just a light dusting to make the Colombians feel at home - and the city froze in wonderment! Not since I was in Sweden have I been so bloody cold cold.jpg, and those guys know how to deal with it so inside all buildings and on public transport etc. it was always nice and toasty. That's what comes of a social-democratic, high taxation system!

I see it left an impression on you . Is Swedish food pretty good? What kindof food do they serve at the World Cups? It can get pretty cold here. What probably sets some of the southern states apart is how drastically the weather can change in the same day. It can be 80 degrees one day and sleeting the next. This year we broke our own record for most consecutive days over 110 degrees whereas just a year before that there was a brief blizzard and some from the eastern and northern states where its colder said it was the coldest they had ever been. They say we might still have some snow still, but its pretty hot right now at least.

For most of my life I've wondered which one is worse of the joke ignored or the joke not recognized as a joke. It was always hard to determine based on real life because its harder to ignore people in person obviously. That said, based on our members, I prefer the joke not gotten because at least they tried . In any case, these are my favorites I randomly found on my clip board .

Yeah, I definitely prefer not gotten . I meant to ask you what you prefer Baron and anyone else of course . Of course, the thing with not gotten is you almost want to explain it, but then if you do its like pushing the fork deeper in it .

^I think wires may have been crossed here! I wasn't in Sweden for the World Cup, and (no reason why you should know any of this, of course!) it would have done me no good anyway as it was being held in Germany!

I meant I remembered the date as it was during the World Cup, July 2006, when it snowed back home. It was just quite a shock as I'd never seen snow in Bs.As before.

As for Swedish food - I think I've talked of this before, probably on another thread then? I worked as a chef in Stockholm for 6 months. I was in a rather fancy establishment (in the city's opera house) where the emphasis wasn't so much 'local' menus - but, naturally, I learnt a few new native Swedish skills. Meatballs are a big deal, as is fish - herring particularly. There's a lot of aniseed and dill in recipes, plus they love cinnamon buns (nearly as much as I do). They make a great bread called 'limpa' too - which is a by-product of sorts from their beer-brewing. (Y)

I also ate more reindeer than I ever thought I would (i.e any!), and I fell in love with wild strawberries ('smultron') that you could pick off the side of the road - Best. Strawberries. Ever.

I fell in love a fair few other times too - but that's a different conversation!

^I'm with you: "prefer the joke not gotten because at least they tried" - at least you then know that somebody bloody read your effort! It's better to be talked about, even negatively, than simply ignored - which I'm sure someone of a philosophical bent once put down a lot better than me!
