Dog rescues abandoned newborn

By Sarah D. Bunting | Pets – 13 hours ago

baby-abandoned-jpg_170249.jpgThe deserted infant. Photo via Ghana News Agency.A farm dog in Ghana has attained hero status after spending a night protecting an abandoned newborn human. Authorities say the dog, along with its two-week-old charge, was found under a bridge in Winkongo (which is near Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional Capital of Ghana), near the farm where he lives – with the tiny baby snuggled against him.

A search party had been convened to look for the dog, not the baby, when the pooch's worried owner got concerned that her pet hadn't returned home in the evening. Searchers spent most of the night tracking the hound through nearby fields and woods, and came upon the unlikely pair quite some time later; finally locating him under the bridge near the farm he calls home, they were surprised to find the dog curled around a human infant.

Madam Rosemary Azure, Director of Health for the Talensi-Nabdam District, shared the remarkable story with the Ghana News Agency at a ceremony for a different occasion entirely – the launch of two vaccines that will help prevent diarrhea and pneumonia – although it's not impossible that officials will find themselves presiding over a medal presentation to "Hairy Poppins" sometime soon.

The baby himself is in relatively fine fettle after his adventure. His umbilical cord had not been cut, and had gotten infected, but the little one was otherwise unharmed; he's had all his vaccinations, and is currently in the custody of a local health directorate until new, non-bridge arrangements can be made for him. Azure noted that she couldn't say what had led to the baby's desertion by his mother, but speculated that the parents were teenagers, and took the opportunity to caution locals against unprotected sex. Police are investigating.

Any theories on what happened? And are you surprised that a dog took such good care of a human baby? Do your dogs take care of your kids like they're their own offspring? Discuss in the comments!

tousand years of breeding and developing the social connection between dogs and humans is the answer. A bond worth more than gold - if only people would too care for dogs, like dogs care for us...

Thanks for the pics and videos .

I forgot about the kindhearted woman . I think you'd make the ideal judge since you have the niceness but the honesty too . Thats a great article . Its always amazing to see how well some animals take care of babies. That reminds me a lot of the ones that nurse babies of other species too.

Also, I finally got to see The Black Balloon last night. I really rather enjoyed it, but more to the point Gemma Ward was luminous! :wub2: Honestly, she was so adorable in it that I wasn't sure if I just thought she was incredibly attractive, or that I wanted to adopt her and keep her away from all you other brutes with your lascivious eyes!!!

^ She was so good in this movie! Watched it about a year ago... I think Gemma even got some film awards in Australia for this film?

Anyway, I'd love to see her on the stage and I was not interested in seeing this new version of "Great Gatsby", but since Gemma's in... I may want to watch it

Yeah, dogs once again take the lead but I also heard a story that my colleague told me, about a chicken that hatched little ducks - she took care about them as they were her own, but when they started to swim in a little pond, she was helplessly running around it like and not understanding it at all so cute

Oh, and I could not be a judge - most of the recent music says nothing to me

Thanks for the video and the pic. She was definitely cute in that movie . Aside from that and the pirates thing, she was in a horror movie that wasn't too bad too. Since she's not modeling, hopefully she'll get more movies to take on.

Yeah, I'm not surprised to hear that about the ducks and chickens . I always like hanging around ducks myself.

No doubt that BZ is a great forum,I feel that it got even better in this past month

we always say 3 things to get it better, but I'm saying 3 things (of some other things) that already got it better,at least of only my personal opinion

1-new members joined and shared helpful information, good content, and offered help for us.

2-some inactive threads got lots of activity and lots of updates by some new members.

3-the forum browses so faster,no technical problems in it at all,for me I don't see any problem when browsing.

^Well, like our Princess said, Gemma is going to be in this latest version of The Great Gatsby. I was hoping she'd be playing a hefty secondary role - but it's listed on imDb as "languid girl" which doesn't sound massively promising!

Anyway, I'd love to see her on the stage and I was not interested in seeing this new version of "Great Gatsby", but since Gemma's in... I may want to watch it

^Whilst DiCaprio is no Robert Redford in the 'swoon' department(faint_X6CR9G.gif!!!), I'm looking forward to this. I'm a fan of the book anyway - plus I'm a fan of Baz Luhrmann's visuals as a director - and I think he's taking this film to Art Deco nirvana! Tobey Maguire is magical casting as the awkward Nick Carraway too. (Y)

LOL ! Thanks guys . As to the Jenna thing, though its already established that she and I don't see eye to eye on kids shows, she's funny anyway .

Ducks are cute animals, aren´t they? When you lived on the farm, how many animals did you have?

Well, it depends on what you mean by have. In terms of for the sake of going to market, the traditional ones. Aside from that, there's always the random ones you adopt here and there somewhat like the city. I had a picture of some I was going to post in your thread when I found them.

Random Questions Reloaded

Who talks for Butters?

Was Spider Man 2 the last Sequel to be called Part 2?

If humans evolved from monkeys, why are monkeys still around? Will they become human one day?

With the population growing and the Earth staying the same size, how long until we run out of room?

Do sharks get full?

Why do most people think that every gay person is attracted to them?

Why do so many people in the corporate world not wash their hands?

Why are blonde hair, blue eyed Americans called all American girls when those traits come from Scandanavian countries?

That's just to start out .

Why are blonde hair, blue eyed Americans called all American girls when those traits come from Scandanavian countries?

That's just to start out .

To answer few of them:

Who talks for Butters? - who the hell are Butters?

Was Spider Man 2 the last Sequel to be called Part 2? - Spiderman is endless

If humans evolved from monkeys, why are monkeys still around? Will they become human one day? - this is a very common misconception. Humans did not evolve from monkeys - we just have the same ancestor from which the branch of humans and monkeys evolved. To put it simple - they are something like our "brothers" not "parents". What will recent monkeys evolve in nobody knows - evolution is a process of adaptation to the actual environment, consistently developing features that ensure conservation of your species - once you´re not able to adapt to the environment, or there is someone who is much better adapted, adios. Something like a constant fight for life.

It´s also important to know that all the species on this Earth have gone through evolution process - even sharks or turtles who did not change much for thousand of years - but they are recent, logically.

As I see it - evolution process is NOT a path to the "perfect creature" (as humans often think), evolution is an adaptation to your environment in the best way possible. That´s why sharks did not evolve (at least not significantly) in thousand of years - the adaptation to their environment is just perfect for now. There might be minor changes happening which we can´t be aware of because evolution of such huge creatures takes more than thousand of years.

I hope I made it clear

With the population growing and the Earth staying the same size, how long until we run out of room? - We either start to occupy other planets or there are other various possibilities:

1, Another war that would decimate the human population to minimum.

2, Viruses - the more people, the better for them to spread around

3, More crazy people killing each other, more illneses (see point 2)

4, Constantly growing impotency

Do sharks get full? - Full what?

Why do most people think that every gay person is attracted to them? - Simple narcism

Why do so many people in the corporate world not wash their hands? - You mean like, never?

Why are blonde hair, blue eyed Americans called all American girls when those traits come from Scandanavian countries? - It´s the same question as "Why are blonde haired, blue eyed women with BIG tits perceived as "sexbombs"? Because stupidity makes this world spinning I guess.

I feel like people keep saying that the Earth's population is already too big while it looks it's not equal for all the parts, obviously. Yes, there are overpopulated continents, but as far as Central/Eastern Europe is concerned... I read in some magazine that Poland is among 5 countries (being #3 or 4, don't remember) which population is the fastest decreasing one. There is a huge fear about who is going to work for future pensioners, as the population growth is one of the lowest in Europe, in the world even. We don't have a good 'pro-family' policies... And it's not like we could improve the situation with the help of immigrants (for variety of reasons).

Princess, it´s very, very similar here. The average number of kids per one couple is 1,3, which is not good. However, in the gypsy community every woman has more than 6 children (they start to have kids in their 15s. They never worked, never will. Their kids do exactly the same. It´s like bringing up an army of unemployed people that is able to reproduce itself pretty fast). It´s crazy. We have more pensioners than children!

It´s not easy to have a kid these days. There is really nothing you could fall back on this country to support you.

A nation needs around 2.2 children per couple to 'replace the retired', so to speak and create enough new workers. The States has the same problem, but it's nowhere as critical as the demographic problems that's facing Japan and much of europe. Even China has demographic problems.

The main 'hope' to solve the social security crisis is really just three things combined: 1. A baby/immigrant boom 2. the next way of high economic growth 3, an efficient government with growth-supporting institutions with the 'fat' cut out. These are very challenging requirements indeed, as it requires a gradual and successful reorganization of the society and its resources.

In the US, we actually had a governmental budget surplus (but very high consumer debt) at one point in the late 1990s, but it was due to added tax revenues from a once-in a generation Information technology-based/offshoring based growth phase (5% GDP growth for half a decade). The revenues ironed out the deficit until the burst of the tech bubble in 2000. But the Bush administration, in all of its profligacy, ran up deficits. The rest is a sordid story,
