I may have forgotten the answer, but which do you prefer out of the Korean and Japanese models? I assume Korean since you seem to have made more of their threads, but said you were going to Japan at one point so I figured I'd ask anyway .
^I'd say, in a sheer numbers way, yes - all those lovely Korean Race-Queens! But Nozomi Sasaki is probably my number #1 from that part of the world - and, indeed, not far behind Behati and Lais Navarro in my overall affections.

I had a Japanese girlfriend last year - but she had to go back to Tokyo, and I've been toying with the idea of going there since then. It's tricky though, it's much more expensive then Argentina, and the exchange-rate is a killer...

I wonder - do you know of the 80's band Felt, Michael*? Their sound was somewhat analogous anyway. Listeneing to that new song just reminded me of them...

(This vid takes minimal to a new level, by the way! )

The video did have a distinct 'record label with no budget' feel about it, but I like the song a lot - thanks Baron!

I did a bit of detective work (okay, I went on Wikipedia) and though I hadn't heard of Felt before, I did find a few links that led me into slightly more familiar territory. Apparently, Lawrence went on to front Denim, who actually supported Pulp at my first ever gig - technically, they were the first band I ever saw live. The Television/Tom Verlaine connection piqued my interest still further. Must find out more!

This is it finally I post some pretty pics that not contain unicorns or Gisele Bundchen in Baron´s thread, and what happens? Everything screws up
I uploaded it on another host site:
^Still no good! But take solace, Jennka, that it only appears to be me as Mr. Icon can see it fine...

But it was meant for you

Oh, isn´t she the most precious thing here?

I must say Baron, its thanks to you that I do lists in reverse order now since you asked why people don't that time. I also do them (even on the spot long ones) in reverse order in person which people find surprising for some reason . In the spirit of that...

Top 10 Movies White People are Most Surprised I Haven't Seen

10. Big Daddy - Definitely on purpose. Saw some snot related thing on the commercial.

9. Fatal Attraction

8. Saturday Night Fever - the song is my guilty disco pleasure though.

7. Hangover II - a friend asked me to go, but I had some things to do and never made the effort to go on my own.

6. Blade Runner - sounds interresting enough. To be honest, never even heard of it until I saw it advertised on TV recently.

5. Mission Impossible Movies (by chance)/Other than "Blind Side" (whereby they took a lot of creative liscenece with the story and I didn't get the oscar buzz) every Sandra Bullock movie.

4. Grease Movies

3. There's Something About Mary - Not sure why I "should" have seen this? Not any of my friend's favorites to my knowledge and seeing the guy's stuff caught in his pants on the commercial lowered the prospects of a TV viewing.

2. The Matrix Reloaded and Sequels - I liked the first one, but as kung fu mania was inevitable (every action movie having to include a martial arts expert now) all the Matrix jokes kindof weighed on me a bit, so I distanced myself from it I guess. Though I'm over that now and still haven't seen the other movies by chance.

1. Harry Potter Movies (may have seen some of one) - I've never really thought much about it, but was just content to let it go its way and I go mine withoug a second thought for the most part. I guess I'm just not big into spells as the main course I guess. To me, if a wizard is the star (and I'd prefer that he weren't unless its Merlin), I'd rather it be an old guy with a cool beard rather than a kid with glasses. To be honest, I prefer my epic fantasy either sword oriented or taking place in the middle ages or far in the future actually. That's not to say it can't be done otherwise and I like it of course.

^ Hey Joe, I haven't seen most of these movies too, and I'm white

Although I'd recommend "Fatal Attraction" (Y) finally saw it about a month ago... btw, right after watching it I checked some facts about the movie, and would you guess it was the highest-grossing film of 1987? It made over 300 million dollars. And if you look at highest-grossing movies of this decade... 'single' dramas don't stand a chance, in the past 10 years it was all about blockbusters like HP/POTC/LOTR etc.

Well, none of my persecutors are Polish . It is possible that the over the top ways of expressing 'surprise' of someone not seeing something could be a Western thing? Or it could be universal for all I know. I'm not traveled enough to say . Over here at least, I guess some people (of all races) consider some movies to be such a part of the culture that they go to great legnths to express how shocked they are that you haven't seen something . They literally act like I said I've never seen a bear . I was surprised though at how many people asked "who is Jagger" about the "Moves Like Jagger" song though, but not surprised enough to put much energy into expressing it besides a couple jokes. Thanks for the info though, and I'll try to check that out even though I never see it on the guide. I never thought about the single dramas thing, but I guess the PG-13 adventure is the way to go for the big money now.

Well, I guess this thing is universal somehow... I mean, I don't remember being all surprised with sb not seeing particular movies, though it may have something to do with the fact I have yet to see many ~classics~. I'm much more surprised, in a negative way, at what you've mentioned; I seriously can't believe some people have no idea who Jagger is. I mean, really? REALLY? It's like... one may had not seen any movie with Marilyn Monroe, but you 'expect everyone' to know how she looked like because she's such an icon.

These things are countdowns aren't they? Let's be honest I'm going to give more of a shit who/what your #1 is than your #7 or 8 - so leave it until the end otherwise I'll look at the first one and then just skip the rest.

As for that list - aside from Bladerunner I see no reason why you should have seen any of those! Do you think there's a great distinction between what black and white people look for in a movie (or at least in the US)? I can see major differences in what men and women might want to watch, but I guess I just haven't considered race to be such a factor.

I'm aware, of course, of the lack of major black Hollywood stars. But I've never not wanted to see a movie because the lead wasn't the same ethnicity as me - rather I just wouldn't want to go and see a film with Martin Lawrence as the top-billing 'star' because I think he's shit!!!

And at the risk of upsetting Ophelia, I haven't bothered with any of the Harry Potter films after seeing the first one. :yuckky: And, being half-British, I suppose I should be more inclined to like it? It just seemed a bit 'gay' after I'd seen LOTR (which came out at roughly the same time).

^There's so much wrong with this as a concept! The Rolling Stones are probably my favourite band - and to see them cheapened at all in this piece of shit by this middling band (I can't even begin to go into how crap I think Maroon 5 are on every level), makes me very sad. That people only know Mick Jagger thorugh this turgid dross is indicative of how badly young people's ears are treated these days...

Well, I can understand that .

First Phill Collins and now Martin, where does it end ? Well, I guess for more clarity, I should say its a culture issue rather than a color issue and the difference is the likelihood of expressing shock rather than interrest in said movies. Blacks being the minority (13%) are generally, by contrast shocked to see how universal something of theirs is. I put white on there both since it serves as comedic effect in person and because I got the idea from a white friend's list of movies black people are surprised he's seen.

As to the race factor in choosing movies, I think different things appeal to different cultures to a degree moreso than people being repelled by color. Race and color are such a taboo subjects that people tend to look at it in color terms when the culture terms are more accurate. Black and white Americans are different culturally (overall) the same as African Americans and Nigerians are different and white Americans and Russians who are the same color. White and black Americans are not as different culturally as white Americans or Americans and Russians of course. African American culture is not only independant of white American culture, but African culture as well which makes them unique here I guess. All that factors into tastes, but cultural rather than color. Wayne Brady is black and has far more white fans than black and Paul Wall is white and has more black fans than white . Zoe Saldana (Dominican/Puerto Rican) has brown skin, but black Americans don't relate to her culturally any more than they do a white person.

In choosing movies, some genres are just more crossover than others. Animated movies and action/adventure movies are probably the most crossover genres, whereas comedy is probably the least crossover in the sense that different types of humor seem to appeal more to different groups as you can see looking at the crowds in the standup shows of course. I'd submit that even then the correlation is moreso the style of humor and cultural references people relate to rather than color, but the two just happen to go together at times. Its also seen in that foreign comedy shows, when translated over here are redone altogether with American styled humor. In sports movies (in America), a football movie would have a mixed audience whereas a NASCAR movie probably wouldn't have many blacks in the audience.

Of course, relating culturally is a very small part of relating in a way. There are people I relate to culturally that I can't stand whereas I've had great times with people who barely speak English or Spanish.

I don't know, "culturally" is a tricky thing to quantify - after all, regardless of colour, I'm not from the States so I shouldn't find half the stuff I watch on TV relatable! And I have no idea who either Wayne Brady or Paul Wall are - but I'd happily watch Zoe Saldana drying wallpaper if that counts for anything?

Even though these models are already established and some rich, I wonder if its still a blow to the ego to be rejected at a VS casting. Maybe it depends on the person's own mindset and of course they're already established and the panel is probably mostly gay men (no offense) so maybe that's a little consolation but someone would have to be rejected anyway of course and some seem a little more desperate than others .

I know them all but I think it´s hard to classify the American movies, as there is a whole variety to them, which is great. Like there is American Pie, which I didn´t like, and there is also the Inglorious Basterds or Alice in the Wonderland which I loved. On the other hand, I´ve always found American and e.g. Brittish sense of humour very different. It´s so visible especially in the Red Dwarf series. I love that kind of humour, we call it "the dry English humour".
