My Top 15 Guilty Pleasure Songs

15. Rico Suave by Geraldo Megia - this may possibly be the greasiest song of all time and I kindof feel like I need a shower after hearing it, but I must admit its pretty catchy and makes me laugh a lot on the inside .

14. Edge of Glory by Lady Gaga - Lady Gaga is one of the scarriest celebrities of all time and even despite having a much stronger voice than most others who make music this annoying, her's seems just as bad somehow. That said, I still don't think this song is great and I wouldn't admit it in public, but something about it makes me think of climbing a mountain and looking down triumphantly and gets the blood pumping somehow .

13. Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx- let me say first that I'm a sucker for love songs, but this may be possibly the greatest load of crap declarations I've heard or at least that's the idea I get. 'Whatever you do?' As in, she can screw all your friends, send you the pictures and you'll just be standing at the door twenty years later huh? Cool. I hate that the love song is an endangered species, but such absurd declarations do give me at least a slight consolation. That said, its kindof really catchy and I have a slight soft spot for it anyway.

12. The Climb by Miley Cyrus - whats funny about this song is that usually people that can't sing perform songs that don't push their voice to the limit. This one breaks that rule in an awesome fashion and the lyrics aren't that bad.

11. Venus by Bananarama - The pretention and audacity to tell me that you're my desire infuriates me down to my very core. That combined with the uber-estrogen spirit of it makes it downright annoying to me. All that said, when I hear it once, its hard to get out of my head and even laugh a little. Stupid 80s, grrrr.

10. Can't Fight the Moonlight - LeAnn might have the best voice in today's country in terms of power and range (though I prefer McBride who's almost there and has far and away more emotion). Even despite that, this one isn't a pleasure in the sense of secretly wanting to dance or anything like that. It also, chronologically marks probably the end of my liking of her catalogue. My feelings could be classified as hate technically, but its just so cheesy that its almost like a caricature of a teen movie soundtrack and combined with the fact that a county singer can make a song that reeks so heavily of modern Valley teen romance fantasy sensibilities is strangely funny.

9. Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus - aside from maybe the appeal to the sex drive, the 'learn a new dance' song is probably the most blatantly exploited and successful gimick throughout eras and genres of music. Thankfully for mankind, its much easier to find some hot than it is to come up with a type of dance to sing about, so record companies can't exploit this weakness as much as they'd like. The title is ridiculous and the lyrics make no sense, but its still strangely catchy and inadvertedly funny. Its also funny to think about the fact that he produced a daughter with superior success with a much worse voice.

8. What is Love? by Haddaway - I must admit that this brand of music really grates on me in many ways. My main problem with it isn't even how it sounds even though I hate how most of it sounds. My problem with it is that they blatantly recycle beats so much that it makes me wonder if they're even trying to make music or whether they're just saying, 'lets put a dun dun dun dun dun beat on it and it'll sell'. This song has one of those beats, but something about both the lead and backup singing is incredibly catchy somehow.

7. I Want It That Way by the Backstreet Boys - its easy to look back on the boy band era and laugh just as we're going to look back on this pop-rock/commercial-rock band era and laugh. Actually, I'm laughing already. Anyway, this fad produced a lot of lame, cheesy songs, give lame pop group dated, watered down, more commercial R&B choreography and beats with a little extra synthesizer and mainstream cheese and watch the money roll in thing was at such a high. Despite all that, they sang better than N'Sync and I must admit I've always had and still have some love for this one when it plays in the stores.

6. Hit Me Baby One More Time by Britney Spears - Britney in her prime was a good (though inorganic) dancer and she was one of the child singers who's voice was considerably diminished by puberty and on top of that, her vocals became generally overly processed in the studio. I must admit though that somehow she got something out of that average voice. That combined with the catchiness of the phrasing, guitar and this arrangement make me shamefully dance on the inside .

5. I Touch Myself by the Divinyls - when I first heard this I had no idea what it meant and thought it was funny. When I came of age to know what it meant it only became funnier. Aside from being funny its unfortunately very catchy.

4. Do You Think I'm Sexy by Rod Stewart - I'm not sure which is funnier, a rock artist from rock's golden age selling out to disco or the song itself, but everything about this song is hilarious.

3. Toxic by Britney Spears - I love this song, I can't lie .

2. Raining Men by the Weather Girls - the Weather Girl's signiature song has become immortalized as a gay male club anthem. Even though I actually hate this song for the most part, I find their passion and the 'absolutely soak and wet' part really funny for some reason.

1. I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred - I think the worst part about the bad songs of the present isn't the occassional emphasis of marketing, looks and fads over art. Surely that's the second worse thing. The worst thing is the bad songs of the past were usually funny and no song emphasises this better than this one. I'm honestly not sure Weird Al could have made this one much funnier. I'm also not sure which is more of a burden in life, being 'Too sexy for ones care, too sexy by faaarrrr' or 'so sexy it huuurrrts'. I'm still not even sure whether it was meant as parody or not, but either way I can't hear it without laughing.

^I hate this song with a passion - can't really say why, but I guess it's probably akin to what you said! Now it's in my head - AAARGH! :anger:

OK, think about other songs, think about other songs... Actually I think the most atrocious part of Rod Stewart's song there is it's spelling. Ironically Joe, you spelt it "right" ( ) - but it's proper title is Da Ya Think I'm Sexy? Which is truly inexcusable!!! And yes, I think Right Said Fred were having a laugh - they had another few hits in the UK, including a number 1, and peddled that same aesthetic.

Oh my Joe, I think my guilty pleasures songs list would be very similar I haven't heard/don't remember about 3 of them though. When I was at "Baby One More Time" I thought: I'd replace it with "Toxic" and then I saw it

And, can I challenge you to make the next list? Actually I'm not sure if you haven't made a similar one but... a top 5/10/15/any other number trends followed by girls which you don't find attractive at all. I mean, fashion/style things, like ombre hair or 'sneakers on heels' (ok, maybe you like those, I just wanted to give some examples )

hehehe, Thanks for the intro I'm surprised I haven't heard of her before. Its funny I went ahead and put that "Number One" video in the search afterwards and I was thinking I bet I know which ones Matt likes . You like the one at the check out desk and the Brazilian, don't you ?

LOL @ the spelling, now that is irony for sure ...Sorry for getting that other caught in your head too though . That's good to know they were joking, I guess I should check out some more then .

For some reason I had a feeling you'd relate to the guilty pleasures . As to the fashions, though I usually go off the top of my head, I'd have to think about that one because I have the feeling there are some obvious things I see all the time that may slip my mind. Do you have your list already ? Off the top of my head, I'm not a big fan of nipple, tongue and lip peircings though . I don't mind the extra ones in the ears or the nose as much though I wouldn't say I'm a fan by any means. Some things I don't think of as being woman things, it seems women can find a way to make look good though (such as slacks, men's jersey's and such, well, actually a woman in a too big jersy with no pants is pretty sexy af the expense of sounding base ). One basic thing I have though is I'm of the belief that most women look better with their natural hair color. Ironically though, it seems blondes can maybe pull off a wider range of colors (among natural colors) than some. For example, some are somewhat pale like redheads, so they can sometimes pull off red if its done well whereas most redheads look like fools with blonde. They can also pull off brown and black whereas some with brown hair either go too far or don't get their roots touched up enough. I'm sure a good stylist can makeup for a lot of course. When it comes to natural colors (blonde, red, brown and black), I generally prefer natural though. That said, I'm all for all forms of unnatural (that is colors that don't occur naturally in anyone) colors .

I just have to put this one out there at least before I get to the 'favorites'.

I used to think there wasn't anything much more annoying in the arena of talking about looks than a girl dictating to a guy what's hot and what he should like. That can be annoying, but when asked to join a couple 'men's' sites and checking out some in general, I made an interresting discovery. As hard as this is to admit, I think a looks oriented site is actually better (for my taste anyway) for being female dominated . Here's why, though the internet is a man's world, it would be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl...

Worst Things About 'Men's' (Looks Oriented) Forums

10. A pic that's really a hit will be quoted six or more times on the same page. Once is one thing, twice for me is kindof pushing it, but sometimes it will go on for three or more pages down the line.

9. Part of what fuels the too much quoting of the same pic on the same page is the next problem and that's the fact that the contributor to talker ratio is highly in favor of the talker.

8. If quoting the same pic over and over again on the same page isn't enough, they post really big, slow gifs as a response to the pic that's been posted in half the posts on the page or last few pages. If posting the big, slow gif isn't enough, they're usually some annoying crap like a baby saying 'I came' or something. Some of the gifs are funny I'll admit, but nothing's funny when the same pic is milked for three pages.

7. Boobs hanging to the navals are celebrated there - I like curves, but I have to side with the women on this one

6. Blatantly fake, super rock hard boobs to the navals are celebrated there

5. Take a moment to think of the worst things you can possibly imagine...You've just thought of a group of avatars on a 'men's' forum.

4. Countdowns to famous underage girl's birthdays. This one really grates on me to no end and on so many levels. The most obvious level is its creepy. On the other hand, you're obviously into her now, so what will be different then? Also, its creepy.

3. If you don't like what they like, you're not only wrong (like on a female forum) but gay too

2. The arguments are not only really stupid, but can go on for pages and pages - Women are said to have 'catty' arguments, but the most annoying argument on a female forum is just standard fare on a 'men's forum'.

1. Insecure males tend to try to act and talk tough among other things to overcompensate to be what they wish they were in real life. Sure some women do it to, but the men take it to another level. Are women insecure too? Yes, but they still don't overcompensate online to the scale that men do and that's very telling. In the case of the greatest tools, they know they'd get beat up, fired or even killed in real life for being the know it all, stupid, sexist, annoying, overly opinionated tool they wish they could be, so they use the internet to live it out and that's far worse than telling you what model you should like.

Sorry guys ...

Yeah, that song is pretty tough to put down and by men's looks oriented forums I just meant forums like BZ with an emphasis on pics of female models (generally more glamour than fashion), actresses, singers and the like.

As a side note though, those boobs look like they hurt and getting so much bigger the farther they do down, you'd think they'd fall off if she took her bra off . Her stomach is nice though .

Do men generally like more fashion or glamour models?

By nature, glamour is much more concerned with appealing to the average man than fashion is. I can't speak for all countries, but for America and Mexico, I'd wager a resounding, definite yes for glamour models over high fashion models as a whole and celebs over any kind of model group.

For glamour vs. commercial models on the other hand, its hard to compare because glamour modeling is so much more broad and diverse (most countries and even regions of some countries have their own brand of it). Glamour has more genres than I can keep up with. Its also complicated to compare commercial to glamour because many commercial models do some glamour and some glamour models do some fashion. The difference isn't as much about how the women look as the definitions of the job. What distinguishes glamour in the purest sense is that the woman is the total focus of the shoots without regard for the clothes or designers. For example, all Maxim modeling is glamour even if Sasha P were doing it because the woman is 100% of the emphasis and if that woman above were advertising that brand of bra it would be fashion. In other words, the terms are independant variables opposed to there being a definitive look. In the 90s, they were probably closer in looks because the average fashion model was probably a dress size 6-8 and that went down to probably 2-4 at some point whereas glamour model's size stayed the same. Also, neither as a whole are household names anymore, so its hard to even theorize a general consensus.

Men as a whole also seem highly prone to obsess over what's in their face in the mainstream probably even more than women. For example, if Nina Angdal were in Transformers 4, she'd become an overnight sensation on the male forums. On fashion forums getting a lot of work or being in VS or SI seems to create overnight fandom, but it seems more shortlived by comparisson. Not that they represent the men of the world in general, but on all of the male dominated versions of sites like this, glamour models and celebs both are much more popular than fashion models. Few if any high fashion models have threads and the most popular fashion models there are generally the likes of Bar, Marisa, Kate, Tyra ect. who are more the size of glamour models. Models who date famous actors or are in popular movies become suddenly popular too. They seem very celeb crazy over there too as even Snooki, Amanda Bynes and Miley Cyrus have strong followings over there which leads me to believe that if some of the fashion models they don't know were on a reality show instead they'd be crazy about them too .
