I didn´t know they were such famous by the way. Unicorns are supposed to be the most saint things on earth, with their blood healing (together with their horn that has a power to kill immortals), the most beautiful (and are said to be a little bit superior as well 
) and all of that, a magical creatures. It is said only one lives in one wood, and the wood never dies and the animals in it are some kind of magical too, because the unicorn protects them. That they breed very, very rarely and a place where an unicorn was born is said to be sainted.
And then there´s the virgin thing :brows: no rainbows Baron :persuazn: dwarfs and elfs are supposed to be making those, and there´s always a treasure on one end of it (God knows which one <_< )
I guess people like them because they are like dreams. and people love dreaming
